Apparently, contestants for Miss USA 2011 were asked: Should math be taught in schools?
Here’s how they answered. I’d like to thank my very good friend Rita for e-mailing this video to me. Rita was sent the video by her friend Leo.
UPDATE: It has been brought to my attention that the video below was a parody of questions often asked Miss USA. My mistake for thinking it was true.
But the second video is real.
Enjoy both.
Then here’s another video of a contestant being asked why one out of five Americans can’t locate the US on the world map. Here’s how Miss South Carolina answered:
My only comment is – Gawd, they’re all purty.

We appreciate your decision to retain this post. But it would be better if you at least update the blog entry and put an editor/blogger’s note saying something like, “Further verification revealed that the first video was a parody and not true etc… My aplogies.”
Something to that effect, cause without it, others (who might not bother reading this comments section) could still be victimized by this erroneous blog post. And yes, it would be a lesson learned on your part, that’s already taken care of, but still we think you owe your reader’s an apology.
:-)

This post certainly lowers the journalistic standards of this site. It is suggested this post be removed as this implies bad research and denigrates the credibility of Raissa Robles

No I won’t remove this.
This is to remind me not to write a post while hurrying to beat a deadline for my newspaper.
My mistake.

It is quite a surprise for me to see this and I am not so sure if there is any truth to it. I have been around places of California and amazed to see a lot of youngsters so well versed in Science and Math as well as their History and Geography. If ever there are those that were seen acting so naive on television shows like the Leno shows, it is only because they only show what could make people laugh rather than the real statistics.
As for Philippine Education being bad is not in the sense that it produces bad students. What is actually bad about it is that our system of teachings in general are normally geared towards getting better at being modern slaves of progressive nations so that many could bring fortune back home instead of encouraging students to be more creative in having our nation stand on its own two feet.

please check your facts first… then check it again.. before posting them. Let’s be responsible journalists, do our assignments, and not be gullible enough to easily spread anything that presents itself at your doorstep.

FYI, the first video is a parody ;-) Look it up on the net :-)
The second video, however, is real.

“Should evolution be taught to schools?”
by denigrating ppl – when it should be the system that deserves to be mocked – by making ourselves feel better usually doesnt work
and the 2nd video is Ms Teen USA and not Ms USA.
give her a break, how many of us could sashay in front of tons of people when we were 18yrs old & below – and asked WHY many ppl in the world cant locate the PH in the world map.
