Duterte told the same “rape joke” last January – watch video

USE THIS - 2016 Elections UPDATES June 8-15Rodrigo Duterte’s “rape” joke about the slain female Australian missionary seems to be a staple in his presidential  campaign to make the audience laugh.

In this video, which another concerned tipster told me about – thank heavens for crowd-sourcing – Duterte made the same joke but to a smaller audience. It elicited the same laughter.

And why is it that in all the news reports that came out over that hostage-taking incident at that time it had happened, not one of them mentioned the heroic role played by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte? Nor did they interview Mayor Rodrigo Duterte? Where was he at that time?

Someone uploaded this video of a Mar Roxas rally. It showed the emcee working the crowd and telling them they won’t get envelopes if they don’t chant. It’s not clear, though, what the envelopes contained and who the crowd consisted of. I wish someone would point me to the ENTIRE video.

    It wasn’t until the conclusion of the second exchange of fire—the first and only assault on the compound—when the soldiers prevailed, killing all of the hostage-takers in their wake. Only then did they clear the way for the safe retrieval of bodies, and only then was the Australian’s body was recovered. A photo exists and appears to support this: of a member of the responding troops, walking over the still unretrieved body of Hamill.

    Moreover, to take the mayor’s account of events at face value would put the leading negotiators and commanding officers in an awkward position. By the sounds of Duterte’s aggrieved hero narrative, the soldiers were forced into the assault, perhaps prematurely, by him…

    According to most of these reports, Mayor Duterte could not have lifted the covers off the body of Hamill until after the assault.

    And yet Mayor Duterte says differently…

    As I write this, versions of the story have started to surface. It is not only for the mayor to address them—to his credit, he implored members of the media to check their archives—but for the other personalities from the government’s side who were involved in the resolution of the incident to help settle some of the glaring inconsistencies.

    MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Army Col. Mike Logico has debunked Duterte’s claim that he was the one who killed all the 16 hostage takers in the infamous 1989 Davao City Prison hostage drama.

    Mayor Duterte has claimed in an interview in Bacolod that he emptied a single magazine of his Uzi and killed all 16 rapists of Jacqueline Hamill.

    But Col. Logico has posted on his facebook wall that it was Col. Franco Calida who spearheaded the operation and that there was no Mayor Duterte who participated in the negotiation nor in the shootout citing news articles written in 1989:

    “Meet LTC FRANCO CALIDA PC, the hero behind the Davao City Prison hostage drama.

    These three archived articles were written within the 3rd week of August 1989. They are about as close as you can get to any article written on the incident. All articles point to the man in the picture as the officer in charge of the operations. Conspicuously missing from the three narratives is the name of a certain public official who claims to have been there, negotiating with the hostage takers, and getting involved in the shootout. Now I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but this is something the media would mention at the very least don’t you think? I invite you to do your own research. Prove these articles wrong. Or maybe ask Hagonoy Mayor Franco Calida himself. He’s 2 hours away from Davao.”

    “This is not a question of wether the mayor was involved or not.”

    Do you understand Raissa’s article? The title – “Duterte told the same “rape joke” last January – watch video” – speaks for itself. Raissa wants to inform that Duterte made the same joke not once but twice. There is no issue here because the Duterte camp admits it.

    Next is that Raissa posited a query.

    “And why is it that in all the news reports that came out over that hostage-taking incident at that time it had happened, not one of them mentioned the heroic role played by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte? Nor did they interview Mayor Rodrigo Duterte? Where was he at that time?”

    The issue here is whether Duterte was really involved in the hostage-taking incident because none was said in the papers then according to Raissa. It is not whether he uttered a rape joke or not. It is whether Duterte lied or not when he said twice that he participated in the killing of the hostage-takers. And AM said that Duterte was lying without laying his basis. So I asked him about his basis. Meanwhile, I convincingly proved that Duterte was really involved.

    AM insisted that Duterte lied when Duterte said that he uttered his remarks about the rape victim in anger and that it was not a joke. So AM brought an issue outside the ambit of Raissa’s article. I pointed out that it is not the issue.

