Five vice-presidential candidates, including Sen. Bongbong Marcos, now have my book

I know because I personally delivered copies of my book Marcos Martial Law: Never Again to the offices of the following candidates for the vice-presidency:

Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano

Senator Gregorio Honasan

Senator Antonio Trillanes III

I did this Monday morning, just before my book launching in Balay Kalinaw, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

The only candidate to whom I have not given a copy is Congresswoman Leni Robredo. That is because I did not want to be late for my book launching.

But I will bring a copy of my book to her soon.

Each book was accompanied by a letter I wrote specifically for each senator, that was stamped “received” by each of the senators’ offices.

This morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find the Chief-of-Staff of Senator Trillanes acknowledging receipt of my book. Rolando T. Averilla sent me the following letter-reply:

I had written the following letter to Senator Trillanes:

Dear Senator Trillanes,

I would be very honored if you will accept a copy of my newly-published book, Marcos Martial Law: Never Again.

The topic of Martial Law has come up as one of the hot button issues in this election and as a former navy officer you might find the topic interesting.

        • Meron bang police incident report mga yun? May corroborating witness? If there is no police report or incident report, it is never verifiable and ergo, it never happened. Who knows if yun mga interviewee ay gumawa lang ng kwento just to spite Mr. Marcos? So what proof are you talking about? Upon assumption of her revolutionary government, why didn’t quo rhee got all those incident reports from all military and police units so she should have all those persons directly involved in such incidents be charged and indicted instead of making a sweeping generalization that those were done by Mr. Marcos? If that were the logic, we can blame beneegno for the Kidapawan Massacre or even the Mamasapano Tragedy?

          For example, I know what happened with Eman or with Edjop but our info during those years came from word of mouth or from reading Ang Bayan. Which military unit were involved? We do not know because quo rhee never required the military to produce all those reports. In a court of law, pag wala dokumento ng pangyayari, it is deemed as hearsay – in street parlance, tsismis.

Unfortunately, the source of the data of your patrons, yellow propagandists and academically-challenged writers contradict the very same conclusions you want your compilation to prove. A scientific approach starts without any conclusion and makes a research to find the truth but in your case, you already have an agenda and a pre-conceived notion at the start and you just want snippets of data cut-and-past and compiled to support the agenda – and you now call that a book and wants everybody to believe that it is a result of scientific research and academic masturbation. Isn’t that a form of academic dishonesty? Maybe, the balance left of the grant, after deducting for house bills and utilities, can not afford a more thorough investigation?

        • Was the family of benigno sensitive to the families of the victims of the plaza miranda bombing or even to the families of those killed in the Kidapawan Carnage? Were they even sensitive to the family of the priest and all those who were murdered because they were about to testify in Congress viz the Hacienda Luisita killings?

          Talk about sensitivity to those people in government who has been keeping in various banks all those donations from foreign sources that were supposed to have been allocated for the Yolanda victims but who are instead pocketing interests earnings therefrom.

        DAVAO CITY — Eight of 10 Chinese nationals arrested last Jan. 1, a day after a shabu laboratory was busted here, were freed last Tuesday afternoon, thanks to Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who facilitated their release.

        “It is in the spirit of the Chinese New Year and for humanitarian reasons that I am seeking their release,” Duterte said.

        He said some of the detainees are either too young or too old to be deprived of their liberty.

        Duterte said investigation has cleared the eight Chinese nationals, including the parents of alleged shabu lab financier Allan Sy, of any involvement in the illegal drug manufacturing.

        “They have nothing to do with illegal drugs. The only mistake of some of them was that they may have violated immigration laws in connection with their stay here,” the mayor said.

        Duterte, however, said the eight still have to comply with the necessary requirements and pay the corresponding fees with the immigration bureau should they wish to extend their stay in the country.

        The eight were among the 10 foreigners who were rounded up in the row of apartments in Bo. Obrero here where Sy and his family are also residing.

        • The only way to prevent a “Vice President Robredo under a Duterte administration” is for a presidentiable other than Duterte to get elected as next leader of the incoming administration. Yes, Roxas is the one hoped for by Robredo.

          Please understand the judicial process. The suspects were all under arrest for alleged illegal drug operation and had undergone investigation by the police. The SOP is for the police to book them and bring to the public prosecutor for inquest if evidence warrants. The prosecutor may charge them in court or release for further investigation. The police may also release the suspects if investigation does not result to adequate evidence for inquest.

