Sa ilalim ng video, mababasa ninyo ang dalawang tula o poem sa Inggles ng batikang makatang si Dr. Gémino Abad. Sinulat niya yung unang tula, “Elegy for a Liar”, nang sumiklab ang Edsa People Power noong 1986.

Elegy for a Liar
No honors, none!A national deception, and insult to our heroes,Flimflam of speech,A monstrous lie in our history books,To bury Marcos with any trappings of honor. No!We cannot entrust this to political parties,To trapos, politicians all: they think it’s expedientFor one man to be buried with honorsThan for them to suffer defeat in our elections.O, my people! We are too forbearing, too forgiving,Too long-suffering,Too prone to make compromises,And this corrupts our sense of justice. Is this why we make so little progress?Shall we at last changeOur country’s name to Pazienzia? Its citizens shall be called PatientesOur overseas contract workers,Out-patients.Pazienzia
No more Masses for you, sir, except – for you do not intend to die – a private requiem beyond salvage of flames. O, by what quack count is your covenant forged? Who are you, sir, who? Less than hero, more than our Law. Which, sir, among those ministerial asterisks, is your true certificate? In your ghostly precinct by a slow, polluted river, behind your barbed wire and ignorant phalanx of arms, Who are you, sir, who? No more Masses! Our priests abandon your ark, our leaders reject your Council of State, your Electoral Tribunal; to your inaugural, no ambassadors come.Unscroll now the final, irrevocable Lie – the New Society, the City of Man! We know not your name or figure, but only more lies, lies, your sackcloth and ashes. [written by Dr. Gémino Abad on May 2, 2012]

Marcoses Will Just Wait for All Martial Law Witnesses, Victims To Die Off
By ALAN C. ROBLES
The Marcos family has unveiled a new strategy for dealing with its numerous victims and critics: wait for them to die off.
“We’ve decided that apart from lying about and denying all their accusations, we will basically outlive all those stupid people”, said Marcos flunky Benedicto Maligno, chief of the PR consultancy firm Mordor Enterprises, Pte.
He revealed the strategy to this reporter on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law. On September 21, 1972, Ferdinand Marcos illegally imposed military rule, plunging the country into a 14-year savage dictatorship that saw thousands killed and many thousands more illegally jailed and tortured. The dictator and his cronies plundered the country – the Marcos family’s stolen wealth alone is estimated at US$10 billion. By the time Marcos and family were chased out of the country in 1986, the country’s economy, political structure and institutions were in shambles.
“Aw, who cares all about that crap”, Maligno shrugged, as he inhaled cocaine. “The best thing is to just deny it, know what I mean?”
He admitted this was difficult because millions of Filipinos who suffered and survived Martial Law presented a “big problem.”
“They’re definitely inconvenient. If this were still Martial Law, we’d just salvage them, but now, that kind of approach poses difficulties..
“That is why we decided on ‘Oplan Antay Patay.’ Just do the math: those Filipinos who were 10 to 20 years old in 1972? They’re now in their 50s and 60s. Give them 25 years tops and they’ll be dead. No more problem!”
When his attention was called to the fact that many of the Marcoses and their cronies would themselves also be dead by then, Maligno smiled and replied: “You really think so? Look at Imelda. And Enrile. And Tatad – they have special incantations over at the CBCP to keep him alive, although his soul probably died a long time ago.”
The outwait plan, as Maligno termed it, will complement the Marcoses’ ongoing projects to scrub history.
“We’re outsourcing our propaganda efforts to cheap, semi-literate Facebook groups like Showbiz Government, Antipinoy and GRP. We also have that animation company, Pinoy Monkey Pride. They’re doing a good job keeping the youth ignorant.”
Maligno said “Oplan Antay Patay will take care of the older people. And think of the payoffs – the Marcoses still face numerous charges of plunder and human rights violations, all of these will disappear when the victims die.
“The goal is not just to bury Ferdinand Marcos in the Heroes’ Cemetery and see his son elected president. The goal is to make sure the Marcos dynasty once more owns the country. And the beautiful thing is if election and another Martial Law don’t work? No problem! By the time all the people who remember Martial Law are dead, the interest in the loot the Marcoses stole will allow the family to BUY the country.”
Maligno said that “everyone will once again know the true meaning of that powerful Marcos motto – ‘the Filipino is worth stealing from.’ “

can history be stopped from repeating itself? can people be stopped from being fooled by ponzi schemes? maybe. maybe not.
will this piece of history repeat itself when edsa is not celebrated properly to remind the people? the answer is blowing in the wind…