    Now, you insist on the issue of whether it was a joke or an angry remark. I will oblige to answer you.

    I could not affirm nor deny that Duterte uttered subject remarks in anger or as a joke. It is a state of mind that could be discerned only by overt acts. Unfortunately, I was not present when Duterte utterred said remarks. I could not determine it also by merely looking or listening on the video. If you believe that Duterte was really joking, that’s your own opinion. But please don’t ram it through my throat. It would be cruel and mean. Besides I am also entitled to my own opinion.

    And I firmly believe that Duterte would win by a landslide in the coming elections.

        MANILA – A psychological assessment of Davao City Mayor and presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte more than 15 years ago shows he has an “Antisocial Narcissistic Personality Disorder” or extreme self-conceit. The assessment became the basis for the civil annulment of his marriage to first wife Elizabeth Zimmerman.

        Because of this personality disorder, the report said Duterte tends to humiliate other people or violate their rights.

        An analysis of his personality, conducted in the year 2000, also showed that the mayor has difficulty controlling his emotions.

        “For all his wrongdoings, he tends to rationalize and feel justified. Hence, he seldom feels a sense if guilt or remorse,” the assessment said.

  9. Duterte’s napilitan na apology, general

    Grabe ang problema ng mga campaign strategists ni Duterte. Nagpuyat sila kung papano ang gagawin na damage control.

    Many versions of statements were made. Gusto ni Cayetano at ni Pimentel eh outright sa language na humingi si Duterte sa pamilya ni Jacqueline Hamill, kaso ayaw ni Duterte. So try nila humingi ng paumanhin sa Gabriela at mga kababaihan si Duterte, kaso ayaw na naman ni Duterte dahil wala daw talaga syang kasalanan sa Gabriela at mga kababaihan. So ang napagkasunduan eh yung vague na apology, meaning In General.

    So para siguradong di papalpak na naman si Duterte, eh pinapraktis na magbasa ng statement, at sinubukan naman ni Duterte. Kaso talagang halatang peke, at pagod na rin si Duterte at mainit pa ang ulo. Di na raw sya hihingi ng apology kung verbal.

    Para matuloy na ang damage control, eh ang napagkasunduan ay Statement na lang ang ibibigay sa media at hindi si Duterte ang magbabasa. Eto ang tinatawag na trickle apology.  Bale yung unang statement eh para mailabas sa news na humingi na ng paumanhin si Duterte, at maging trial balloon para makita muna ang feedback ng publiko. 

    Trickle Apology

    A. Ang main purpose nito ay para hwag lumipat ang mga supporters ni Duterte na hiyang-hiya sa kanilang sarili dahil alam nilang mali si Duterte at ang hirap depensahan. Malaking insulto sa kanila na  feeling talaga nila ay nagoyo sila ni Duterte.. 

    B. Ang second purpose eh para sa mga campaign financiers ni Duterte na invested na at sabi eh di na magbibigay ng karagdagang pera sa homestretch pag di nag-apologize si Duterte, kasi mahirap ng manalo.

     Para sa kaalaman ng hindi aral sa kampanya, ang 50% ng campaign budget eh sa last two weeks ng kampanya ginagastos- bombarding Advertisements, bayad sa mga kolumnista sa prints, mga komentarista sa TV at Radyo, advertorials sa mga newspapers at tabloids, bilihan ng mga supporta sa barangay level, at mga special ops. Crucial yan sa isang kandidato, kaya napilitan si Duterte na pumayag na humingi ng paumanhin, kasi kung si Duterte lang eh kung ayaw daw magbigay ng pera ng mga financiers eh di wag, basta bahala na ang botante. Pero napahupa ni Sarah si Daddy nya at napapayag na statement muna, at kung kagatin ng publiko eh kahit deadma na lang at di na verbal apology.

    Eto ang nga talking points:

    1. Ang isang importanteng component ng apology ni Duterte eh yung palusot nya na galit lang sya dahil daw sa mga napatay na victima.

