Transfers it from the Grandstand to a road beside a mall

By Raïssa Robles

USE THIS - 2016 Elections UPDATES June 8-15Two weeks ago, vice-presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos announced his Miting de Avance would be held at the Quirino Grandstand.

The announcement was made in a meme showing a triumphant looking Bongbong with text bragging that “after almost 4 decades of silence”, the plunderer’s son was inviting everyone to his coming out bash.

“COME ONE, COME ALL,” the poster said, showing a photo of throngs of people filling up Luneta as far as the eye could see.

BBM---Miting-de-Avance-May-5-16

But it was photo fakery. The picture of the crowds have been snipped from the 1995 visit of Pope John Paul II in Manila. See my previous story.

Now, reality has set in. With hardly any fanfare, the plunderer’s son has announced that his Miting de Avance will instead be held at Nueve de Pebrero Street in Barangay Addition Hills.

Where?

Bongbong-miting-de-avance---downsized

Apparently, this area is now an alternative to Tondo, for a national candidate to demonstrate his concern for the urban poor. The area is also where presidential candidate Jejomar Binay held his kick-off rally last February.

But in case BBM supporters don’t know where it is, there is a note on the Miting de Avance poster saying it’s “in front of Shaw Center Mall”.

Such a comedown – from the Quirino Grandstand in Manila to a road side in Mandaluyong in front of a mall.

It’s perhaps an indication that Bongbong Marcos’ vice-presidential campaign is somewhat in disarray.

As for leading presidential contender Rodrigo Duterte, you have to admire the man. He has this native talent for offending everyone.

Even the left-wing Kilusang Mayo Uno took him to task after Mayor Rody threatened to kill any unionist who would organize unions in economic zones or break the industrial peace. You can read about that here.

His now-missing vice-presidential running mate Alan Peter Cayetano tried to do damage control by saying that Duterte was merely asking for industrial peace in exchange for getting workers higher wages and a ban on contractualization.

But Duterte’s words were very clear in his rally in Tondo, Manila – the historic seat of the working class. There, Duterte said,

“Kayong mga KMU, medyo pigilan muna ninyo ang labor union. Ako na ang nakikiusap sa inyo. Magkasama tayo sa ideolohiya. Huwag ninyong gawin iyan kasi sisirain mo ang administrasyon ko. Kapag ginawa ninyo iyan, patayin ko kayong lahat. Ang solusyon dito patayan na. Eh pakiusapan mo, ayaw eh. We have to come into terms with each other.” (You with KMU, you should somewhat stop labor organizing. I’m the one appealing to you. We are both one in ideology. Don’t do that because that will destroy my Administration. If you do that, I will kill all of you. The solution will have to be killings. If one requests and they don’t agree. We have come into terms with each other.).

Duterte added, “Do not do it now iyung (those who are) active labor front. Kasi kapag ginawa ninyo, nasisira. (Because if you do that, it will get destroyed.) Do not do it. Give the Philippines a respite of about 10 years.”

♦  ♦  ♦

This is perhaps why, when Duterte held a rally in front of the Manila Post Office last Sunday to celebrate Labor Day, few people came. Noted prominent novelist Ninotchka Rosca posted on Facebook this photo of a “desultory crowd” at Duterte’s evening rally.

You know what Duterte’s pronouncement about  workers reminds me of?

The Dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Before Marcos imposed Martial Law, he claimed in his book The Democratic Revolution in the Philippines that he would launch a revolution in behalf of the poor, including the workers. That in his revolution, the plight of workers would improve.

But as soon as he imposed Martial Law, the workers were among Marcos’ first victims. Martial Law completely trampled workers’ rights.

So those who are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, beware.

Because Dictator Duterte can just as easily decree – like Marcos – that any posting about him on Facebook or Twitter that vaguely hints of any criticism can be grounds for arrest.

That is the way of the Dictator.

♦  ♦  ♦

One last thing, while all eyes are on Duterte, don’t forget Bongbong Marcos.

Marcos is now grafting his name to all the presidential candidates, except Mar Roxas.

♦  ♦  ♦

The strangest combination I heard today was a truck blaring out the names of Jejomar Binay for president and Leni Robredo as his vice-president.

    SHE SAID “NO”
by Christina A. Astorga and Cynthia Patag

It was a glorious chance to prove her burning love of country above self, to finally silence the persistent questions regarding her Filipino citizenry. Her numbers have been dwindling, she has no civil society to rally behind her, no political machinery to support her candidacy. A win is now improbable. But there was a loss that was far worse: the loss of her country’s democracy to yet another brutal dictatorship.

    Still, she said “no.”

