Dear Senator Sotto,

When I learned that you copied from others without attribution

Not once,

Not twice,

But thrice.

All I could think of was this

senator

Of course, as my hubby Alan later told me –

You can very well say – IT’S NOT PLAGIARISM because Senator Robert F. Kennedy is dead.

Thank you for making me laugh on this rather stressful day.

Of course the last laugh is on Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile because this is happening under his watch on his last term . And he’s tolerating it.

Except during the time of Senate President Jose Avelino who to this day is remembered for his famous “What are we in power for” speech,  never  in the history of the Philippine Senate  has this body been so debased as now.

You will also be long remembered for saying – “walang krimen (na) plagiarism sa Pilipinas.”

Do you think your lolo, Senator Vicente Sotto, is now spinning in his grave? Lolo authored  the Press Freedom Law and now his grandson  recently threatened to limit the freedom of expression of his cyber-critics.

Way to go, Senator.

UPDATE AS OF 10:21 pm, Sept. 5, 2012

A commenter named Evenstarwen   thought of a new word inspired by  Senator Vicente Sotto III:

senator

Hi, Raissa. I took the liberty of lifting or borrowing portions from your post here to write my blog, with attribution, of course, to avoid being accused of engaging in “sottonism/sottoism”, err, plagiarism. Hope you won’t mind. Here’s the link:

Thanks, and more power! We’re behind you in your crusade.

Thanks, Raissa. Just one query. I’m currently researching on a topic which is connected with the Capt. Diosdado Junsay case, the PC officer who was tortured in the late 1940s by the armed men of Gov. Rafael Lacson. In my research online, I came across a book entitled “To Fight Without End: The Story Of A Misunderstood President” which happened to be authored no less than by you. In that book, the Junsay case was mentioned. My query is, what happened to that case? Were the men who tortured Junsay ever convicted? Additional query is, would you know if a congressional investigation was conducted on the case, and if so, what was the result? I’d appreciate it if you could provide some info on this. This will surely help me in my research. (In the Google result, only a snippet view of the book is available, I was not able to get the info that I need.) Thanks again.

Hi, again, Raissa. Sorry if my earlier message sounded more like a command. I guess, if you just have the time to attend to it, it’ll be my privilege. I know you’re a busy person. It’s OK too if you won’t be able to respond to my query, I’d understand. But if you will address it, I’d be very much thankful. Thanks again, and more power.

I’ll take a look at my book and see.

    Sotto ever trying hard…

Tito Sotto should stop trying to sound and look like a senator in the mold of the senators of the 1950s. The more he tries, the more he reinforces his image as the intellectually challenged student of Wanbol University, the fictional school in the TV variety show Iskul Bukol.

    @CPMers

    Finally, ‘cyberbullied’ Sotto’s awaited law
    http://www.rappler.com/nation/12473-finally,-cyberbullied-sotto-s-awaited-law

President Benigno Aquino III has signed the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 or Republic Act 10175, the Palace announced on Saturday, September 15.

The new law doesn’t explicitly ban cyberbullying, but prohibits online libel, a crime that involves defamation as defined by Article 355 or the Revised Penal Code. It also punishes any person “who willfully abets or aids” in committing this offense.

Meanwhile, the new Cybercrime Law bans other cybercrimes, such as the following:

cybersex, or “the willful engagement, maintenance, control, or operation, directly or indirectly, of any lascivious exhibition of sexual organs or sexual activity, with the aid of a computer system, for favor or consideration:

child pornography, as defined in the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009

illegal access, or “access to the whole or any part of a computer system without right”

    identity theft

    password theft

cybersquatting, or “the acquisition of a domain name over the internet, in bad faith to profit, mislead, destro reputation, and deprive others from registering the same, subject to certain conditions

    computer-related forgery

Penalties include imprisonment and fines ranging from P50,000 to P1-M, depending on the offense.

thanks raisa for this…I wonder if the SENATE is the new version of ISKUL BUKOL …. it is obvious Senator Sotto has different meaning and on his head are all iskul bukol crooked words. He is making our Senate a laughing institution with just one word that the definition is twisted. I like that update as of September 5…the commenter is a genius, very creative, i love it and he makes my day. I like to see Manong Enrile castigates his crooked student…je je je….laughing is good for our soul but being in the Senate i believe this Senator should always be careful in every word they present. I think Senator Sotto should be humble enough to accept his interpretation is wrong and he is twisting in every way he can, thus i felt he is in his ISKUL BUKOL DAYS. I say thumbs up for the opinion of Senator Miriam Santiago and Senator Sotto should listen to her if he does not want our opinion. Chao from Oz.