    2. second component eh ang pangakong proprotektahan ang mga kababaihan at mga kabataan para pampalubag loob sa mga kababaihan. 

    3. Ang pangatlo eh ang tinatawag na counterpunch. Ito yung tititrahin nya ang mga katunggaling lalake lang at banatan si Binay at si Roxas. Spared muna si Poe para hwag syang lumabas na marahas sa babae.

    4. Di na lalabanan ni Duterte ang CBCP at ang Australian Embassy. 

    Ang follow-up

    1. Bale yung mga loyal Duterte Netizens ay gagamitin sa gagawing charm offensive na okay na raw at humingi na ng tawad si Duterte. Tapos may pahabol pang advice kuno kay Duterte na huwag ng ulitin ni Duterte at bawasan na ang pagmumura. Bale gagamitin itong ebidensya ng mga paid reporters para lumabas na ganon ang trend sa facebook at twitter.

    2. Gamit ng special team ala-Sepulveda, o yung computer team na ang concentration ay gumawa ng fake accounts sa facebook at twitter pati na disqus at karamihan ay babae ang profile eh sasabihin na ang katagang ito, 

    Humingi na ng tawad si Duterte, we need to move on. Pag-usapan natin ang pagsugpo ng krimenat droga.

    Pero kung di successful, eh hihingi na ng sorry si Duterte sa pamilya ni Jacqueline Hamill, at may stunt pa na pupunta si Duterte sa Australian Embassy!

    Abangan ang palusotan!

  10. I think I now understand what happened to Dutz at the aftermath of bungled hostage taking.

    I would expect the body of that woman to be placed in a gurney or table (about 900mm height just below Dutz waist) and covered in white sheet. As Dutz uncovers her face, his distance from the her face would be: head – 500mm; heart – 300mm; while his <*<& is just about 100mm so its response was the fastest.

    Although no explanation will make his comments or joke acceptable to any decent human 27 years after her death.

        Be surprised if I don’t surprise you.

        You know that I don’t beleive on the manufactured surveys. Granting that you think it is legit, you might be forgetting that tye date the survey was conducted was pre- I wanna rapae Jacqueline Hamill first. Sayang. political suicide., thus the timing of release is to prop Duterte’s waning popular support.

        My advice to CPM Duterte supporters, there is a way to minimize the shame brought to you by being assoviated with Duterte’s kahayupan. This is how:

        1. State that you don’t condone Duterte’s sick mind of having thoughts of raping the Australian rape and murder victim.

        2. State either:

        2.1 but I still support Duterte for these qualities and I believe he can deliver these…etc.

        2.2 and I withraw my support to this despicable man and he does not deserve to be our next President. Instead I will consider my support now to X for X has thse qualities and I believe could deliver these…

        Filipinos have a hard time giving apologies, that is embedded in our culture. We think that admitting our mistakes make us a lesser person. In fact it is empowering for you can cut your loses and people will usually be magnanimous if you are sincere in your apology and willing to learn from it.

        Look what happened to @Victin, he was supporting Poe, and chose Duterte as second choice and derided Roxas, but once he realized that Duuterte is a despicable person, he immediately decided to withdraw his support and even chose Roxas as second his choice. He cut and cut cleanly and there is no stigma in that since he valiadated his reason of withdrawal that he did not know that Duterte is that bad, and now that he knows, @victin withdraw his support.

        Hope you get something from my unsolicited advice.

        • Thanks parekoy but I’ll still stick with Du30 come hell or high water because of one reason: no other candidates except Du30 who obviously has the guts and political will to change the status quo such as but not limited to: prevalence of illegal drugs and the crimes associated with it; rampant smuggling in the BOC being coddled apparently by some influential officials; drug lords are not apprehended/jailed and their drug labs destroyed; bantay-salakay among the law enforcers due probably to pressing monetary needs; corruption in most government agencies and too-much red tape in the bureaucracy that discourages the entry of foreign investors.

          The voters are not wont to switch to other candidates due to his scandalous amorous misadventures as evidenced by the latest Pulse Asia survey showing his widening lead over Grace

    Exactly where in the timeline does the story of the mayor emptying an uzi clip fit in?

