I don’t belong to the poor families, SM salesladies or work as maid abroad. When I’m in pinas, I never speak english to SM salesladies, I’m not that snooty. In fact just this Christmas time, I gave tinned corned beef, hotdog, cheese, bread, powdered milk, coffee, etc to about 25 poor families to give them a little happiness. It’s my way of saying thank you to our Lord for the graces and blessings I receive from Him.
If you don’t consider yourself a Filipino, and here you are in the Philippines – your country host providing your needs, human and natural resources – personally attacking the government, the Philippine Media, insulting and denigrating the look (personal appearance) of the Filipinos, the poorness of the people and thrashing the culture right and left, I would say you are an undesirable alien, a very ungrateful alien. If you have a mission of effecting changes to the minds of the Filipinos, you could do so in a positive way- more constructive way.Your rubbing some of us the wrong way, as such, your mission to effect changes would be fruitless. Be diplomatic and polite. Move on to whatever life has dealt with you – bitterly or sweetly. You are the achitect of your life, therefore, the solid foundation largely depends on you. Before changing the minds of the Filipinos in pinas, change your frame of mind first, your outlook to something positive to make people more responsive to you.

Good point there letlet about Mariano, though somehow, I could sense a soft spot in him.
Your deeds of sharing your blessings is commendable…for sure you’ll be blessed more.

People like TMDG/FBRY a.k.a. MRP will never change (according to Javert). Both are certified Filipino haters and carry prominent names well known for amassing unexplained wealth in the Philippines. By the way, TMDG is presently in the USA and is under electronic detention like her mother, courtesy of the Filipino and US authorities. His partner FBGY lives with him. In 2006 FBGY, a phenomenal blogger wrote why, what and how he hated Filipinos so much. He said he lived in their modest house in Muntinlupa before by force instead of choice. Both are smart. But Johnny Lin, Victin Luz and the CPMers are smarter.

