Dear Joe America, is this you?

Please let us know how we can help. I’m sure there are thousands of readers who would want to pitch in, in Cyber Plaza Miranda. Right guys?

The last time Joe posted anything was just before Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda, saying that the Philippines was “The Most Dangerous Land: Exhibit A.”

He is right of course.

He is also right, when in previous postings, he rhapsodized over the beauty of the island in central Philippines where he lives.

Since Friday before the storm hit, Joe has not posted anything else on his blog, joam.com and we at Cyber Plaza Miranda are understandably worried.

Then @Kamison posted this saying:

Sa mga taga-hanga ni Joe America (CPM commentator at bloggist), eto kaya siya?

Biliran o Abuyog, Leyte, kanu ganuon pa man din.

VIDEO | American shelters 100 neighbors in Leyte home at height of ‘Yolanda’

By: Edison Reyes, News5
November 16, 2013 8:20 AM

A kind-hearted American living in the town of Abuyog in Leyte province didn’t think twice in offering his home as refuge to about 100 of his neighbors at the height of super typhoon Yolanda (international code name: Haiyan).

James Ferguson relates how he sheltered and took care of his neighbors from the strongest storm in the world this year.

You can watch the video by clicking on this link.

Do tell us if you’re OK and what we can do to help.

Ang tanong, “Please let us know how we can help. I’m sure there are thousands of readers who would want to pitch in, in Cyber Plaza Miranda. Right guys?”

Aking sagot, Yes, count me in.

Salamat Raissa, ganuon din sa iyo Ginoong James Ferguson (aka @Joe America?)

Raissa, kailan ang ‘Donate Button’ mo? Since 2011 pa iyang request?

    —

“… See you in the other side, …”? I hope @Joe’s not bidding farewell as ‘paalam, at kamusta sa kabilang buhay’. And @leona was right at #6.2. “… Joe Am transferred to …”

Didn’t the other GI Joe (named Gen. Douglas M.) once said, “I shall return!”.

Be optimistic folks, just as James Ferguson is – Mabuhay!

        Ahoy James.

I’m wondering and I don’t mean to be a pain in the backside, would you happen to know a blogger (joam.com) who uses the blog-handle of Joe America? He claims he is a resident of Leyte, Phils.

Due to the Haiyan or Yolanda Super Typhoon disaster, a lot of netizens are concerned about his welfare there abouts at Leyte. Please read and visit http://raissarobles.com/2013/11/17/dear-joe-america-is-this-you/

You were featured in a news video clip, please see http://www.interaksyon.com/article/74951/video–american-shelters-100-neighbors-in-leyte-home-at-height-of-yolanda.

And a lot of Filipino netizens assume (including yours truly) it could be you since both of you hail from Leyte province.

Can you kindly please confirm if James A. Ferguson is or is not Joe America of joam.com. Thanks.

        —
        To date, wa pang sagut.

OK folks, if not the same person, I’ll cop the flak.
Leave the lovely lady alone. Ok, caputs? lol!

Dahil ginawang blog article na ni Raissa, if you know firsthand that @Joe America (blog handle) is NOT James Ferguson in real life, then please enlighten us or provide a link.

Albeit – either one of them can confirm here at CPM. THANK YOU.

Or so much the better, both of them.

If he is Joe America, thank goodness he’s alright. And lots of thanks too for helping his neighbors. If it is not him, more prayers that he, his family, and his community are alright and that soon he will be in touch as soon as power is restored in Biliran.

For the American in the video, wow what an honorable thing to do in times of disaster and devastation. You have a big heart and thank you for sharing it to the Filipino people in the midst of disaster and devastation. We are grateful that you decided to retire and live in the Philippines.

I hope, wish and pray that the Filipino politicians are like you or even just half like you.

I wish the people in charge of relief goods is listening to your plea. YES, NO HOARDING PLEASE!

Joe, am I hope and pray that you are safe and yes stay safe. Just give us a glimpse or a whisper that you are okay, please.