          In both instances the Mayor had no participation except to facilitate the release made by the police or prosecutor to prevent injustice to the young and the elderly.

        • No. He is a plain good leader to me which Is dearly lacking in other presidential candidates. More importantly, I am an advocate of federalism since the day I understood the concept of delegation, decentralisation, devolution and federalism more than three decades ago vis-a-vis the Philippine milieu.

        • sorry po, mali yata yan to say the mayor has no participation when in fact he was the facilitator and played a very important part. if not the central part of the release.

        • That’s why I found it weird that Rene claimed that the mayor had no participation and yet facilitated the release. I’m genuinely curious as to how he found that out and how it was implemented as to reflect the seemingly contradictory conditions he has stated.

        • Moonie, did I not say that Duterte facilitated the release. I meant the positive aspect. But it seems that you prefer the negative side.

          The mayor is not part of the judicial process. His participation was only to ensure the release of the young and elderly without necessary delay. That is due process. Those people were merely suspects at the onset. They were never the accused in a criminal complaint.

          You’ve gotten away with posts with ambiguous morals and even faultier logic.

          It seemed that people were letting you get away with it because you’ve wrapped yourself with the cloak of moral turpitude and legalese. But lately, people have become more willing to call you out as plain wrong or at least post bolder counter points. Maybe they’ve figured out that there’s something rotten beneath that veil of yours.

        • @TOTONG. Wow! Halos mapaiyak ako sa katotohanan ng mga pingagsasabi mo. Parang sinampal mo na ang lahat ng nagtu-tulog-tulugan na mga kapwa mong CPMers. Meron iilan-ilang dito na wari ba’y napakahalaga at very influencing ang pinagsasabi dahil dati naman, maganda ang kanilang mga kuro-kuro. Meron naman siguro tayong sariling pag-iisip. at alam natin ang tama sa mali. Tayong mga taga-RORO ay hindi nila kayang i-influence sa kanilang gusto. at sana’y matuwa ka dahil kahit papaano, majority dito sa Cyber Plaza ay kinikilala pa rin kung sino ang karapat-dapat para sa ating bansa at kung sino ang karapat-dapat ay siya iyong ating dapat suportahan. I remember when my brother who was reviewing his medicine board exams, indicated his fear of taking the board exam because he was afraid to fail so he kept reviewing and reviewing. I told him that if he doesn’t take his exam, he has no chance of passing it. he then took the board exam and passed. the same way with Roxas. They keep on telling us from day one, he is not going to win, he has no charisma but many of us see that he is the most qualified and in our hearts, many of us want him to win. if we don’t stop listening to these doom sayers, throw in the towel and vote for Poe or Duterte instead, then Roxas will not win. These doom sayers are not going to stop to drop Roxas. Sabihin na lang natin, doon sila maligaya.

        • Napakagaling po nilang magtwist. ng pangyayari busy sila na siraan si Mar Roxas sa pamamagitan ng isama siya sa kasalanan ng ibang tao, ang sample po ay kay Purisima kay Abaya. Pati nga po Bagyo at pagbaha, trapik at giyera sa kanya isisise. Parehas po kasi ng ugali ni Pangulong Aquino di sila nagmumura at walang salirang kalye. Dapat ito ang ugali na matularan ng ating mga anak at ng mga kabataan, hindi iyung style sanggano. Kung si Mar Roxas po ay may graft and corruption siguro po ay noon pa sya sisiraan tungkol dito. Dahil walang maibato pati kilos at galaw ng tao pakikialaman.

        Let the process of the law take its course with no facilitation from politicians. Ganyan ba yung magiging new normal sa Duterte presidency?

        • BFD, talagang magkaiba ang ating pananaw. Ang nakita ko ay positive side in Duterte. Compassion sa bata at matanda. Hindi puro tapang at tigas. Sa mga taong mahina tulad ng bata at matanda na walang muang ay malambot ang puso. Ganyan ang lider na gusto ko. Yung iba na involved sa drug manufacturing ay napatay? Bakit naman idadamay pati mga walang muang ayon sa imbestigasyon ng pulis at prosecutor.