#johnny, tristanism,Andrew, Leona, etc., etc…….the interchange of views has been very lively. Maybe we ought to give it a little rest. RR is about to come out with her next piece. Besides, it could become somewhat emotional and tends to be messy. Also, Miriam will likewise attempt to get to the bottom. Maybe a credible timeline and sequencing will emerge. Right now what we know from what we read are: 1) Mrs. Robredo confirms that she requested Sec. De Lima
for help in “securing” the papers/documents/properties of Jesse. 2) Sec. De Lima contacts the President and makes that recommendation. 3) the President gives out instructions pursuant to Sec. De Lima’s recommendation which is pursuant to and in agreement with Mrs. Robredo’s request. Was there substantial permission from the owner? A credible timeline ought to be able to establish the sequencing.
btw…tristanism…I have not had the pleasure of hearing the phrase “minayoyo nga sangkay” in decades!!! Damo nga kinasingkasing nga salamat…..

I do not know Rico Puno. I have never met him. But I do not like him! Is that fair? What I know about him is all through media. I do not like him because of my perception that his presence in government and around PNoy is not conducive to “Daang Matuwid.”

      • Johnny Lin says

        September 10, 2012 at 10:29 PM

        @tomas Gomez

I dont know Puno either so I dont have reasons to dislike him. But if I perceived he was doing something wrong I would comment on that. My principle is true with Pres Aquino even if I support his daan matuwid credo. I intiated the discussion about Puno in this section based on his visit to the Robredo condo without any consent of Mrs. Robredo, further complicated by Pres Aquino statement that” the visit to Puno to secure papers was fine with him”.

Others commented on other things, which are their opinions but I never deviated on my initial position and responded only on comments directed to me.

I am a freelancer. If it is wrong in my opinion, I would voice it out whether it involves pres Aquino or his critics or detractors.

If Puno is “really” a friend of PNoy, i would like to see “The Puno Flies” rather than “The Puno Files”.
Puno is sooooooo silent, just like after the hostage taking fiasco.
      Shadow of guilt?

All I can sing at present…

    So many questions
But the answers are so few
    All I really know is…

that there are 25 or so years of “very close” friendship P.Noy and Puno have…

    Off-topic:
Rico Puno is becoming the “Mike Arroyo” of PNoy. Every time there’s a controversy about both personalities, everybody except themselves are the ones defending them. You won’t hear any explanation from both of them, or at least by being accessible to media. Both have shadowy characters too. Both of them have the same hobby too – deal-making in PNP! Helicopters for Mike, guns for Rico!

      just to add…

Is Puno on an early Easter-Egg Hunt?

Me-2 is bewitched, bothered and bewildered, why of all people Pnoy entrusted the safekeeping of very sensitive personal & official documents (at DILG or at the condo) to Puno.

Is Pnoy totally clueless about the long running DILG intramurals?
Is Pnoy all-in and/or all-out on Puno, that he authorized his Easter Egghunt without thinking?
Did late Jesse knew and have pictures of those fragile colorful eggs that only Puno can lay his hands on, while the cops secure the outside?

To say it bluntly, …Pnoy confirmed (without equivocation or purpose of evasion), that he ordered Puno (the rabbit) to guard the bunch of carrots quickly, to ensure it doesn’t turn into pumpkin when the clock strikes 12. This is one lucky rabbit who will have his carrots/eggs and eat it too….

In the latest news, I hope Puno’s firing/re-assignment was not just to extinguish the fire. The entire nation is entitled to see the goods on Puno, or those easter eggs he was so desperately trying to secure (or destroy) at the DILG, Napolcom and at the residence….for the sake of matuwid na daan….or this caravan will hit a brick wall.

The sequence of events simply doesn’t make sense, and the whole country is entitled to know.

Side note: Even if Puno managed to clean out DILG and Napolcom offices, chances are Leni Robredo is privy to those confidential information too. Will she then be offered a foreign posting with the kids, and/or suddenly awarded a fellowship/post-grad studies at Harvard, or needs to go abroad due to perhaps some risks to their safety?

Much much better than the previous management but same same in dealings with illegal gamblings like HUETING .So I say to the Bishops take the donations offered by the gambling lords so that come election time ” baka kakaunti na ang matira sa mga kandidatong namimili ng boto “