I AM A DESIRABLE ALIEN. Girls love me becuase of my money and my looks. And I speak very goot englischtzes that I do not flaunt at Starbucks. Let us just say I am a ILLIGTIMATE FILIPINO.
An ELLGETIMATE FILIPINOS is a Filipino born to un-weeded parents because my parents were poor. I was borned in the manger. Therefore, no birth ceritificate for authentication. I cannot be baptized because the church asked for birth certificate. I do not exist in NCSO becuse I cannot present birth ceritificate nor baptismal certificate. THEREFORE, I am A ….. rum roll …. plez ….. trumpet in the backstand ….. SILENCE …. whisper …. I AM AN ILLIGITIMATE FILIPINO.
I was smuggled to the U.S. by an American Pilot. I pledged alligiance to Amrican Flag. Never ever applied for dual citizenship to the Philippines.
I BECAME RICH. FAMOUS. WEALTHY. SPEAK GOOT ENGLISCHTZES. DO NOT EAT ADOBO. YOUNG AND GORGEOUS. Now, Filipinos claim me as a Filipino when I AM A PROUD AMERICAN just like Jessica SAnchez a PROUD LATINA.
Me? UNDESIRABLE ALIEN ? No !!!! YOU ARE MISTAKEN ALONG WITH my greatest fan and follower @Rene-Ipil.
FILIPINOS ARE UNDESERIABLE FILIPINOS. They they throw trash wherever they can. They pee wherever they can. Lookit the traffic in Metro Manila. The traffic is the reflection of FILIPNO ATTITUDE AND CHARACTER. Lookit the services Philippine Government promotes child neglect leaving them in the streets of Tondo naked and hungry and no tin-roof over their head.
FILIPINOS ARE ALSO NATIONAL SECURITY RISKS ON TOP OF BEING UNDESIRABLE. They tsismis a lot. They backstop. They squabble on very little things. Then they go to church and pray for forgiveness.
JosephIvo says
Why don’t Filipinos accept their skin color (but also many other peoples)?
Why is form always more important than content (and thus we hate Mariano)?
Why are so many Catholics only behaving as Catholics, but believing in many more ghosts and rituals than the ones listed in the bible (except for the Golden Calf)?
Why do all Filipinos dream from a job abroad?
Why policemen take confiscated dangerous fireworks home?
Why is one caste so rude to another (lower) caste?
Why is it that the sing “park facing the wall” seems to be an invitation to do the opposite in the Philippines and not for the same Filipino abroad?
This is what Mariano is struggling with. They are all relevant questions, worthy to think about and debate. They give answers to the core of one’s values. Understanding who one really is can be uncomfortable and avoiding them by shooting the messenger doesn’t show courage.
Alan says
(1) Why do certain commenters speak in sweeping generalities (“all Filipinos” — really?) , as if their parochial views are universal verities?
(2) Why do these limited commenters act as if the problems besetting this country are peculiar to this country alone and not faced by, say, the rest of the world?
(3) Why do these tiresome commenters act as if the things they say are precious, previously unheard of and therefore worth paying attention to?
(4) Why do these tedious commenters fail to consider that they aren’t the only ones chosen by the Universe to see the problems of the Philippines?
(5) Why do these wearisome commenters not realize that in the sanctimonious, shallow and cliched manner they speak they themselves encapsulate the very same negative qualities they profess to see in every Filipino?
This is what I’m struggling with. And now let us sit back and wait for the inevitable story of the Filipino crabs
Joe America says
A generality aligned with our thinking is “incisive synthesis”, a generality misaligned with our thinking is a stupid argument.
Alan says
a generality is a generality — something like “all Americans are rednecks”
Joe America says
That isn’t a generality, it is a lie.
Alan says
QED
Joe America says
I just did a blog on Filipino culture. To avoid the charge of “biased” or “unfair generalizations” or even “racist”, I went to quoting Professor Felipe De Leon, former head of Humanities at UP. All of his statements were generalities. But they are founded on years of study and thinking and debate. He uses the generalities (incisive synthesis in my eyes) to generate action steps to develop more strenth in Philippine economic productivity.
This notion that generalities are bad is a generality. I think too many facts, aligned as lies, are bad. Keen synthesis is the way we move forward.
Alan says
Do these synthesized generalities include
(1) “Why don’t Filipinos accept their skin color?” ?
(2) “Why do all Filipinos dream from a job abroad”?
Because these generalities don’t speak for me, and I rather fancy that I am a Filipino.
One academician does not a synthesis make. Have you read Mercado’s books on Filipino psychology? Anthropology and history books? Etc?
Joe America says
He addresses those issues, yes, but not in those exact terms. His main point is that years of colonialization has led to a willingness to accept instructions and a shortfall in energies devoted to innovation. He touches on the OFW situation and insecurities that drive some acts.
I agree that academicians can be as wrong as the next guy. I have not read Mercado. Here’s the De Leon article I quoted.
But I think you have to be careful in denying the usefulness of generalizations. You seem to be saying that following facts in a reactive way is better than generalizing and guessing and risk-taking to arrive at new ways of doing things.
This is really very critical because it is at the edge of the cultural difference between western and Filipino cultures, one generalizes and takes risks, and the other does not. One innovates, the other does not. (That is a generalization with lots of exceptions, you possibly being among them.)
Joe America says
oops missing link: ncca.gov.ph/about-culture-and-arts/articles-on-c-n-a/article.php?subcat=13&i=378
Alan says
I’m not taking exception to generalities in principle, I’m taking exception to the generalities in the original post. There is a world of difference between a generality based on study and one based on prejudice. I have quite a few things to say about my country — and political culture and history in particular, because these are the things I’ve been writing on and interviewing / researching about for decades, and I certainly agree with you about the “years of colonization” (and the accompanying denigration coming from colonial masters) — though I’d go back farther than that to the pre-Hispanic datu leadership/patronage system.
Alan says
almost forgot, for truly cutting generalities that have stood the test of time, there are Rizal’s novels. The characters and practices he describes there still exist
Joe America says
Okay, good, we are aligned then.
Generalities based on prejudice can indeed be unfair and punitive. I’m always fascinated with how other people come to their beliefs when those beliefs seem so unconventional or dysfunctional to us. Yet rational to the person holding them. My parents were racist for the better part of their lives, as were (are?) many Americans. Yet I know for a fact that my parents were among the most honorable of people. I think that somehow we have to reconcile acts with the whole of the character to explain the dysfunctional part, and the only way to do that is with a measure of understanding and even respect.