          Nasa itaas nito ang paliwang ko sa iyo. Tungkol naman sa LNB ay nais ni Duterte na magkaisa lahat ng Pilipino. Tagalog, Bisaya, Ilocano, Waray, etc. At isa pa ay walang labag sa batas dito. At ang LNB ay libingan na rin ngayon ng mga magnanakaw na tulad ni Marcos. At may mga tunay na bayani tulad ni Ninoy ay hindi sa LNB nakalibing. Iilan na Lang ang naniniwala na ang LNB ay libingan ng tunay na bayani.

          I believe that Roxas is a good man. But he is not and could not be a strong leader. He played second fiddle and is still hanging in the coattail of Pnoy up to now despite Mamasapano, Poe, Purisima, Binay, Kris, etc.

        Ive been a rabid (avid) follower of Ms Raissa’s because of u guys..your deep analysis of the issues. I seldom write comments because, i thought, my thoughts were already part of yours..So I just read along.

        When Pnoy beame president of the republic, i was 1 of u guys: so jubilant, happy,smiling..for reason that, at last, the Phl could break the bondage of corruptions, drug syndicates, crimes, and many more…

        Well, pnoy’s term is near to end. did we see the end of these menace???
        Though thru Pnoy, the country made some progress with his Tuwid na daan. but still we can see of pnoy’s weaknesses. Lots of them.

        Of the 5 aspiring presidential bets, it seemed, in this blog, majority of commenters are in favor of RoRo.

        Initially, makaMarLen ako, prior to du30. I thought Binay can’t make it due to his corruption allegations. Totoo naman eh. Even if he giveaway 2k to each voter (the least), people, im sure, will take the money, and vote du30.
        Then came those issues on Mar. His staunch financial supporters/backers. these issues can be found in our respected newspapers and columnists, along with other reliable sources.

        I am one of those mamayan na gusto na talaga mgkaroon ng RADICAL CHANGE sa ating bansa. with those crimes and drugs flooding the country, left & right corruptions, oppression of our mamayan, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc…People want CHANGE. oh my goodness!!!

        I dont know guys if you have watch those massive huge rally with du30&cayetano on YOUTUBE. OH MY!! ! these rallies cant be seen on national TVs. Was able to see & watch all of these in fb, in social media.

        Multitude of different walks of life of Filipinos, with enthusiasm and interest, came to the rallies, hindi hinahakot, witnessed and listen the good mayor spoke..they listened so attentively…There was one rally i cant hold my tears as i watched thru my laptop. so inspiring.

        People see du30 as the true leader who can change the system of philippine governance. Sawang-sawa na sila, ako, of same old same old systems…

        And everyday, ive been lurking thru fb, Raissa’s blog, inq.net, etc..to see & feel whats going on in the phl.

So those aremikans are just laughing their hearts out when they humored those computerized senators with their patriotic posture. With or without the senate vote, aalis talaga sila. Altho there exists the Barangay before the Spanish period, the institution of the Barangay as part of our present political milieu is a legacy that Mr. Marcos will always be remembered for.

        • Rolly? Well, what I know is that he organized banking of certain assets for Security Bank. I don’t even know if he organized those for Finanzierung. He was not yet around when Mr. Marcos opened the account in the late 60s when excess campaign funds were deposited with Credit Suisse. Surely, most of the other assets are unknown to him especially those coming from Heritage Funds and sale of gold obtained before the 70s.

          By the way, you should know that in the Philippines, anyone can claim anything in their affidavits. So many have been convicted due to affidavits executed by naughty guys. In fact, so many affidavits have been executed in the hope of convicting Jojo.

It would seem that the Department of Education had been remiss in exercising proper quality control over the textbooks our children are reading. Such blatant bias, let alone factual errors, has no place in our children’s school textbooks.

    If that was in fact the kind of quality control we had on our school textbooks 10 years ago, then I’m not surprised that today’s young Filipinos had it ingrained in their minds that the years of the Marcos dictatorship were “golden years.” Some now even apparently believe that Marcos was our best president ever. That image, imprinted firmly in the minds of millions of young Filipinos because that’s what they gathered from their high school history books, will be impossible to change in the course of a national election campaign.”

    On the issue pointed out by the above article, please allow me to paraphrase Edmund Burke’s famous quote:
