Today is the day that lawmakers and all those who matter in the Philippine government dress to the nines. And Senator Nancy Binay is no exception.
On this momentous day, she has apparently taken something out-of-the-ordinary as her clothing inspiration:

Today is a very important day. It’s that time of the year when the President goes over to Congress and, in a moving ceremony, pounds a large native drum and officially proclaims the start of the pork hunting season.
Just kidding. Actually, SONA — State of the Nation Address — is a political event that directly affects the lives of overwhelming numbers of politicians, reporters, columnists, furrowed-brow TV commentators, spin doctors and coup plotters. A couple thousand people, tops. The rest of the country couldn’t care less, except motorists cursing the traffic jam near Congress.
But because it’s right there on all the TV and radio channels, we may as well try to understand it. So we have prepared this easy to understand, well-organized definitive guide.
The Parts of the SONA
Inside Congress, you have….
The President – some guy who delivers the speech. Scientists suspect it isn’t healthy to be near him. A few SONAs ago, he was with a Supreme Court chief justice and a Senate president — who haven’t been heard from since.
The Speech — a masterpiece of enthralling oratory telling everyone what a great time they’ve been having under this administration. Some listeners hope for surprise announcements, such as the lucky winner of a slightly used condo formerly occupied by an ex-chief justice. Unfortunately this has yet to happen.

maganda nga yata magpumilit sila para once and for all magupo na talaga yang mga salot na yan.
Sa tingin ko kung may pagkukulang man si PNoy., ito ay ang hindi pa niya natutunan kung paano patulungin sa kanya ang mga taumbayan na nais tumulong sa kanya. Kaya tuloy, ang mga sumusuporta sa kanya ay nanonood lang habang ang masa ay nag-aabang ng benepisyo sa ilalim ng pamumuno niya.
Pero matagal o mahirap makita ng mga tao ang benepisyo sa macro level dahil subjective sila mag isip at paangat ng paangat ang kanilang hierarchy of needs. Kaya karaniwan nadadala sila ng propaganda kung saan nagpapaka bihasa ang kalaban ni Pnoy.
Ang iniisip ko lang, kung ang mga taong sumusuporta kay PNoy ay hindi na mag-antay na pakilusin o paki usapan pa ni PNoy kung ano ang gagawin, pero sa halip ay magkaisang gumawa ng kahit na anong maliit na proyekto para tulungan ang tunay na lugmok sa lipunan, at gawin ito hindi sa ngalan ni PNoy kundi sa ngalan ng tuwid na daan na kanyang adhika, siguro mas marami ang makukumbinsi na may pagbabago na nga sa ating lipunan.
Ang mga kababayan nating pagkahirap hirap, para na rin silang sinalanta ng isang kalamidad, man made nga lang. Pero di ba sa panahon ng kalamidad, tayo na mismo ang nagkukusa na tulungan ang ating kapwa? Bakit pag likhang tao ang kalamidad, wala tayong ginagawa?

See VP Binay actions? He never contradicted PNOY, he is playing safe for his Plan. If he will continue to help PNOY, he will be on the good side…PNOY mentioned him during his SONA, that was a good remark to VP Binay, in return he should continue working for his assigned Job as VP and as OFW problem solver…

Vp binay is secretly PNoy’s choice in 2016 as an insurance that he won’t be relentlessly prosecuted as he steps down, in contrast to what he did to gma and corona.
Binay will also need the support, monetary & otherwise, of his friends from the UNA opposition whom he’ll possibly repay by quashing the plunder cases of the 3 senatongs whose trial is predicted to outlast PNoy’s term, no thanks to the dilatory tactics of estong mendoza & co.
By and large, the efforts of COA & DOJ might just go to waste – and woe to the whistle-blowers and to the expectations of the millions of Filipinos.
If we don’t vote wisely and no extra efforts to convince our relatives and friends, we may enter another era of “dark ages” or “maitim na pamamahala”

IMO the FOI bill would not pass in Congress if we keep on electing the same representatives or representative from the same political families/clan. The simple reason is: self-preservation. If you are a representative with “something to hide,” would you pass a bill that could end your or your family’s political clout/ambitions? The president should take part of the blame for lacking the political will to push for FOI, but I think it is Congress that we should pressure into passing the FOI bill.

