* * *
Sapagka’t meron tayong nakalimutan.
* * * *
Paano tayo magbabago?
* * * *
* * * *
* * * *

Margaret Thatcher – An Iron Lady born with a will of steel
Source: Express bu David Robson, April 9, 2013
Margaret Thatcher had been an unlikely candidate for leadership of the Conservatives. She was not socially high-powered, she was not well- connected and she was not experienced ( education secretary had been her only cabinet post) yet she became one of the best prime ministers of United Kingdom
…………………..
Grace Poe, to be a formidable opponent of Binay, should learned lessons from Margaret Thatcher and make her as an inspiration in her (Grace) pursuit of winning the presidential bid. She has to make a lot of good reading about Thatcher.

ON SHACKLING THE FILIPINOS
The Marcos regime has done an enormous damage to the Filipinism of the people. It shackled the nationalistic spirit of the common people, ligated their will power and determination to promulgate a common goal of a better country to live in for everybody. Such incursion of Marcos regime into the heart, mind and body of the masses had led to the disability of their totality, so much so the success of EDSA 1986 has gone futile, lost the meaning of its relevance. So utterly crestfallen we are, we lost the meaning of EDSA as days, months and years go by..

Leni Robredo is a good candidate for President. Transparent. Walang baggage. She acted quick to save her district from TRAPOS. Dismayed some experts for running in congress instead of the senate, but that quality of her as a stopper was rare in Philippine politics. She steady and she could go a long way.
letlet says
Good points about leni Robredo, but the majority of the voters are not aware of her who are so obsessed with famous and popular celebrities / people and will who vote for anyone who belong to such category whether he /she is idiot, very corrupt and very dishonest and an abhorrent candidate for government post. Then these very same voters moan endlessly about their lowly life.

Ferdinand Marcos ‘best president ever’?
Source: http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/focus/02/25/14/ferdinand-marcos-best-president-ever

Talk to turnaround experts, or read a little history, and you’ll hear this story repeatedly: There were people who raised the alarm, and they got shouted down. The night before NASA’s disastrous launch of the space shuttle Challenger in 1986, engineers from Morton-Thiokol urged managers to delay. They were worried that the cold weather forecast for the next day would cause problems with the rubber O-rings that sealed the joints in the solid-fuel booster rockets. “I am appalled by your recommendation,” George Hardy, NASA’s deputy director of science and engineering at the Marshall Space Flight Center, told Thiokol’s engineers, according to the book The Challenger Launch Decision by Diane Vaughan. NASA launched the shuttle on a bright cold January morning. The O-rings failed. The resulting catastrophe killed seven astronauts and could have ended the Space Shuttle program.
Investigations into the disaster showed NASA had fallen prey to what you might call “groupidity,” a special form of groupthink in which we collectively become willing to take risks we individually recognize as stupid—because everybody else in the room seems to think it’s fine. NASA had been noticing unexpected problems with the O-rings for a while. At meetings about that issue, they systematically redefined what they considered risky, and concerns about the O-rings were downplayed.

when does utak alipin kick in?
chit navarro says
But it’s a very tall order – to change the mindset of Filipinos, to reverse the “utak-alipin” syndrome, to remove the shackles brought by our colonizers and further strengthened by the years of Martial Law.
Joe America says
Those weren’t shackles, they were schools. :)
Actually, I’m inclined to ask exactly what form the shackles took? Empowering the few? I think the shackles are self-imposed at some point. In other words, one must look inward at oneself for the reason, rather than outward at others.
Lack of discipline and commitment come to mind. To let Edsa be an event rather than an enduring passion we demand of ourselves, as well as others.
raissa says
Hmmm, Joe, you can read Filipino?
Joe America says
I strive to educe meanings. That means no, but I do look at the words and guess. Chit threw in some English words, which is kind of like bones to a dog. :)
raissa says
you could also try using google translate. But why dont u learn the language? Im sure you can.
Joe America says
Sigh. Actually, I am being forced into that by ego. My young son recently conceded that his father “knows everything”, and I’d hate to let him down. He has started learning Filipino at his school so the pressure is on Dad.
chit navarro says