    • The only source corroborating Duterte’s version of events was published April 18, 2016. Why were there no accounts of his gallantry written on the newspapers published closer to the time of the incident?

    • Also on June 14, 2011 Jesus Dureza wrote about a hostage taking incident in Davao Penal Colony. He took lessons from a previous hostage taking incident involving Pugoy as the leader of the inmates and Duterte in the government side. Dureza wrote:

      “The following day, Pugoy et al then made a futile dash for freedom. They were all killed in a volley of fire together with several hostages, including the young Australian lass. I recall assisting then Mayor Rody Duterte during one futile negotiation at city hall where the Pugoy caravan also made a “stopover” as the hostage drama was nearing its tragic end. That experience was instructive: as much as possible, always keep them in controlled situations. I did not want a repeat of the Pugoy incident.”

      • We get it that Duts went through a very trying time. Dealing with a tense hostage situation that culminates in a bloody shootout is never a walk in the park.

        But that does exempt him from the rules of basic human decency and give him the right to say “Napakaganda, Dapat mayor muna ang nauna. Sayang” after looking at the corpse? And apparently, he finds this story juicy enough to use as entertainment for his rallies. There’s nothing like a anecdote about a botched hostage rescue with a little rape sprinkled in to keep the audience cheering.

      • Sir noong January 2011 at recently lang naikwento niya naman yung incident. 12 years after nangyari ang incident at siguro naman naka recover na siya sa “Psychological Trauma” na naexpereince niya ay kinekwento niya pa din palagi ito and he seem to see the incident and his comments as witty and macho na ipinagmamalaki niya pa ito. May problema po sa pagiisip si Duterte sir. Kung ako po ang anak ng biktima at narinig ko ang sinabi niya, justified din po ba akong patayin siya or siya ang may karapatang magalit, ma offend, mag mura at pumatay?

        But then, wala daw syang dapat ihingi ng tawad sa kanyang sinabi na inulit lang pala niya dahil meron palang nauna pa. Hindi rin ba joke ang una? Para sa akin ay mali iyong sinabi niya. Mali, period. Wrong choice of words. Inamin niya na mali daw ang mga salitang ginamit niya. Doon na lang sana tapos na kaso pilit pa na inilulusot.

        Huwag niya sanang gawing biro o maliit na bagay ito para hindi na maulit. Sa Davao City ay baka okay lang since 20 years siyang lider doon at kilala ng nasasakupan niya. Ngunit pagka-pangulo na ng bansa ang hinahabol niya at buong Pilipinas na ang pinag-uusapan kabilang na rin ang ibang bansa kung saan may diplomatic ties tayo kagaya ng Australia. Is he unfit to lead because of this? You don’t need to answer. Nakaka-offend lang talaga yung sinabi niya and very insensitive of him. Kapag mali dapat kondenahin, kakampi man o hindi.

    • Are you sure Duterte lied? What is your basis? Did you try to find out first where Duterte was at the time. Raissa asked this in her article.

      • Duterte lied yesterday when he said that he made the comment in anger. He obviously did not make the statement in anger (twice) it was to make his audience laugh.
        Where he was at the time is irrelavant. There is no excuse for a so called dignitary repeatedly making fun of the raped and murdered Australian Missionary.

          Raissa’s article deals on the fact that same remark was made by Duterte previously, which fact the Duterte camp never denied. It is not about whether the remark was a joke or not. You thought that Duterte was lying in telling his story of participation in the incident because Raissa could not find the pertinent link. Who is the “incorrigible” liar then?

        • You appear to subsribe to the theory that it is okay for Duterte to suggest that he should have been first in line at the time the Australian Missionary was being raped? If you don’t subscribe to that theory then this discussion is unnecessary.
          I will never be able to relate that statement to a person who is feeling anger. I am not so naive.
          He lied to cover up following the public outcry.

        • Rene, why assert a limit? This is not a question of wether the mayor was involved or not. A hostage taking in your City involving a foreign national will involve the mayor.