I think, FOI is just a carrot dangled to pacify people specially during election time. make us beleive politicians are concerned and have our interest at heart.
kung talagang kailangan yong dokumento pwede namang i-subpoena. you dont need to wait for FOI to obtain information. kaso lang, once you submit paperwork to request documents via FOI ay bigla nalang nawawala yong dokumentong, not filed, misplaced or its whereabouts is not known. sometimes people make excuses, tinangay daw ng baha, nabasa raw nong bagyo nagkaruon ng mold at nasira beyond repair, unreadable. the person in charge of the documents has changed job daw and no one know what happened to documents. I remember the specimen (document?) kept by NBI that was summoned by court, pero biglang nawala yong specimen and cannot be located, kaya tuluyang nakalaya ang rapist ng mga anak ni mang lauro vizconde. freed for lack of evidence.
nowadays, the excuses for failing to locate documents are nagkaruon daw ng computer glitch, na-hack ang computer at corrupted ang data, na-wipe out. kung talagang tutuusin, solons have priveleges and can access information that we cannot access. it would be easy for them to clean up their own ranks. instead, they leave it to us to do the cleaning, and danggle us FOI.
maybe, that is why PNoy is not very interested in FOI, he probably knows FOI is largely a facade and not the holy grail. it will only disappoint us. opinion ko lang po it.

Nobody would touch the electrical cord if he knows he would be electrocuted. I guess the govt has many hidden secrets that they are withholding and still studying if they will access to the public. There are good and bad effects but the greatest maybe is the danger of damaging international relationship with other countries while information about politicians maybe given a backseat now that the justice system is running to a crawl, at least its working now. It would be a different story if a corrupt leader replaces PNOY and he leaves without this bill passed. Maybe we can asked Raissa and Baycas IN THEIR OPINION AND RESEARCH if FOI IS THE GREATEST GIFT OF BILL from the govt to eradicate corruption and bad doings.

As I see the Freedom of Information Act
ADVANTAGES are
–The public is kept knowledgeable about the actions of its government
–The officials in the government are kept honest because what they do can be made public
DISADVANTAGES
The release of certain information could jeopardize international relationships
The release of other information could affect the conduct of negotiations. If tactical information were released it could put our troops in harms’ way. An example is what happened when Wiki leaks released internal memos/emails that appeared criticized allies of the US. But, it also taught government officials how they should be communicating properly and effectively (an advantage).
Basically, this act provides for accountability of elected and appointed officials to the public that they serve. This advantage far out-weighs the disadvantages.[ NOT MINE]

USA has FOI for a long time, but then, produced snowden. where’s snowden now? living in russia and I supposed, helping russia to spy on USA in exchange for letting him stay.
my sister once obtained documents through FOI. she filed forms, paid required fee and waited nearly a week for the release of the documents. and was surprised the documents she got have paragraphs that were blackened and could not be read. apparently, those paragraphs were classified, under embargo, and will only be unclassified and made un-embargo after a period of years, or when the person/s referred to in the paragraphs are dead. my sister was not allowed to photocopy the documents, or take them out the room. they were for her ‘eyes only’. and if she wants to read the documents again say a day after tomorrow, she has to re-apply for their release again. and maybe wait longer this time because there might be others interested in the same documents and got priority over her.
then, there’s accountability. she has to sign her name in a ledger noting that she has read and accessed the documents. people mentioned in the documents would then know you have been reading about them. FOI work both ways. if you want to know about others, then others may want to know about you. you cannot say dont let them know I’ve been reading about them for that would not be FOI. so, be prepared to meet people you have only read about but not seen. it’s scary sometimes.

I am still wondering why PNoy did not mention the country’s gain in the average income for every Filipino which showed the rise in the purchasing power of Filipino consumers.

Average figures, if you stand with one foot on ice, the other on fire, isn’t the average comfortable? The problem is that the increase Sy and some of his friends took did leave no room for income increases of the other 99% of Filipinos. Inclusive growth is still an illusion. The President knows this and he is a honest guy so for the 99% of his bosses he had nothing to tell.