I thought you would have replied that you are using “Google translation”…

Shackles of inferior mentality – ingrained in us from the time we start our education. We felt inferior right away as the teachers were called Sir & Ma’am…(you don’t call them that in other countries). The people in power were called “Apo Mayor, etc.” and we grew up believing we were really inferior. And so when the slogan “Sa Ikauunlad ng Bayan, Disiplina ang Kailangan” during the martial law years, the more that the shackles of inferiority tightened around our culture. That when a politician will come a-visiting to the barrios and shake hands with the barrio folks, he is considered “god” and will patronize him, no matter how bad the performance is. I am sure you are privy to this kind of culture Joe in the locality where you live.
This is the mindset / culture that all of us has to help in changing – that we are all equal as citizens of the Republic of the Philippines. But then, if our rights are violated and we feel we are being shortchanged, where do we go for protection? When we have a justice system that caters to the moneyed and the powerful and a police system that is the same.
That’s why the circle goes on and one and unless we have another 6 years of Pres. Aquino, chances are the spirit of Edsa will soon be just a dream…. another Impossible Dream. Unless we get Grace as the next President, eh Joe?
Joe America says
Ah, I have never read a more precise and clear explanation of the shackles that bind. Thank you, Chit. And indeed I agree that the occupiers played a heavy (handed) role in this. I also agree that it is time to swap a little power for a little Grace. Little, as in short of bearing but huge of character.
parengtony says
Grace for President!
pelang says
@parengtony, I am quiet puzzled by Grace’s action lately about Dennis Cunanan. former TRC Chief turned witness against Revilla, Estrada and Gigi Reyes saying he can be a witness only if he returns the percentage he allegedly received from them while facilitating their papers on pork. It maybe true, but isn’t it the work of DOJ or Ombudsman to decide whom to approve as witness? I still don’t believe that Grace would forgive Estrada knowing how close her father was to Estrada’s father. Pag si Grace ang magiging next President, iisipin siguro ni jinggoy, maaabswelto siya or he will be granted absolute pardon at tuloy na naman ang masasayang araw niya. at any rate she will surely have a chance dahil sa name recall.
moonie says
I’m with you, pelang. erap is like a 2nd father to grace, they’re that close. so looks like the estradas cannot do wrong as far as grace is concerned. it looks to me grace is gunning for cunanan and even suggested that he be life style checked. I thought cunanan is a small fry compared to jinggoy, enrile and revilla, and he is the one being immediately put into lifestyle checked. say anything against jinggoy and you got grace to contend with. she is very protective of the estradas. in a way, grace is harassing the witness cunanan, showing the same animosity she showed to witness ruby tuason when ruby mentioned being the baglady handing money to estrada. grace is proving to be dangerous, instead of encouraging the witness to talk and give evidence, they’re being threatened, hinaharang.
JosephIvo says
Inferiority and insecurity go hand in hand. If you feel unsafe you have to search a broad shoulder to hide when in danger. In strong states all violence is in the hands of the state, in weak states war lords and local bullies deal in violence too.
Many Filipinos are fearful, and rightfully so, a bullet is so cheap. The state is too weak, judges for sale, (Chief Justice Sereno misses an iron fist?), the police is afraid of local (war)lords or they are involved in criminal activities themselves (Roxas behaves as Aquino’s puppy?), politicians are egocentric (liberal party governed by trapos?)…. And Duerte’s vigilantes are not the solution.
Wala wang wang was a powerful start but I miss the follow-up. I pray that Grace will have the balls to surround herself with “machos”, but with their heart at the right place.

talagang “subersib” ang turing sa iyo, raissa kung panahon pa ni marcos ngayon. i had a leftist inclination, but i never joined a group officially. i tend to have friends on the other side and tried to understand their goals. Once, we had a singing group as part of our YCAP requirement whose members were known as leftists and some had experienced of being picked-up already. And so, we were made to sell tickets for the concert. I was trying to sell to a relative whose father was a member of a military intellegence group. This intellegence group had list of names of leftist group members. I was convincing hard his daughter to buy some tickets and told her who the members of this singing group were. And she in turn asked money to buy the tickets from her father and told her the members were warays coming from the whole Samar provinces. And she began enumerating some of them (the more popular ones turned out to be known leftists), Her father told her to stay away from the group and not get involved because the members she mentioned are known to be leftists and are hunted by the military. which just left me like, WTF? We’d be arrested for singing waray songs in a concert? Thanks goodness, nothing of that sort happened. But that just goes to show how difficult it was to even form a club or an organization. There was always this cloud of fear haunting you. so, i don’t really understand why there are still Marcos hangers here. at least ngayon, free tayong mag report ng anomalies. noong panahon ni marcos, kahit nagnanakaw siya, hindi natin nalalaman. Si Arroyo, gusto ring mag-declare ng martial law para hindi malaman ng tao kung ano ang pinag gagawa niya. she began by signing those executive directives prohibiting his executives, ministries, military not to spill the beans. Parang papunta na tayo doon.
