He also offers government a truce by year-end
By Raïssa Robles
When I interviewed Jose Maria Sison in Utrecht recently, I decided to ask him about his thoughts on present day China and its ownership claim of the South China Sea.
It was my first time to interview Sison, of whom I’d heard a lot about from my late English professor Concepcion Dadufalza. Sison came from the English Department and not from the Political Science Department of the University of the Philippines.
Below is an excerpt of the piece I wrote today for South China Morning Post. I wonder what Beijing thinks of Sison’s statements.
Exiled Philippine communist leader Sison blasts ‘greedy’ China over sea dispute
in Utrecht, the Netherlands
Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Maria Sison has turned on his former benefactor, China, amid the South China Sea territorial dispute between Beijing and Manila.
“China is obviously being greedy, claiming 90 per cent of the South China Sea,” Sison told the South China Morning Post in his office in Utrecht, the Netherlands, 43 years after his fledgling rebellion was secretly sent weapons and cash by China’s late leader, Mao Zedong.
Sison called China’s territorial claims “foolish” and “false” and added that “it would be like India claiming the whole of the Indian Ocean or Mexico claiming all or most of the Gulf of Mexico.”

Sison offers a truce
Eight hours into the interview, when we were both slightly groggy from the lateness of the hour, Sison told me he was willing to forge a truce with the government before the New Year and maybe even sign an agreement on political and social reforms.
I asked the founding chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) how this would be doable when President Benigno Aquino was about to step down from the presidency. He said he and former President Fidel Ramos did it before the latter stepped down in 1998 just by communicating through the fax machine and the telephone.
This should be easier to do now with digital technology, he said.
He also mentioned in passing that NPA rebels could later turn into forest guards and corporate guards to give them a means of livelihood.
And so, I wrote the story below regarding his offer.
Just a backdrop on this issue. When I interviewed President Aquino one-on-one three months ago, I asked him about the peace negotiations with the CPP-National Democratic Front-New People’s Army. Here is that portion of my interview with President Aquino:
Raissa Robles: I was also told that the reason why the negotiations with the left could not get quite get off the ground was because of what they did—what the left did during the time that your mother was dying, they paraded a coffin outside your home. Is that really a consideration why negotiations with the left?
PRESIDENT AQUINO: No.
Raissa Robles: No? And you don’t feel bad, I mean, you don’t take it against them?
PRESIDENT AQUINO: Again, I really believe I sincerely dialogue with anybody so long as the other party also wants a really dialogue. But, we were exploring that special track that was proposed by Jose Maria Sison. They left the negotiations—the informal track and the formal track. Now, they say they are ready for it again. I think they have to demonstrate sincerity first.
Raissa Robles: I see. So there is a chance that negotiations can resume?
PRESIDENT AQUINO: I’m having a briefing on that this afternoon.
I guess it is not only INC..?