Lean statistics are not available. Joseph Stiglitz in “The Price of Inequality” has plenty of detailed statistics for the US proving this. I see few elements to make me think that the situation in the Philippines is better. (May be that the financial institutions are less powerful?) But some elements:
1/3 of the consumption is coming from remittances of 1/5 of the workforce being OFW’s. How much people earn abroad is little influenced by Filipino policies.
The number of poor people stable around 50%. So the 7% growth in GDP must be 14% increase in average income for the 50% non-poor people.
The evolution of minimum wages wass far below 14%. A large group of Filipinos don’t even make the minimum wage, farmers, tricycle drivers, domestic workers, sari-sari helpers, you name them. 2/3 of the companies apply the minimum wage laws, 1/3 doesn’t. In most companies that do most earn around this minimum wage. This means that for he remainder, the call center operators or professionals, the salary increase should be far above 14%. I didn’t hear of anybody around me who got this large yearly increases over the last 4 years. But indeed, may be the people I know are not representative and all others got this huge yearly increases. If not, where is the GDP growth collected? Only at the top of the pyramid.
The 1% was a fast assumption, maybe it is 2% or even 5%, but the large majority didn’t experience this growth. So why should Aquino mention the growth in average income that did not exist for the majority of his bosses?

and the foreigners hiring Pinoys for the rehab efforts give a much bigger salary compared to government wages. some health workers like nurses are being paid better than those in government or even private hospitals.

tama ka dyan, sykes. plus the government is hiring more people and workers to tackle building and road works. also hiring more teachers to teach in public schools, their pay is higher, their benefits are more, kaya teachers in private school are now applying to be public school teachers.
billionaire sy is not keeping all that money to himself. he owns businesses and hire people, thousands of people around the country: sekyus, salespersons, drivers, etc.
at gaya ng sinabi ni netty, if people will only start helping themselves, get educated and avail themselves of work skills needed in the workplace rather than just sitting and waiting for riches to come their, or win millions in lotto, they might just be successful and have jobs.

In 2009 about half (49.7%) of the nation’s income went to the top fifth of the country while about 6% went to the bottom fifth. The top 10% of the population accounted for a little over a third of the income (33.6%) while the poorest 10% came to only 2.6%. (World Bank figures) More recent stats are harder to come by on the spur of the moment, but financial media & other data indicate that the level of inequality is hardly improving at all, for a number of reasons: population growth’s competition with economic growth & the tendency of the highest quintile to put their gains into real estate & financial markets that mainly benefit the rich (rather than into local investments that would generate jobs) are foremost.
It doesn’t help that so much middle quintile income ends up in the pockets of a few wealthy mall owners, either. Our emerging middle class is in need of serious improvement in financial literacy.
Numbers exist to support these views, but NSO & NSCB hesitate to make those numbers official before they’re fully statistically vetted. The present administration does have long term programs & goals working toward greater income equality, mainly through education & bringing employment opportunities to regions of greatest inequality. Concern about post 2016 follow-through on such programs (and the creation of better ones) should be at the front of voter’s minds in the coming elections…we’ll see.

Pero eventually dahil sa FOI, mas madali kumuha ng records. Eventually yung mga Taipan pag nakita na hindi na rin pwede yung rotten na kalakaran, eh pwedeng maging parehas na rin ng konti.

Sino ba naman ang hindi maluluha kung ikaw ay nahaharap sa sangkatutak na mga impeachment cases at sa pagtatapos ng iyong termino posibleng masampahan at makulong dahil sa sandamukal na kasong kriminal dahil sa maling paggamit ng DAP. Hanggang ngayon, totoo na patuloy na naghuhumiyak ang mga gov’t employees dahil sa loob ng iyong termino ay wala man lamang nakamit na wage increases sa kabila ng mahigit na 120 BILYONG pisong nahawakan nito sa DAP.

Good observations too! Lalo na yungnnaneglect yung mga govt. employees. One way of fighting corruption is paying commensurately the services of those people who might be tempted to accept lagays. Kita nila yung mga department heads lang at mga managers ang busog sa lagay, eh pano naman sila, mahal na ang food, kuryente at tuition ngm mga bata…
Continue pointing out things that other people might not see or chose to ignore, that helps us think more analytically rather than emotionally.

Baka hindi nyo alam, si Parekoy ay isa ring sabungero. Meron akong Texas (Mapula at malaki ang ulo, at mahaba ang leeg) na palaging winner. Ang kanyang rekord ay nanalo ng 60 wins. Regalo ito sa akin ni Kumpareng Robredo noong sya ay mayor pa sa Bicol. Bininyagan ko ang Texas na Manoy, bagay dahil tubong Bicol at galing kay Pareng Pogi (Pogi ang tawag sa kanya ng mga taga Naga City so Pogi na rin ang tawag ko kay Pare).
Itong si Manoy noong nasa kabataan nya palang, talaga naman, galing emere, at maluluma si Da King kung magrapido. Dahil kay Manoy, marami na arin akong naisilid sa mga panalo lalo na sa mga derby. Yung huling laban ni Manoy win pa rin sya pero minalas dahil nadale ang kanyang isang mata, kaya si Manoy ay isa na lang ang mata at para na rin syang Cyclops. Dahil sa kanyang kapansanan, pinag retire ko na si Manoy at ginawang panglahi. Enjoy si Manoy kasi talagang araw-araw meron syang inahing nalalahiian. Lagi ko ring kasama si Manoy kahit saan magpunta, ang turing ko sa kanya ay parang pet. Gusto nyang hipuin ko ang ulo nya bago sya matulog.
Dahil sa SONA, nagpunta kami ni Manoy sa Kongreso para maanood at mikinig ng SONA. Nawala ko ang invitasyon, at hindi kami pinapasok sa plenary. Kaya sabi ko kay Manoy sya nalang ang pumasok sa plenaryo at dahil manok sya madali syang makalusot at makapagtago. Ang ginawa ko binitiwan ko si Manoy sa may red carpet at doon sya nagsimulang maglakad, pero sabi ko magkubli sya kung hindi pag nahuli sya ng mga PSG fried chicken ang labas nya. Humango si Manoy, at nakita ko sumuot sya sa gown ng mga bisita at mga senadora. Nagpalipat-lipat sya sa mga gowns hanggang makapasok sya sa plenaryo.
Naghintay ako sa labas at nanood na lang sa TV monitor. Nakita ko si Drilon sa monitor, at sa inset naman si Jessica Soho. Yung kamera naman ay nag focus kay Juana Change ng party list. Bilib talaga ako sa Triplets an ito, kahit may iba-ibang panananaw ay mga successful. Isa Senador, isa aktibista, at isa ay nasa media.
Nong nagsimula na si PNoy ng kanyang SONA, lahat kami nanood sa monitor at biglang naging tahimik sa lugar namin.

“Alam po ni Vice President, na noong 1987 magkasama kami, may kudeta, na-ambush po tayo doon, at tapos noon eh pangalawang buhay ko na po ito. Hindi natin maiiwasan mag-isip sa mga binubunggo natin, may araw kayang ‘pag sasampa ka sa entablado, may trabaho ring araw–may magtatagumpay bang maglagay ng bomba? Magtatagumpay ba ‘yung mga may maiitim na balak ng atin pong mga katungaling gusto tayong ibalik sa maling kalakaran?”
Narinig ko yung nakabarong na matanda na napamura: “Putang i..ng Binay yan, tratraydorin pa si PNoy, pag nahalal yan gudbay na lang ang sinumulan ng Pangulo!”. “Shusssh…” awat naman ng kanyang Misis.
Noong parteng naging emosyonal si PNoy, napansin ko yung katabi kong matandang babae, kumuha ng panyo at hindi napigilan ang pagluha. Lalo na ng marining yung mga katagang:
“…the Filipino is worth dying for” [Palakpakan], “the Filipino is worth living for,” at idadagdag ko naman po: “The Filipino is definitely worth fighting for.”
Inakbayan sya ng kanyang mister at hinimas ang likod.
Hinintay kong banggitin ni PNoy yung FOI Bill, DAP issue, at kaso ng mga plunderer, pero nabigo ako sa aking akala.
Natapos ang SONA nya at nakita ko ang mga katabi ko na satisfied sila at puno ng pag-asa. Lalong lumakas ang paniniwala nila kay PNoy na dedikado sa paglinis ng ating gobyerno.
Overall, magaling ang mga speechwriters nya, tama yung ginawa nila:
1. Iwas na banggitin ang FOI para huwag na munang mabahala ang mga kaalyado nyang mga Kurap at kailangan pa nyang gamitin ang mga tulong nito
2. Iwas sa DAP issue at huwag na lang ungkatin ang kaso at baka magkamali na naman sya at mapasama pa sa tao, tutal nasa korte suprema na at sabi nya i-rerespeto nya ang anumang desisyon ng korte. Pero mukhang alam na rin ang Teddy Roosevelt policy: Speak softly and carry a big stick-bahala na sila Tupas sa paggisa sa mga Justices.
3. Tahimik na lang sa kaso ng mga plunderer- Tama ito dahil nasa Sandiganbayan na at para huwag lumabas na iniempluensya nya ang mga hurado. Bahala na ang Taong Bayan na sila mismo ang mag tango ng ulo na isa ito sa kanyang pinakamalaking nagawa sa taon na ito na ang kurap ay pwede palang makalaboso.
Pagkatapos ng speech, nakita kong tumatakbo pabalik sa akin si Manoy at pinagpapawisan. Tanong ko kay Manoy, “O kumusta, anong nakita mo sa loob ng plenaryo?”.
Eto ang report ni Manoy (One-eyed na Tandang Texas) sa akin:
Kamuntik na akong makita ng PSG mabuti na lang dumaan si Heart, nasuot ako sa ilalim ng kanyang gown. Nang tumingala ako, naku, hanep! Malulugi ang Victoria’s Secret, ang yaman ni Chiz pero hindi maibili ng panty? Naku, sheeeeet, maki PNoy pala ito, panot din. Kaya naman pala ngiting aso lagi si Chiz araw-araw, wow ikaw na, korteng puso, tambok at 3D pa.
Para makausad, lumipat ako sa gown naman ni Loren. Putsa, daming PDAF saka DAP nito kay Maam Jenny, eh hindi lang naman makabili ng Gillette Venus, kamura non. Pero di ko rin sya masisi makaluma sya, alam naman natin mahilig sa senior citizen (narinig ko ang sakit na ito sabi ni Parekoy “gerontophilia” daw ito) tulad ni Leviste at nitong mga nakaraang taon nga nalink pa sya kay Tandang Angara. Siguro baka pag nakita ako ni Loren baka mabighani rin sya sa akin, kasi Tandang Texas din ako, galing ko pa naman syomapol! Pero may ibang scent dito sa ilalim ng gown nya, amoy lupa o parang pumasok ka sa home for the aged.
Kamuntik na akong matapakan, kaya lipat naman ako kay sa nakaputing gown. Kay Grace pala ito. Holy Mary Mother of God! Nakakasilaw para syang Dyosa, makinis na makinis at maputi na maputi. Naglagi nga sya sa Boston, nakuha nya rin yung ugali ng mga Kana, bald eagle pa naman ang national bird nila. Sorry po Da King, pero talagang Hail Mary talaga ang dating, mestizang mestiza. Ang amoy ng gown nya ay yung pag nagbukas ka ng kahon na padalang package sayo ng kamag-anak mo na galing sa Amerika. Amoy tate. Sorry po talaga Da King, sorry…
Dahil nahiya ako sa sarili ko, hindi naman talaga ako mamboboso, pero dala lang ng pangangailangan na makakubli at hindi mahuli ng PSG. Kaya dali akong lumipat sa kabilang gown na mukhang Air balloon na kulay green, yellow at may pagka blue-green. Ang dilim. Mabuti na lang dala ko ang mini LED flaslight ko at switched on ko ito. Madilim pa rin, pero naa-aninag ko dami ring peklat at may puti spots pero mukhang galis, yikes! Kinakati ako. Nang matuon ang pansin ko sa tuktuk, alam ko nakita ko na ito sa isa sa mga magazines mo Parekoy, uhm, alam ko na yung Ebony Magazine, haneps ang pagka frizzy doon pero ito ay may korte, korteng payong. Yung amoy ng gown pamilyar, naalala ko nong nadaan kami ni Parekoy sa Malibay sa squatter’s area sa iskinita, yung sa may swamp doon, yun! Dahil hinahabol ko ang hininga ko, lumipat ulit ako sa katabing gown.
Pula at mala Filipiniana. Masikip ang gown nya kaya iwas ako sa mga binti nya. Wow parang cyclist, pero maputi tulad nong anak ni Da King. Makinis ang binti at ng tumingala ako, tulad din nong anak ni Da King, malinis din. Pero may nakita akong tatoo. Stretched ko ang aking leeg para makalapit at sa tatoo dahil na-curios ako sa korte. Naku, alam ko na ang lihim ni Pia, White Supremacy member sya. Bakit?, ano ang ebidensya? Swastika ang tattoo nya, may katabi pang SS na tattoo din! Heil Hitler! Yung amoy ng gown parang gas, parang carbon dioxide/monoxide. Putsa pag tumagal ako rito baka mamatay ako. Kailangan lumipat.
Lumipat ako sa orange na gown. Matanda na ang binti, dami ng varicose veins. Pagtingala ko, at last may saplot. Naka T-back. Pero yun thong nya mamahalin, made of platinum netting at mga diamente, parang kay Rihanna. Putsa mukhang bilyonarya eto, narinig ko ang malumanay na boses nya at nakakaantok tulad ng mga hearing nya. Yung amoy ng gown nya, amoy perfume na Channel no. 5. C-5 for short! Super naman maglagay ng pabango parang inubos yung isang bote kaya nahihirapan na rin akong huminga. Makalipat na nga.
Lipat ako sa gown na yellow and black combination. Maputi na yellowish din, mukhang may lahing tsekwa. Narinig ko ang boses, hagikhik nya familyar parang sinapian ng ispiritu ng koleyala at sobrang over-acting. Si Kris ito si Kris. Tumingala ako, nakiuso supporter ni Kuya, kalbo rin! Pero napansin ko may mga nakasulat na tattoo sa tabing kanan at kaliwa, parang love letter. Inilapit ko ang nag-iisa kong mata dahil maliliit ang font. Ayun pala, nakasulat: Alvin 7.5, Robin 7, Phillip 7.3, Joey 9.5, Vic 7.4, James 8.5, Herbert 5. Yung amoy ng gown, para kang nasa gynecologist clinic ng mga may STD. Nuubo ako at nag echo pa. Haneps para akong nasa opera house. Putsa delikado baka mahawa ako rito at hindi umubra ang anti-biotics na pinainom mo lagi akin Parekoy. Kaya lumipat ulit ako.
Napakinggan ko rin si PNoy, may nabanggit nga syang tungkol sa bomba sa entablado, eh ang alam ko daming bomba dito sa SONA nya mga naka-gown pa. Siguro talagang mainit sa labas at para happy si vangie eh kailangan presko.
Parekoy: “Mabuti naman at hindi ka nahuli ng PSG. Mukhang napagod ka, gutom ka na ba?”
Manoy: Hindi nabusog ako sa snack! Nagkataon yung huling nilipatan kong gown na kulay puti, at naka ruffles pa ata, tulle skirt daw tawag doon sabi nong nag-iinterview. Sabi nya “basta, taga Maynila” daw ang gumawa ng gown nya. May puntong Bisaya. Noong nasa loob na ako, napansin ko matanda na yung binti, pero maskulado at mukhang aral sa ballroom dancing. May mga peklat din pero makinis, mukhang nagpa-Belo. Mamahalin din ang sapatos, mukhang imported. Yung amoy ng gown, yung parang amoy moth balls ba yon at may whiff ng tuna? Nang tumingala ako, nako alang panty rin. Mukhang nagdadalaga ito. Kaya lang Old timer din, kaya mukhang di lang naman nakatikim ng gunting sa buong buhay nya ng singit nito. Makapal at may uban din. Pero noong suriin ko, syeeeeeeeeeeet fiesta ito. Tuka ako dito, tuka doon, tuka sa gilid, tuka sa kanan, sa kaliwa, sa taas at baba. Tuka, tuka, at tuka ng tuka! For the businessmen, the message of the SONA was substantive and clear, appealing to the emotions and Aquino was able to connect to ordinary Filipinos as he bared his thoughts.
Businessman Alfredo Yao, president of the country’s largest business organization Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), was caught crying as Aquino choked with emotion as he concluded his speech.