Johnny @ 70.1 and Victin @ 67
Johnny got the profile of Mariano accurately. Mariano is a product of a conjugal corruption in the Philippine government and extended to USA by his high profile father in conspiracy with the wife and all their children. In fact, the whole family is in trouble, a huge problem about property and liberty. His father lost his high and juicy position in the government as well as his liberty. The others are on temporary liberty in the USA. He hated Rappler so much because it exposed a scheme in 2011 that would have terminated their agony and torment, which started in 2005, both in the Philippines and USA. Of course Rappler is published by a distinguished and multi-awarded U.P. alumna, and many prominent journalists are U.P. alumni. In addition, a known lawyer from the U.P. Law Center has been the nemesis of Mariano’s father.
Victin confirmed Johnny’s findings. In fact, it was Victin’s take that sealed Mariano’s coffin. Victin rightly analyzed that Mariano’s idol is Binay. Indeed, Binay surreptitiously knocked at heaven’s door to help Mariano’s father. Rappler and the U.P. “mafia” exposed that Binay (mis)adventure to the public. And the rest is history.
Let’s add Johnny’s and Victin’s take and we get the whole picture. BTW in 2010 Mariano worked for an openly gay fashion designer in New York. In one of his pictures, I saw him wearing an ankle bracelet used for monitoring his whereabouts.
Mariano Renato Pacifico says
hic! hic! hic! U.P. journalism graduates applying in New York Times is now floor manager. The other one was never called in for interview after they checked his reportage in Philippines. Chicago Tribune never have had U.P. journalists. But they do have American-born high-school drop=-out journalists.
If U.P. journalists cannot make it to metro dailys in America I just wonder what Rene-Ipil is harking about ?
Hey, yo, Rene-Ipil, there are thousands and hundreds of thousands graduate from U.P. Ateneo and la Salle THE IVY-SCHOOL OF THE PHILIPPINS. Now lookit where the Philippines is right now compared to Vietnam and Burma and Laos ? Never mind South Korea and Japan and Taiwan and China and Indonesia because hang-gang kuming-king lang ang Philippines.
Alan says
You have any names to go with the claims, or are you making it up? not that we’d be surprised
Mariano Renato Pacifico says
He! he! he! You are asking question like you are not media. PRIVACY. Non-Disclosure. That is what we do in America. DUH ! Get REal !
Alan says
In other words, you’re making it up. Got it
Mariano Renato Pacifico says
hey, yo, Rene-Ipil, give it up man. To make it easy for you, Just look at the Philippines catsup industry ….. compared to Thailand …..
Filipino grocery stores in America stock-up coco juice maide in Thailand. NOthing from the Philippines. 80% of their products are made in South Korea and Thailand and Vietnamese. Where is your great Philippines ?
c’mon, man, get real…. openyour eyes ….. go shop at SM …. see where their products are maide …… SO YOU’LLKNOW THAT I AM RIGHT DESPITE OF MY WRONG ENGLSICHTZES.
Lookit POEA statistics where they are sending these Filipnos the cause of brain-drain …. Stop tulog-in-pansitan .
I take Filipinos to school. I am not even a bus driver.
I THINK, THEREFORE, I AM NOT FILIPINO.
Mariano Renato Pacifico says
@letlet I truly understand your concern. But I take issue of your impression that I “trample the dignity and the humanness of the poor people, who are so downtrodden and very unfortunate economically and educationally”. I am pro-poor. Less fortunate Filipinos struggle with spoken and written English. They are awed by fortunate Filipinos that can write and speak English well, therefore, educated, therefore, what they write must be correct. I have seen snotty English-snobs speak English to SM salesgirls when these supposedly “educated” Filipinos know very well that they do not have facility for English language.
I am pro-poor. Poor Filipinos are brown and dark brown because of selling peanuts by the sidewalk whereas the can-afford wanted to be more white slathering their skin with industrial-strength Eskinol Skin Whitening Lotion with Papaya extract popping Glutathione to no end. They line up before Vicky Belo so they cannot look like the traditional Filipino looks: punk’d flat squat flared nose crawling on brown faces.
I blame these on Philippine Media’s promotion of non-Filipino looking beauty contestants. These Philippine Media are teeming graduates from Ateneo, la Salle and U.P. They say they are for the poor but actually they are promoting the second classness of REAL FILIPINOS by covering head over heels non-Filipino looking beauty contestants. These so called Elite school graduates also promoted Manny Pacquiao as their hero and poor kariton educator got ignored in passing. These Philippine Media promotes mediocrity. They are against your skin color. They are against the looks of your face because it is subpar to what they consider as beauty. They are against you because of your atrocious spoken English.
In the Philippines English is measure of intelligence. But they are only goot in English. I’m showing to poor Filipinos that despite my wrong syntax and spelling I still have the courage to bring out my opinion. Regardless they attack my syntaxes I still plod along ignoring those ridiculing my English. I wanted them to join the discourse regardless of their limitation. Remember those gaggle of Jewish scientist that created nuclear bomb do not speak English very well to this day. Well, they speak math, the language of science.
I take that when I say FILIPINO, you understood it as POOR. That is sad. Whom I am attacking are those self-righteous FILIPINOS who thought they can post in impeccable English therefore they are right.
I ridicule the powers if I have something. I do not have something because I do not read politics. To me, politics is pure tsismis and suggestive innuendoes no basis in fact. If there is “basis in facts” it is based on WITNESS ACCOUNTS and purported CREDENTIALS. That is why I keep away from it. Politics is like horoscopes it speaks in general terms until the day is over and read back your daily horoscope again you realize that what was predicted never happened. All of these politicians are goot until they sit in their jobs became monsters.
These politicians were elected because of what was spewed in the Philippine Media. Who they elect is what they read from Philippine Media. Therefore, the government is Philippine Media. Since we have never progressed until now, therefore, Philippine Media was always wrong and were the tool of corruption.
Benign0 Aquino is a fluke. Benign0 Aquino was an unknown until his Mommy Cory died. Then the Philippine Media started selling him with the help of my darling, Kris Aquino. Filipinos just fell for it. By a stroke of luck he turned out to be straight as an arrow. Filipinos wanted an example of his political capital. He vigorously run after Ate Glo & Co. and by association, Corona, because he is the stumbling block of TRO. By a stroke of luck those 188 rubber-stamp congressmen tried to endear themselves (kiss ass) to Benign0 without reading the impeachment articles. By another stroke of luck impeachment was a political process where “due process” can or cannot be applied so the rats came out. Mr. Anonymous and Little Lady in Red Riding hood waving surreptiously acquired private bank records and the rest is history THAT CAN BE REPEATED AGAIN because precedence has already happened.

