Why Leni Robredo could still win

Just my opinion

By Raïssa Robles

The explanation is quite simple.

It’s not “Plan B”, as Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. claims.

It’s Rodrigo Duterte.

Before Duterte’s miting de avance (final rally) last Saturday, Marcos was grafting himself to almost every presidential candidate, including Duterte. In fact, he had boasted that Duterte had said that if in six months’ time he failed to reduce criminality he (Duterte) would resign and hand the presidency over to Bongbong Marcos.

Last Thursday, during the Rotary Club of Manila meeting which I attended, Marcos announced that he would suggest to Duterte that they should “join forces” to ensure each other’s victory and to prevent cheating. He also said the only way he could lose was if he was cheated.

However, Duterte himself threw Marcos’ plans in a spanner last Saturday. During his miting de avance, Duterte appealed for the first time to his supporters to vote for Alan Peter Cayetano because it was Cayetano he was comfortable with. For the first time, Duterte categorically said that Cayetano was the person who had his back.

Such a move meant that Duterte supporters would follow and drop Marcos in favor of Cayetano. I was wondering if this late move of Duterte would propel Cayetano to the very top. But I doubted this would happen because there would not be enough momentum to do that.

However, Duterte’s move would shave votes from Marcos. Votes that he was banking on to propel him to victory.

During last week’s Rotary Club meeting, Marcos had jokingly told the businessmen present that making him the vice-president would effectively shield Duterte from any impeachment move because people would not want him to become president.

If Leni Robredo wins, this introduces a note of instability to his presidency. It makes him temptingly impeachable.

Ironically, it was Duterte himself who told his supporters to vote for Cayetano in order to shield himself from impeachment moves.

Of course, Leni Robredo might not get the numbers in the end. But right now, the race is neck-and-neck, thanks in part to Duterte.

Early pronouncements state that Duterte is eyeing Cayetano for DFA or DOJ. Doesn’t he have to wait at least a year before he can appoint him for a cabinet position? It is a strategic to appoint Cayetano for DOJ…just in case Duterte has to respond to some allegations at some point. vigilance is key.

We just had an election that was for the most part clean, honest and orderly despite a high voter turnout. We may have different personal choices but the clear winner is Philippine Democracy and for this, we can say as Filipinos, we all won.

Let us wish the best for the winners that they may govern wisely and honestly. To the losers, let us cast our grief aside and resist the temptation of living in the past or the future.

Let us savor this moment of democracy’s triumph and remember that we helped make this success possible – today.

But of course, tomorrow is another day…

They’ve learned from their campaign blunders and as the saying goes “he who commits no mistakes, makes no progress”

Possible contenders in 2022: Leni, grace, bongbong, mar again sans daang matuwid, and probably manny whose illusion of grandeur reaches into high heavens and who packs a deadly right straight but can’t speak straight english

          @vander,

News article: “Duterte, Cayetano vow distribution of coco levy funds within month of winning”
    http://www.msn.com/en-ph/news/elections/duterte-cayetano-vow-distribution-of-coco-levy-funds-within-month-of-winning/ar-AAgGhtd

SC paves way for release of P60B in coco levy funds (Dec. 11, 2014 pa itong news na ito).
    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/656515/sc-paves-way-for-release-of-p60b-in-coco-levy-funds

    Sabi pa sa isang balita:
Duterte admin to push wealth redistribution, says analyst
    http://news.abs-cbn.com/halalan2016/business/05/10/16/duterte-admin-to-push-wealth-redistribution-says-analyst

Ang sabi sa itaas, “distribution of coco levy funds within months of winning”. Matutupad kaya?
    Anong “say” niyo?

I say YES! Distribute that CoCo Fund in CASH preferably, to the Farmers. The SC decided that case for quite long.

Anybody or anybodies . . . who derails or blocks the distribution is a traitor to the Farmers and the Country.

That FUND belongs to the Filipino Farmers.

give coco funds to coco farmers only, and not to npa and other rebels.