I personally hate the Toby…but that’s probably how it works…praise some, oppose some…especially if one compared ALL the SONAs of PNoy when PNoy clobbered their camp.
However, I’m still not of the same view as the Toby because all the things PNoy had said were just expected of him being the President till 2016.

“As Cheryl and I, together with the political scientists we invited, watched the SONA, I could not help but notice the survey results flashed on the TV screen even before the speech ended. People were sharing their observations even while the President was still speaking. I am sure that surveys done by professionals are reliable due to scientific methodologies used. But I am not sure what survey methodology was employed by TV5. Had the survey results been otherwise that would mean that PNoy had been effectively neutralized by his enemies and transformed into a lame duck president. Meaning that his endorsement of 2016 presidential candidate would be nothing.
Without PNoy in the 2016 equation, Marcos would easily outclass Binay.

Surveys are either scientific or non-scientific. The scientific ones are easily identifiable because they will give you a margin of error based on some statistical algorithms.
If a scientific survey showed that Binay is preferred to be the next President by 55% of the voters, and that Marcos is preferred by 45% of the voters, and the margin of error is (+) or (-)5 points, then it means that Binay and Marcos are statistically tied. It does not mean that Binay has a 10-point lead over Marcos.
Survey results that are not qualified by margins of error are unscientific – they are meaningless because there is no way to interpret, or to extrapolate from, the data accurately. Unscientific surveys are usually done to influence or amuse the public – they can be manipulated easily.
I do believe in surveys – the scientific ones.

thanks for this compilation. as I said in my FB & FB friends’ posts, the las part of hsi SONA was all bout his MORAL CONVICTION AND COURAGE…
He showed strength and courage in his moral conviction that he is following the moral compass he set at the onset of his adminIstration – DAANG MATUWID. It was a great presentaton – starting from when he started, what he inherited and where our country is now, thanks to the cooperation of the Filipino people.
Let us all pray that his speech is not a a premonition of anything.
And yes, he did not mention a specific person to vote after his term. He only posed the question: “Sino ang walang bahid na siguradong magtutuloy ng ating transpormasyon?”

kung ako ang organizer sa event, I would not have given seats and allow them to sit down kung mag-walkout lang naman sila. I would leave them standing by the wall, their seats given to deserving others.

Agree. Emotional appeals as used in literature and speeches are different from the appeal to emotion used in an attempt to win an argument.
Some of the greatest and most remembered speeches in history and literature are emotional appeals. These are speeches that have inspired and lifted the spirits of people in dark times, giving hope in desperate circumstances. They have inspired brave feats and gave courage to the weary, moving them into action.
Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream”, Mark Anthony’s funeral oration in Julius Caesar (Brutus is an honorable man) and Winston Churchill’s “Blood, Sweat and Tears” speech as Prime Minister are some fine speeches that have had immense emotional appeal. These emotional appeals worked and achieved their desired results because those who speak them were seen to be sincere and truthful.

That Luneta incident showed that Dirty Harry tactics was not apt for that. Lim was trying to show hsis mettle, nagpapapogi in the expense of so many lives. Lim should have been held accountable. In the US, there is an easy route like filing a civil case and it will be faster to have justice monetary wise.