Well, thank you Mariano for confirming what I’ve always suspected of the real person behind the handle; that therein dwells an intelligent, sensible man with an important message. I know this now, not because you finally write in perfect english. But because there is an authenticity to this particular commentary. More from the core, so to speak. Though the message itself is consistent with what I’ve already picked up from the previous englischtzes versions.
Maybe some people may now be asking, why then didn’t you just say so! in this more direct way, in the first place? But that’s really like asking why Shakespeare wrote in verse, why people write poetry, even why Les Miserables Is a musical. As far as I’m concerned, you can keep writing in englistch for as long as you want.
Now, about the adobo. That I don’t get. How can you not like adobo anymore? Maybe because you haven’t tasted mine. Ahaha!
Mariano Renato Pacifico says
Aw, c’mon, CHA !!!! I spent days and months replying to Letlet. I have to perfeckt my englsichtzes so Letlet gets intimidated that I can write perfeckt englischtzes after all . I HAVE NOT AND DID NOT EVEN QUOTE SHAKESPEARE AND OTHER LIBRARY OF DEAD POET SOCIETY.
Quoting shakespeare, Don quiojote, Michaevilli, 2Pac and Dr Dre to name the popular most quoted dead literarist DOESN’T MAKE ME RIGHT.
And, Oh, @Letlet, I do not deal the erotic cybercrime laws because laws in the Philippines are applied sparingly not consistently. You can delve into its exoticity of Laws while I take care to change the Filiipno minds in my own little ways.

I can’t stand it whenever Mariano, whose moral barometer is highly questionable without doubt, tramples the dignity and the humanness of the poor people, who are so downtrodden and very unfortunate economically and educationally .If his purpose in being a satirist is to effect changes by ridiculing the poor people, then he has lost his touch with the reality. A satirist can, and should ridicule the powers that be, as such, the poor people aren’t the powers that be. As a whole, I would say Mariano is a very nasty peice of work with a hundredfold attitude problem. He is a thousandfold HYPOCRITE by saying UP graduates are snooty, yet, his snootiness towards the poor people is showcasing the kind of person he is: hypocrite, arrogant, and absolutely ingrata on the human and natural resources he is now procuring in pinas. He who does not know the words compassion and mercy should not be a reciprocal of these virtues. Dear CPMERS, keep your distance away from him. He is not worthy in any measure.