The privilege to prove one’s fervent patriotism comes only once; it will not come again. Had she said “yes,” she would have been hailed by the Filipino people as a national heroine, history would have had a special place for her in its annals; her ultimate sacrifice would have been remembered from generation to generation – a legacy she would have left her children and her children’s children, a legacy that a grateful nation would have forever held in its heart.

    But she said “no.”

She has written herself out of history. She would be forgotten when the dust of Election 2016 settles. At the sunset of her life, she will look back and regret that when her country was in the throes of imminent perdition, she was in the position to make the ultimate sacrifice to save it.

I’m not victin, pero sisingit lang po ako ng konti.

grace is presumably daughter of a dictator, and knew how it is to live under one too. she was beneficiary as well with her adoptive parents highly regarded by the dictator marcos. they had good place in society, and managed to maintain their wealth. it is therefore, natural only for grace to say ‘no’ to the call of president noy, no to democary, yes to dictatorship. grace once said, if voted president, she’d make duterter her crime czar.

Perhaps we cannot blame Ms. Grace Llamanzares for her arduous desire to become the next president and why not. Despite her lack of political machinery or financial advantage (if not for the support of Danding Cojuangco), she interpreted her strengths from her last name, the popular support as a senator she got back then, and her equally educated attributes. To her great opportunity only knocks once.

However, on the issue of saving our country from an impending brutal dictator as the next possible successor of president Aquino, I share your idea that anyone of them, i.e., Roxas or Poe, should give way to thwart the double digit lead of Duderte.

There is a saying that a good leader must first be a good follower foremost. Mar Roxas exemplified this well. He gave in to his presidential nomination in 2010 since he knows his counterpart (Aquino) had a better chance of winning and thus serves the best interest of the party and the country. In fact some misgivings of pres.Aquino is faulted now to Mar Roxas for following blindly to the letter the former’s occasional indecisiveness. I tend to surmise that this characterization of Mar Roxas as typecasted to pres.Aquino, led to his sluggish upward rating on surveys. Now will Grace do the same honorable deed done by Mar for the country?

My view is for Grace Llamanzares to give way for Mar Roxas inasmuch as the secretary has more weapons on his sleeves to battle the onslaught of votes for Duderte. The political machinery is well in place for the Liberals and we all know that this advantage helps a lot in every major election. Definitely their combined votes are more than enough to dislodge the leading candidate’s fanatical votes.

Speaking of Bong Bong Marcos … today he held a meeting de advance at mandaluyong (9 de Pebrero). I saw the posters it was with Abalos …

from what i understand, these kind of meeting must not disturb the public and should not cause traffic. They have the road closed from 9 am ( thats the time i report for work) but the actual event according to one of their marshals starts 4pm. this resulted traffic on Shaw Boulevard and lots of commuters were stranded …

I also noticed that there are some buses park (normally bus don’t park on Shaw Boulevard). Obviously … you know what this means..

I know the comelec will be blind and deaf with this …

Duterte popular among ghosts? Not yet elected, endorsed with a plunder complaint before the OMB.

“The complaint is in connection with the alleged ghost employees under the Davao City government.

“Citing a Commission on Audit report, Trillanes said there is no proof that 11,000 contractual employees hired by the city government in 2014 actually rendered services.

“Trillanes said the city government spent over P700 million for the services of the contractual employees.

”We have been digging up his different government transactions and we stumbled upon this anomalous 11,000 contractual employees reported by COA last 2015,” Trillanes told ANC.”

    Black Propaganda initiated by Change.Org

Members of this group initiated an underground movement promotin Duterte/ Poe. Their task was to pretend supporting RORO or PoRo but in effect were supporting only Robredo in each camp pushing Pie or Roxas to commit blunders or lead supporters of either Poe or Roxas to to respond to Duterte’s attack or misstatements. That’s to put Duterte in the headlines everyday while Poe or Roxas were engaging him. Classic sa palad challenge of Roxas was prime example. Roxas bit the bait and his mamas boy and “pikon demeanor surface publicly. With Pie it was the attack on his family, shies of Brian, military stint of husband and Grace SS number. While touting the nationalism and simple habits of Duterte. If you will recall during this episode that Duterte started to catch Poe in the survey.

Their last effort is urging Poe or Roxas on I telnet to give way to each other to defeat Duterte. It’s ANOTHER PLOY because according to survey those in the fold of each candidates are die hard supporters. They will not change their vote to the other whoever drops from the race.

Poe and Roxas should continue to run. Target the swing voters of Duterte in Metro and NCR region. They run to about 10-15% and the undecided numbering 5-10%.
Consider the math on latest Laylo survey Duterte 32%_____Poe25%_____ Roxas 23%
Difference of Poe from Duterte is 7% while Roxas from Duterte is 9%

Political Analyss have calculated a hat up to 25% of voters will CHANGE their mind.