So yes, continue your method of presenting your positions, backed up with links which strengthens it. Sometimes you might annoy others, and seems you are pretty successful at it. But I suggest that if we exhausted all our efforts to try defending our positions and we are not successful resolving it, then we need to know when to stop and agree to disagree. I suggest watching the House of Commons in movies or in action will educate usmusing wits in the art of debate. The English might be snobbish, but their delivery of wit is quite remarkable! Sometimes their use of double speak is quite hilarious, so good to listen to but hollow in substance.
Additionally, I suggest to CPMers not to be onion-skinned, it is a negative trait. Remember to try to look at it in the presenter’s point of view. Even punks we wanted to spank outright, might have something to contribut. But they lack the skills to communicate in gentleman’s way, and we think of them as crass and we would like to unleash our wrath as our gut reaction. We should not. We have to give them time to grow, remember that we are here to contribute and to learn. They are also frustrated and just venting, still we have to welcome them to the fold. I think inclusion and diversity of ideas will make this blogsite better. I am looking forward that this site will be an example of showing how we acquire the elusive wisdom, and by law of averages we will have the wisdom of the crowd.

I support your call to respect everyone’s right to speak their minds.But let’s not have double standards here. Why should someone expressing dissatisfaction or even just disagreement with an offensive comment be labelled onion-skinned? And the one dishing it out as needing our patience as they are simply frustrated and venting. To me they are both frustrated and venting. Pabayaan na lang natin pareho.

An uncle of mine wanted to pursue a career in law In fact, he was very motivated to become a defense attorney, up until my father, who is a lawyer, put him into a serious dilemma with some serious ethical questions:
Would you continue to defend a client who, in the course of discovery, admitted to you as his lawyer that he is guilty of the heinous crime that he was being accused of?
And if you would continue as his defense counsel, would you advise him to plead guilty in exchange for a negotiated reduced sentence, or would you fight for his constitutional right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt by a court of law?
How you would answer these questions would best describe who you are.
My uncle struggled to find the answers to these ethical questions so, in the end, he decided to take up medicine.

The criticism that is anchored on legitimate concerns and principles (like yours are) are important not only for purposes of discussion but more importantly to call attention to what needs to fixed or attended to. Parang sakit na nararamdaman natin sa katawan minsan, yung sakit ay indikasyon na merong problemang kailangang tugunan upang maibalik ang maayos na kondisyon ng ating kalusugan.
Pero meron rin naman sakit na dulot ng mga taong walang ibang intensyon kungdi pahinain ang loob ng kalaban. Ito yung mga taong may kakulangang nararamdaman sa kanilang pagkatao o sa kanilang pinanghahahawakang argumento. Nakaka ramdam lamang sila ng pag-angat sa bawat sipa, suntok at tadyak na naidudulot sa kanilang kinakalaban. Pathetic people that one simply has to stay away from or learn to fight back and stand up for oneself.

it’s impossible, in reality, to produce an endless stream of (or maybe even a few), heroes to rule a country.
imo, the constitution anticipated that and smoothed out that problem by having rigorous but reasonable rules. if you have less politicians breaking its laws then you wouldn’t need heroes to come in to correct the problems they create. and the system will have minimal violent up and down cycles which could be pretty devastating.

I don’t think it really mattered what the President said or didn’t say today. I think what mattered was the tone of his voice and the subjective truths that the tone conveyed. Without reading the text of the speech, this is what I heard:

All the President’s accomplishments are just expected of him…(of them, actually…because they chose to lead us in exchange for the votes). He doesn’t need my thanks for that. Of course, it’s premature to oust him and, as I said before, counterproductive. Let his minions take the fall first. (That’s the problem too in the Ugh! 23 Luneta hostage crisis when he saved Alfredo Lim).
Let PNoy finish his so-called reforms. Again, because he became president for that.
What I truly want is a system reboot. Thanks for the PDAF unconstitutionality.
Transparency and accountability in government…samahan mo pa ng ethics…must be had. It’s crunch time for PNoy.
DAP was an unfortunate setback…but it is of their own doing. In Abad’s ruthlessness to succeed, he forgot to faithfully obey the Constitution. His memorandums are the prized possession of his blunder.
This is all about 2016 for me. The WSJ summed up what Abad et al had spawned…
