Intro by Raïssa Robles

GMA - JIM PAREDES - APOOne of the unique features of the struggle against the Marcos dictatorship was the use of humor as a political weapon. The Marcoses simply hated being laughed at. And concerts of the Apo Hiking Society were famous for poking fun at the powers-that-be through songs and jokes.

Yesterday, out of the blue, Jim Paredes of the Apo Hiking Society posted some lyrics he had made to be sung to some of the stanzas of Bohemian Rhapsody. I believe the lyrics pertain to the Chorus portion of the Rhapsody.  :)

The lyrics reminded me of the playful way Filipinos used to express their anger while living in the shadow of the repressive Marcos dictatorship.

I asked him whether I could share his lyrics with you all and he agreed. Here they are below:

Bohemian GMA Rhapsody

[Sung to the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody]
[Lyrics by Jim Paredes]

I see a little woman ex President

GMA GMA will she do an eskapo

Cases have been piling, very very frightening NGII!

Mike Arroro, Mike Arroyo, Mike Arroyo wants to go!

Mag-eskapo-o-o-o-

Gloria’s a bad girl nobody loves her

She’s just a big crook from a rich family

Claims to be sick and wants to leave the country

Easy come, easy go will they let her go

Del Lima NO, we should not let her go

Let her go

Del Lima NO, we should not let her go

Let her go

Del Lima NO, we should not let her go

Hold order mo, we should not let her go, hold order mo, we should not let her

Go go go go go go go

Maam De Lima the Arroyos are planning to eskapo

Mag-a-asylum daw sila at magtatago—tago—tagoooooo!

Instrumental

GMA SINGS:

So you think you can stop me from going abroad?

Tignan natin ang sasabihin ng Supreme Court

Oh, baby.. Manuod kayo baby

Just gotta get out, just gotta get right out of here…

Instrumental

Justice really matters, anyone can see

Justice really matters to me

Sorry guys, he hasn’t recorded singing these lyrics yet.

But you can read more of Jim Paredes’ writings by clicking here.

If you’re not familiar with the song, you can listen to Freddie Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody below.

Very cheap way of cheating.

    “I AM SORRY…”

Tama ba?

Hey James, if Jim truly did what you said he did, then pareho kami na naloko ni GMA. We all knew she was matalino and educada…but we didnt know she and Mike were very garapal, corrupt, makapal muks, magnanakaw.
JimP, paborito ka Bohemian R at kinanata ko gamit lyrics mo….ang galing pare…you should sing it yourself? Kudos (as always) to you.

Though sometimes, it has a borderline too.. Gustuhin ko mang maawa kay gma, I dont think that I’ll fall to her stunts. What’s with the rush? Bat nagmamadaling umalis ng Pinas? Wala pang decision nakapag book na? Excited? :-) As much I would like to give in to the legalities being presented by the arroyo camp, it seems that they also forgot the sensitivity of this case. They’re dealing of numerous misdealings and cases that the’ll be facing soon.

To Justice De Lima, Kudos to you!

It would be wonderful to see if there is really something good that Cong. Arroyo and her family has done for the country. From where I am sitting, I didn’t feel or see anything. She was supposed to help usher in change when Erap stepped down but what she, Mike, Mikey, Datu, and the rest of her family did was they created their own means to plunder the country’s riches using the legal system as their main ally.

Congrats Ms. Raissa. Sir Jim, superbly done. God bless.

    Hello Miss Raissa Robles

I love Jim Paredes’ GMA Bohemian Rhapsody. A year ago when Gloria won a seat in Congress, I made “Don’t Cry for me Pilipinas” Gloria’s version. I revised it a bit this month. It is in my blog, The Chair

    http://dpchair.blogspot.com/2011/11/dont-cry-for-me-pilipinas-gloria.html

Is it all right if I create a link to your blog in my own site so my readers can easily go to your blog and read your insightful articles? Thanks so much.

That’s Google new interface. I have nothing to do with it. I’m not good with computer as well. :-) Thanks so much and more power to you.

Off topic but relevant to you as the newsman!

    Tuflo from todays inquirer

” The President was asked recently whether he
loved to play the PSP [play station, portable], a
    craze among kids.
P- Noy considered the question from a newsman
    irrelevant.
But a member of the Kapisanan ng Brodkaster
ng Pilipinas, who attended a KBP convention in
Clark recently, said she saw the President “busy
at work” while awaiting his turn to speak before
    KBP delegates.
P- Noy was playing the PSP, unmindful of the
    crowd in front of him.”

    • Rallie F. Cruz says

      November 15, 2011 at 11:39 PM

Nona, (I hope you won’t mind me calling you like a long time friend)
What I may think of it also is that playing PSP may be his outlet to let go of some anxiety or nervousness in front of a delegation known to throw any question that may put him off guard.

      • RamonaBulbulugan says

        November 16, 2011 at 7:11 PM

Toys for tha big boys naman ang PSP, basta sana call of duty ang nilalaro ni PNOY at hindi Ben10, hehe

    • Danny Jimenez says

      January 15, 2012 at 11:11 AM

My golly you guys. I cant believe that there are a lot of pinoys who support corruption. Grabe kayo. I could not comprehend why you are not supportive of PNoy’s cause.
I dont think you guys are paying taxes. 30% is what is deducted from me by the BIR.

Should people’s perspective about the alleged crime of FPGMA and the general consensus of the public prevail over the existing laws..?

Like many of you, in my heart and mind I would like FPGMA to stay here until she is cleared of what’s thrown against her. . . I agree to WLO although according to what I have read it is violating some laws. . . And I really think it is… So who’s interese should prevail in this case..? The interest of the Public which may violate the law or the interest of upholding the law…

No one should be above the law… The law applies to all or none at all…

ergo, the law to allow GMA to leave the country should not be applied to her, as she did not apply the same law to Martirizar during her time.

GMA is not 2nd to Marcos. by golly, she outranked the late strongman by thousand ranks. GMA is 1st! when it comes to corruption. Her nine years stay far outrobbed the Philippines compared to Marcos’ alsmost 20 years in power.

        November 15, 2011 at 10:51 AM

Who says we are judging GMA? Exposing her evil ways is not necessarily judging, it is more of showing the people how much the nation have been plundered and how our laws have been circumvented to get away with it.
That is not judging because GMA and her cohorts are still being protected by our laws for allowing to have her own battery of lawyers to prove us wrong or to prove her right.
And why will be judged?