Is there an omen, a segno/sign coming into the 2016 elections?
There could be. . . the INC will generate a deluge of protests by it’s high and low members by reason of corruption in INC management.
[ Isaias Samson Samson, Jr., expelled minister of Iglesia who was the Editor-in-Chief of ‘Pasugo’]
Will this affect the INC’s ‘block voting’ power? Yes. Surely it will to the extent that that power will not be there anymore in May 2016.
The Message for all Iglesia members is: Don’t Let Your Fear Reign !
I am for people especially the poor for their religiosity, because all religion teach some form of attitude which make for a civilized society. My criticism is with the leaders — no religion excepted — who usually are the first to abuse their religion.
If only to end the usually unspoken or whispered practice of INC in contributing to the corruption of the Philippine political system, I am all for schism or splitting of the INC to as many divisions as possible to end its big influence in the corruption of our political system.
How right you are! Schism in religion took place a long time ago. Money and corruption were two of the reasons among the many.
It probably started with Judas who pretensiously addressed his remarks to. . . Mary Magdalene who was wiping the Lord’s feet with a very costly perfume! Sayang! Sabi ni Judas. Mahal yun!
From then on, many disciples got materialistic instead of being holistic. he he
In the political field there were only a two-party system. Now multi-party is the norm. The politicos thought of schism or splitting up. Still many are materialistic. Never real polistic! he he
The Catholic Church is wary too in this INK/INC corruption issue. If cracks up INK/INC to pieces, The C.C. will again be next. Kung sa ‘size’ Nanay na ELEPANTE ‘to!
INK/INC members are made to listen/swallow what is told to them by their ministers acc to the Bible. So, their minds are ‘closed’ for any other understanding. Not anymore with the Catholics.
INK/INC members are further made to believe that ‘outside’ of their SECT, there is no salvation. In the Catholic Church, nobody probably believes this anymore. Inside or outside, many will have salvation.
Corruption, no doubt, exists in all religious institutions. Money is one root cause. Cannot be helped. Acc to JOMA ‘it’s all greedy, false and foolish!’
leona, maybe it’s hard for ordinary INC members to speak up. they are probably kept in the dark, out of loop and not privy to confidential information, allowed only to see the good side of their leaders, never the bad side.
I’m hoping higher ranking INCs will break rank and speak up. they’re the ones who really knew what is going on.
IMPACT OF THE PRESIDENT’S ENDORSEMENT
Since unlike Gloria Arroyo — whose trust rating was negative when she endorsed Gilberto Teodoro to the Presidency in the 2010 Election — the endorsement of President Aquino whose trust rating in the recent survey (per SWS) has bounced back to “good” territory, one may fairly assume that the positive impact to the endorsee will be either nil, minimal, moderate or strong.
Commentaries in the media including those from the TV talking heads vary on their assessment of the endorsement impact.
I believe that at least to the netizens the postive impact ranges between minimal to moderate. I CORRELATE this view to the result of an interesting online survey made by Inquirer, with the question,
Do you think Grace Poe should run for President even without Aquino’s blessing?
The result as of 2015-07-26 11:28 AM:
A. Yes 45.1% (12,030 votes)
B. No 54.9% (14, 845 votes)
Total votes 26,875
EXPLANATION. The question presented online could have referred to Mar Roxas instead of Grace Poe as surveyed. Nevertheless, if there is no impact — to the perception of the netizens at least — why should the answer to the question posed result in a majority NO? (Or my coffee is not doing its job on a leisurely Sunday.)
Additional note: if the netizens surveyed represents a random set of the totality of netizens, then the error in the survey result above is about 0.6%
who needs aquino when she has chiz? if grace runs independent , she is already famous and probably will not need that much money in campaigning. all she has to do is crook her little finger and adoring people dagsa to her, kissing the ground she walks on. all over the country, airline companies will probably give her free trips in return for her endorsement. same with hotels and accommodations – all free! there is gold mine if grace knows how to dig.
I wish grace would run independent and see for herself how well loved, or hated, she really is.
good advice, @moonie.

WHO WILL STOP CHINA’S AGRESSION IN THE PACIFIC?
“The top U.S. military officer in the Pacific sternly warned China on Friday to immediately cease its “aggressive coercive island building” in the South China Sea, which he argued was intended clearly for China’s military use as forward operating bases in combat against their regional neighbors.”
“Adm. Harry Harris, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, said the U.S. would use military force to defend its interests and its allies against any threats from the islands. “I believe those facilities are clearly military in nature,” Harris said at the Aspen Security Forum, an annual gathering in Colorado of dozens of top U.S. national security leaders, convened by the Aspen Institute.”
“”“They are building ports that are deep enough to host warships and they’re building a 10,000-foot runway at Fiery Cross Reef,” Harris said, referring to one of China’s construction activities in the Spratly Islands that Japan has protested. “A 10,000-foot runaway is large enough to take a B-52, almost large enough for the Space Shuttle, and 3,000 feet longer than you need to take off a 747. So, there’s no small airplane that requires a runway of that length. They’re building rebutted aircraft hangers at some of the facilities there that are clearly designed, in my view, to host tactical fighter aircraft.””

The U.S. will not allow China to control the West Philippine Sea. I’ve been saying this that it is not about the Philippines being an ally but it’s purely in their interest to remain that sea lanes open. This issue will be a hot topic for debate in 2016 presidential elections. Take your pick.
Thanks to PNoy for involving the United Nations (UN) so the US and its allies can easily do their job in case that a military intervention is needed to bring most of the islands back to the Philippines. I just wish that we avoid a shooting war because our country is so weak to defend our shores.
to ensure safety at sea, I’ve read somewhere that USA may resort to escorting our troop carrying supply to those stationed at rusty old ship sierra madre. maybe, also to ensure that our troop as well as the chinese coast guard will not exchange military fire. no unnecessary loss of human life.

China with all its propaganda is a paper dragon militarily compared to the US. Marami pa silang kakaining bigas but they can sure sting the Americans. Will China do that? Of course not unless they want to go back to stone age. Worst, change their govt political system and divide China into small countries by its conquerors.
Practically, only the might of the US Armed Forces can stop China militarily.
Chinese leaders knows that with it’s 2+ million PLA soldiers cannot safely swim in the sea waters with [let’s say about 5000 great White sharks are there waiting] guarantee.
The naval battle at South China Sea between the US Navy and Red Chinese Navy will put an ocean shame on Red China.

NP AND NPC DEBUNK EARLIER CLAIM OF AGGABAO OF NP AND NPC SUPPORT FOR POE-ESCUDERO TANDEM
The Philippine Star — Alan Peter as Mar VP? Feelers sent (July 25, 2015 – 12:00am)
Aside from elaborating on the news as indicated by the title of the article above, what struck my curiosity/ interest are the following excerpts:
Villar’s wife Cynthia had debunked claims by Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao, president of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), that there were ongoing talks with the NP to support the tandem of Poe and Escudero.
The senator said the news came as a surprise to her and her husband after Aggabao was reported as saying that support for the Poe-Escudero tandem was gathering steam at the NP and NPC.
Batangas Rep. Mark Llandro Mendoza, NPC secretary general, clarified their party has not decided on the presidential and vice presidential aspirants it would support.
(Mendoza added …) “The only thing that is clear and well established at this point is our unwavering support to this government and its efforts towards good and honest governance, and that we will only select candidates whom we believe would best represent the aspirations of our people while advocating a dedicated and transparent governance,” he said.
He said the NPC is not leaving the Liberal Party-led administration coalition.
“It is important that during these times of raised political noise, we send a clear message that there is no breaking away from the coalition,” he added.
Local NPC leaders also denied entering into an alliance with the NP to support the tandem of Poe and Escudero.
CONTINUING WITH MY COMMENT:
In my opinion the poisonous nature of the Poe-Escudero tandem — orchestrated by the Trapo Extraordinaire of Noybi fame, Escudero, who is riding on the meteoric rise of Poe’s popularity — caused both the NP and NPC to debunk the earlier claim of Aggabao that NP and NPC are supporting Poe-Escudero. Even Osmena in an earlier statement distanced himself from Poe, caused no doubt, in my opinion, by Escudero’s interference. Osmena was an advisor of Poe in the 2010 Senatorial bid.
osmena is probably thinking now that grace changes advisors as often as she changes her kamisa.

just a picture.
Is it divine intervention that incidents of abductions seems to be the catalyst that exposed the alleged massive corruption of powerful people in the highest echelon of our society?
Does it require divine intervention to highlight once more that money is the root of most evil?
The abduction of Benhur Luy was the catalyst that exposed the massive PDAP scam allegedly masterminded by Janet Lim Napoles.
Will the alleged abduction of some INC ministers be the catalyst that will pull down the curtain shielding the secretive Iglesia ni Cristo?