Calculate when Duterte was running 2nd his preference number was up 25% only and when he was third his number was up to 22% .
Meaning his SWING VOTES from other candidates were in the range of 7-10%. Strike out half of this, meaning he will lose between 4-5
Then his numbers would drop to max 28%. Consider the INdependEnt (undecided) VOTERS OF 5-10%. I’m only calculating a total of maximum 20% combining Swing and Undecided compared to 25% by the analysts.

I’m calculating undecided voters will not vote Duterte based on his handling of his bank accounts for these are very savvy, discriminating and righteous voters that’s why they are still sitting on the fence. They were only deciding between the remaining four candidates. Since MIRIAM is incapacitated, Binay is like Duterte so Poe or Roxas would be the choice. Whoever gets the majority of Independent will garner 6%.

    Calculation
    Duterte loses 4-5%= Final tally—–27-28%

Winner Poe- 25% ___ from Duterte Swing votes4% plus Undecided 6%= ——– Final tally- 35%
    Or
Winner Roxas- 23____from Duterte Swing votes 4% plus undecided 6% ——– Final Tally- 33%

Note that the total of Swing and undecided voters I calculated for Roxas or Poe to win is 10% and the number reduced from Duterte is only 4% based on the Laylo latest survey numbers. The Laylo survey numbers have a total of 91% and 9% unknown for 100% with a margin of error 1.8%. Binay has 15% while Miriam got 2%.
My calculation is based on the unknown 9%.

See the math, WHY CHANGE. ORG members are in panic mode urging either Poe or Roxas to withdraw in favor of the other.
    Their Objective Reason: protect Duterte.

    Very simple!
Poe and Roxas should continue attacking and spreading words that DUTERTE is corrupt, in bed with communists and he will be a harsh dictator danger ing our children. He is losing voters from Swing votes and his supporters know that. His 1% drop after the BPI bank exposure in the news for only day is the tip of the iceberg. By now the drop should be in 3-5% range already because of added info on his real estate properties and children bank accounts.

    Numbers don’t lie!

    Robredo will win, Mark it!

Roxas or Poe will emerge the winner if the Catholic Church will name names on Sunday that is
DO NOT VOTE FOR DUTERTE. HE IS BAD INFLUENCE TO OUR CHILDREN

Bishops and Priests- the ball is in your hands on Sunday. Start acting on what you preach every Sunday.

I have to mention though that Change.Org has been in existence long before any decision by Duterte to run.On the other hand, one cannot simply dismiss your points. It actually sent shivers to my spine.
I like the last part about the Bishops and Priests stuff. The last time the Catholic leaders have a serious grip over national matters was when Cardinal Sin did his famous shout out to the legions go to the streets during the 1986 EDSA Revolution.

        May 5, 2016 at 7:43 PM

In the last blog I wrote about the motives of a Change.Org blogger Varona and TinigPinoy. Both were writing untruthful opinions on Trillanes and aligned Tordesillas. They never mentioned that all Duterte has to do on Trillanes accusation was for Duterte to reveal the entire bank transaction history of Dterte to prove Trillanes wrong. Actually what they wrote was “like a crow circling a carcass”.

They deflected the main issue trying to shield Duterte from further damage. And they are supposed to be educated and intelligent so they know what bank account transaction history will reveal.

Priests must preach on Sunday in plain language instead of beating the bush. Truth is few people listen to sermons intently. Cardinal Tagle once told the priests “make your sermon short and simple.
        Simplest way is:
DO NOT VOTE FOR DUTERTE FOR HIS BAD INFLUENCE ON CHILDREN.

Spread on Facebook and Twitter this message to Bishops and priests

        • Ong-Lo says

          May 6, 2016 at 1:00 PM

Revealing the entire bank transaction history may not even be necessary. If they do not wish to disclose other transactions, they could have easily asked BPI through SPA of Atty. Panelo to check the accuracy of the transaction list provided by Trillanes and issue a certification or official statement.

So far the only thing that Duterte was able to do is show his balance as of March 31, 2014 to the media – the balance 3 days after the alleged transactions took place.

Alam ni Duterte marami sa sumusuporta sa kanya sa baba ay tanga.

Although I support RORO, I will not support foul and underhanded moves to make them win. The relevance of a righteous man and leader does not end simply because of an electoral defeat. But utter defeat is suffered by the man who trades integrity for victory.

It is simply not right and acceptable that our democracy will yield us a criminal leader. But what we should do is prepare first of all, our moral and legal resistance to a possible return of authoritarianism. Those who blindly support a tyrant will be our future oppressors too and we should remember them.

Still I am hoping for the best and especially for Leni Robredo, I believe she should prepare to become President, hopefull within the year.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist Then they came fof the Trade Unionists, and I did not out speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