@drill down
history without understanding is not history. It is merely memory. It is only history that is not well understood that risks repeating itself like the dreaded diseases of the past before the discovery of the germ theory of diseases.
Until now many of us are still unsure whether EDSA People Power was a revolt or a revolution. For me, it was military revolt that was backed by the people and so it succeeded. That was the easy part.
As a revolution however, the best I can say about it is that it is still a work in progress. Revolution means change. But after almost three decades, what has changed in our society. The poor, already poor under Marcos are still poor as ever and just more numerous.
The task of transforming our society and rebuilding our country does not fall on the government alone but with our society as well. And we have no choice but to build our country from the ground up and not from the top down. The challenge for us is to lift the poor from poverty by making them productive and allowing them to enjoy the fruits of their toil. What can you do about this?
The answer is not blowing in the wind. It is in you.
leona says
…if there is no leader at the top, then those below cannot build from the top; but there is a leader at the top and there’s always followers at the ground, so build both ways: up and down or vice versa – down and up!
…and meet at the middle like building that English Channel to France…it did!
This method should be the trend this 21st century…because people throughout the world are now more into it. Discard the old method as it was horrible and bloody for everyone.

Let’s go back to history: 2 prominent dictators whose mortal remains are preserved for posterity until now are Vladimir Lenin and Macoy. The 3rd one, Joseph Stalin, whose body was also preserved initially in the Lenin Mausoleum upon his death in 1953, was removed and buried at the Kremlin cemetery as part of the process of de-stalinization in 1961, and erase from the books of history the cruel reign of Stalin that caused the death of 20 to 60 Million people
Vladimir Lenin, 1870-1924, was a brilliant Russian Communist revolutionary that served as leader of the Russian SFSR from 1917 until his death in 1924. In October, 1917, the Tzar government was overthrown by the Bolshevik revolution that resulted to millions of death including the reigning Romanov family. The rise of Modern Russia was attributed to the honest and dedicated Lenin, born of rich family, with the help from Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin, among a few of the notable socialist personalities at that time. As influential as he was in life, Lenin may have been more so in death. He deserves a lot of credit for the notion that the meek can inherit the earth, that there can be a political movement based on social justice and equality.
Ferdinand Edralin Marcos, Sr.- 1917-1989, a Filipino dictator from 1965-1986. While in power, he implemented wide-ranging programs of infrastructure development and economic reform. However, his administration was marred by massive authoritarian corruption, despotism, nepotism, political repression and human rights violation, which culminated in the assassination of Benigno Aquino. Critics considered marcos the quintessential kleptocrat, having looted billions of dollars from the Filipino treasury. The large personality cult in the Philippines surrounding marcos also led to disdain (wikipedia)
In 2012, in a poll conducted by a Russian website, 48% of the people that responded voted that the body of Lenin be buried in a heroes cemetery, while the marcos remains are currently interred inside a refrigerated crypt in Ilocos Norte – awaiting binay?

“MANILA, Philippines – Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano urged the Supreme Court to designate a special criminal court which will conduct daily hearings on the P10-billion pork barrel scam in which three of his colleagues are charged with plunder.
“Isang pwedeng maging legacy ng ating Supreme Court ngayon ay ang pagsasagawa ng continuous trial nang mapabilis ang hearing ng lahat ng ito pag nakarating ito sa korte,
Cayetano said.”
Maari ba ito? ‘Special court’?

@letlet,
thanks for the positive feedback. What I want to convey in the poem is the need for us to cross and close the great gap between our people. On one hand are those privileged to have access to opportunities, food and information and on the other hand are the great mass of people toiling in extreme poverty and ignorance. How can we expect these people to exercise their democratic right wisely when because of perpetual hunger, all they can remember is the last meal that they had and who gave it to them. That is why the task of lifting them from their condition first is not just of the government but of society as well in which we belong. If we insist on ignoring this reality, come voting time we stand to sink with them. When that happens, we can blame them. But we too are at fault as well.
letlet says
@ george bernas @ greenpea
Everybody knows that the well connected and very rich illegal loggers are paying the poor people to cut down the trees for them in return for monetary considerations. These poor people have no recourse but to accept the payment to buy their basic needs – food, clothes, whatever, as they have no other ways to earn money The aftereffects of the illegal loggings are so devastating to the natural environment and to the residents of the area / region, that the government has to strictly enforce the logging laws. Curtail also the use of power of position and influence. Walang palakasan.
Indeed, the disparity between the rich and the poor is enormous and has to be addressed at, but by whom and how. The poor can’t do it due to lack of resources- education ( skills and knowledge), income, communication and transport facilities. I’m pretty sure they have an innermost desire to alleviate themselves from the sufferings and poverty they are enduring, sadly, they are stuck in the rut