I hope that INC leadership practice their own teachings and STAY AWAY from politics. STAY AWAY from politicians. They can deny all they want about BLOCK VOTING pero sino ang niloloko nila?

Money and power, truly can make a man ambitious and change your intentions.
The INC leadership should go back to the early teachings of Ka Felix. Be more transparent and AVOID POLITICS & the POLITICIANS.

I saw in bandila news sabi, INC is apparently selling block votes to politicians. those politicians that cannot afford exuberant fees dont get endorsed. and those that pay for endorsement, still risk being upstaged by other politicians if higher fee is paid. pataasan pala ng bayad. corrupt pala at napaka ang simbahang ito.
Vhin AB says
maybe no longer tsismis for there is hard evidence: bandila news reporter has sighted letters written by a mayor to INC, questioning lack of endorsement, and INC’s answer to said letters. money was mentioned, apparently.

LGUs will now be very careful in inviting Binay as guest speaker.
Fire hits Tayabas City a few days after Binay was invited as the LGU’s guest speaker at the 200th birth anniversary of Quezon hero Apolinario de la Cruz, known as “Hermano Pule.”
The LGUs don’t have much choice Rene, the Binay himself invited his self.
Binay was invited for the magic show/intermission as per Deo Virtucio, Inquirer commenter, below:
Junjun Binay & his Dad (VP Binay) entered a chocolate store. As they were busy looking, Junjun stole 3 chocolate bars from the shop.
As they left the store, Junjun said to VP Binay “Hey Dad! I’m the best thief ever, I stole 3 chocolates & no one saw me, can you beat that!”
VP Binay replied: “You wanna see something better, let’s go back to the shop and I’ll show you what is real stealing.”
So they went to the counter and VP Binay said to the shop boy : “Do you wanna see magic?”
Shop boy replied: “Yes.”
VP Binay said: “Give me one chocolate bar.”
The shop boy gave him one, and he ate it. He asked for the second, and he ate that as well. He asked for the third, and finished that one too.
The shop boy asked: “But where’s the magic?”
VP Binay replied: “Check in my son Junjun pockets, and you’ll find the chocolates

Iglesia ni Kristo – A monster in the making!
INC for Binay dati noong 2010?
WADAPAK! Hanefs sa crisis management!
SI Ministro Lowell Robasa Menorca II naman eh nakadetin sa Cavite. Ang Palusot naman ni Supt. Joseph Arguelles, the city chief, eh nahulihan daw ng 2 granada pero bakit binitbit from Bicol papuntang Cavite? Hanefs parang sine!
Totoo yan!
Kudos to ‘Antonio Ebangelista’ for his blog that unravelled this secretive cult but powerful organization that has national implications through their influence in the outcome of our elections and the quid-pro-quo that placed their members in evey nook of our government perpetuating and nurturing their unrivalled power!

mamasa-kristo, we are all stunned. palagay ko’y stunned din ang mga politiko and could not believe what the hell is happening. they dont know what to say, or do, talagang unprecedented ito. who would believe INC would air their very dirty linen not only in public but also in prime time t.v. walang preno, walang delikadeza, help me, help me, help me, ika. they were expecting us to help them, in what way for godssake! duck tape their mouths? he, he, he, take away all their goldbars for safekeeping?
I was expecting china to blow in our faces, only INC beat them to it.

That’s a good observation. I wonder who can make a list of INC members in juicy positions right now. But as I’ve said that it’s part of INC’s political strategy as they are known for block voting and repercussions are coming.
Damage has been done now that the Manalo’s are involved. It will take decades and apolitical leadership to bring back the respect of the people.

Kung tutuusin ay wala sana tayong pakialam sa Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) dahil a religion is more personal in nature. Mike Velarde or si Bro.
@Vhin AB kasapi ka ba sa dating daan or matuwad na daan? hinde mo kasi sinali to the above….hehehe peace!