WHY IS IT THAT I READ MORE ABOUT AL JAZEERA THAN PHILIPPINE MEDIA ? So are the very very very FEW INTELLECTUAL FILIPNOS IN AMERICA ? WHY ?
Here is the answer: Because there is something wrong with Philippine Media.
Here is an advice: Do not rush the news to print. Vet and Vet and Verify and Verify to gain CREDIBILITY.

5. Filipinos hate themselves why Mariano Renato Pacifico can answer back in longer tra-la-las in englsichtzes and IT TAKES THEM HOURS AND HOURS TO PERFECKT THEIR ENGLSICHTZES when they studied in ivy schools like Ateneo la Salle and UP whereas MRP still struggling at Aklan Elementary School in Ivory Coast

And poor pathetic 65-IQ point Filipnos ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE and retell the stories to me. I just totally puke. Even Philippine journalists retell the stories as if it is true.
Here is what is weird about Filipino commentators that should be analyz by Philippine Journalists from Ateneo and la Salle:
1. compelling argument is bading, bakla, bayot, gay
2. compelling argument drags your lolos, lolas to the scene just like the senate foreign-educated ivy-school graduate elected senator investigators
3. when you say you are goot at math, they ask for explanation of theory of relativity e=mcsquared
4. compelling argument attrackts a gaggle of english-protectorates needling on grammar and spelling and punctuation
5. WHY DO YOU THINK FILIPINOS ARE LIKE THAT ????????? IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH FILIPINOS ????????
Does perfection of grammar and englsichtzes makes ARGUMENT RIGHT ?

In an earlier post, I made a list of pernicious Filipino habits (PFHs) that have been at work in the majority of us and in past Philippine presidents since Emilio Aguinaldo’s (President of the 1st Philippine Republic) time.
It looks like these PFHs are deeply rooted in the Filipino psych that’s why we have a nation where most of its leaders are depraved into thinking that they are entitled in interpreting their own “rule of law.”
I’ll add two more to that list: “debt of gratitude” (DG), or “utang na loob”, and “guarding – stealing” (GS), or “bantay-salakay.”
An incidence of DG was when Cory Aquino was asked (I hate to say “dictated upon”) by the church to drop POPCOM (Population Commission) program initiated by Marcos. Having owed the church protection when her regime was bombarded by seven coup d’etats, she had no choice.
A video aired on TFC Channel yesterday showed the working of GS among PNP officers who are considered to be law enforces; they appropriated to themselves confiscated firecrackers and they did it with great relish!
If the present trend of things is an indication, then TND (‘tuwid na daan”) is a steep uphill road!
fed_up says
CORRECTION: “psyche” instead of “psych”; ADDITION AFTER …”interpreting their own “rule of law.”…(remember CJ Corona impeachment trial and VP Binay’s (during Pres. GMA’S term) and Gov. Garcia’s refusal to follow orders to step down?)
leona says
@fed_up…’xxx own rule of law” or ORL is in sync to GS ‘guarding ^ stealing,” DG ‘debt of gratitude,” and you’re right it is the PFHs ‘pernicious Filipino habits.”
Maybe, just maybe, we got this out of being 300 years ‘slaves’ by the Spaniards here! Our forefathers and before them, handed this pHs down to generations that no matter what we learn in school, this keeps popping out in our traits as HABITS.
Suggested solution: Orientation : 1.) what is RULE OF LAW really about. 2.) JUSTICE. 3.) Leadership. 4) Love of Country. 5.) Welfare of the People. 6.) Corruption, why it ruins the country and people. 7.) Why is Bribery bad. 8.) Rotten Pakikisama is bad. 9Public Office is a Public Trust. and 10.) Where My Loyalty to My Country Begins My Loyalty to My Party Ends.
Orientation seminar for all government officials, elected and appointed, and down to the lowest public officials and employees in the government, Tanods of Barangays. A reminder of what is at hand and what will happen in the future.
Like ‘re-studying’ by all government officials of themselves to remove such PFHs the pernicious Filipino habits. And thanks for this too!

“House to house search on for Stephanie Nicole’s killer” To look for the person who ‘fired’ a gun that killed that so young victim.
But the PNP of Caloocan City does not yet know what ‘caliber or slug type’ [if not yet recovered] is on hand! How can they find the person? Looking for a needle in a haystack has more chances. Here, no slug, what gun?
Tama ba itong course of action? Why not wait to get that slug and make house-to-house inquiry?