      Guiuan grocer forgives looters

      By Niña P. Calleja
      Philippine Daily Inquirer
      12:39 am | Monday, November 18th, 2013

Typhoon Haiyan survivors walk at the destroyed port in the town of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Friday, Nov. 15, 2013. Three days after the typhoon struck last Nov. 8, Susan Tan’s grocery store and warehouse in Guiuan were ransacked by hungry townsmen and she lost P10 million worth of goods. But she has opted to forgive them, she said, blaming the government instead for its slow response to the needs of the typhoon victims. AP PHOTO/DAVID GUTTENFELDER

GUIUAN, Eastern Samar—For Susan Tan, it was a case of forgive and forget.

The 43-year-old grocer of Chinese descent said she was shocked and disappointed to see friends, government employees and even policemen among those who ransacked her grocery store and warehouse after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” flattened the town at the edge of the Pacific Ocean.

Would DBP or Landbank loan her in lieu of lost property or goods to looters to help her get back to business?

When JoeAm gets the chance to read all these, he ought to devote an essay telling all of us how he felt. I look forward to it. His last blog re: HK’s demands upon the Republic and Erap’s cow-towing intervention is a very sober and mature approach. Fope to hear from you soon, JoeAm!!!!

What I just wrote…got lost here.

Biliran Province, where I believe Joe Am lives is up NORTH of Tacloban City, and Abuyog town is DOWN SOUTH of Tacloban City, a distance of almost more than 250 km+.

JoeAm could not possibly be at the latter town – Abuyog considering the road conditions etc. after Yolanda hit the coastal towns of Tacloban up to down south Abuyog town.

    • leona says

      November 17, 2013 at 11:18 PM

The American guy in Abuyog town is probably ANOTHER American who lives there.

leona, early on I’ve heard reports that there was usaf, united states air force plane, maybe on 1st or 2nd day after yolanda exited. the plane was in tacloban, carting away americans and their dependents to safely, out of ground zero. not sure if joeam was there onboard. hope he is safe though.

      November 17, 2013 at 11:27 PM

@Cha & @Jo are right…Joe Am lives in Biliran province.

If Joe Am says ‘See you on the other side’…he meant it that ‘He is moving to the other side of the Island…in the middle of the Island is a high mountain. On the other side (western part as Joe Am maybe on the EASTERN part facing the open OCEAN/sea) where the Yolanda storm approached from,

Joe Am transferred to …maybe ‘one of the towns’ on that ‘OTHER SIDE’ of the Island, to seek shelter and safety for everyone in the family and himself.

Creepy? No. Don’t scare me yet.

      • Tomas Gomez III says

        November 18, 2013 at 2:00 AM

JoeAm will have ample time to explain his “other side” comment.

        • Dee says

          November 20, 2013 at 12:33 AM

“See you on the other side.” It’s just an American expression which means, “See you later (after this typhoon blows over).” Nothing morbid or bizarre about it.

I, too, hope that Joe, Maude and their little one are safe and well. Had left a message through the Biliran website and the local radio station in Naval for him and his family.

          November 20, 2013 at 10:11 AM

    • Rene-Ipil says

      November 18, 2013 at 11:13 AM

      Leona & Cha @ 6&5

I think that JoeAm evacuated to the west side of Biliran Island, maybe at Naval. I also believe that he lives at eastern Biliran, probably Caibiran town, where rice fields abound. So that JoeAm and his family are now safe but not sure if his properties survived.

On Thursday when he wrote “see you on the other side when electricity is restored”, he was in west Biliran. So that “the other side means” eastern Biliran, his home.

      • leona says

        November 18, 2013 at 4:19 PM

hahaha…@Rene…if JoeAM was already at the ‘Western Side’ and went back to the ‘Eastern Side’ Yolanda was WAITING FOR HIM!

The West side is/was safer at the time.

I hope this is not what took place.

    No, that’s not Joe.

I think power has not been restored in Biliran Island yet so maybe he is just not able to access the internet.

He has not been responding to emails sent to [email protected].

Hopefully he and the family are well.

In case Joe comes out, can we make a private fundraising for him? Any spare is welcome through Raissa, of course, if she doesn’t mind … .

    However, if this IS Joe–