I think, duterte and cayetano’s idea of wealth distribution is by giving a big chunk of taxpayer’s money to npa and unknown others living in the kabundukan. in short, ghosts.

make npa mainstream and part of society, not an identity all by itself, receiving and not giving.

At the moment, 09:10 a.m. Leni is 224,000 votes ahead of BBM. 4.6% of the ballot returns remain to be counted. This figure has been constant since 6;00 a.m.This could mean a large number of votes or a small number depending on the size of the precincts. I don’t believe the 4.5% reprensents the percentage of votes remaining to be counted.

Why they had to work out of the country should have reminded them the reason WHY. B’cause of the Marcos Martial Law regime. . . bankrupt this country.

Now, why would these OAV vote for BB? I honestly expect the bulk of this 400,000 votes are for LENI ROBREDO!

          May 11, 2016 at 9:13 AM

visit the vatican with quiboloy in tow? I thought there are more pressing matters to attend to, like the court case we have with china, the traffic that needs decongestion, criminals that need to be killed and not allowed another day of committing crimes, liquor ban to be implemented, etc. the philippines needs to be de-problem of problems.

duterte can surely talk with cardinal tagle, or the papal nuncio in manila, and convey his apology. it’s costly to go to Vatican. duterte’s entourage would need money for accommodation, sightseeing and shopping for pasalubong for friends back home. plus he would have to provide for his own security who travels with him, the expenses charged to the government of the phil?

anyhow, gloria arroyo was like that too, gusto travel sa ibang bansa. imeldeffect was the same, travel din ang gusto. maproblema kasi ang bayan, least they can put off problems and forget them for a while when travelling. meron respite. away from the maddening crowd.

in the meantime, the problems in our country keep getting bigger and bigger.

At ito ang masakit: bago umuwi, mamimili, mamasyal at magpakasarap na parang “imeldific”, all at the expense of the government.

But isn’t that a judiciary function and not within the presidential purview? I hope he gets a solid lead team of legal advisers or mag flip-flop siyang walang katapusan. Thoughts?

At iba pa.?

Let Diterte the chhosen by the masang Filipino rule the Philipppines not you oligarch elites dictating again what Duterte will do and willl not do….

chit, the 15million or so who voted for duterte, already duterte has gift for them: nationwide liquor ban, sari-sari stores not allowed to sell them liquor. I think, this will mostly affect the poor for they’re the ones likely to buy cheap liquors in sari sari stores. apparently, high end markets like nightclubs and exclusive hotel bars that have rich clienteles are not affected for they got their liquors from brokers, and not from sari sari stores. so, what applies to the poor, does not apply to the rich. iba na talaga kung mapera.

liquor ban has to be refined for if you own french resto and specilaized in provencale cooking, coc au van is tasteless if not cook with wine. fruit cakes and pudding are bland without the ingredient brandy. also, when invited to parties, you wont be able to give wine, liquor and spirits as gifts. ah, ewan.

I believe that this is the extent of the liquor ban.

The 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. public liquor ban will give restaurant and hotel staff enough time to rest to allow them to return to work the next day.

I am also waiting for that.
last news was whwn trillanes and duterte’s lawyer went to the bpi julia vargas.
both of them had affidavits with them.
trillanes naming michael joseph de mesa as his source.
duts lawyer with spa to open the said number account.
but the bank said they have to asked their legal dept to have a look and see, making sure that they the bank will not be sued later on for breaking bank secrecy law.
Somehow, in some news, the spa waiver was so convulated that the bpi said “they’ve never seen one like it”.
The bank asked a week to study the said waiver.
its should have been out unless they asked for more days.
and or no one followed it up.
and now that duts is the presumptive pres, does it become moot and academic?
      will it come out?
      How about the 47 properties?
There still a 6 six weeks before the taking of oath, more time to correct salns.

The rappler count shows Leni leading by 200K with 92.46% of votes counted. Inquirer/Comelec/GMA/Mirror Server says its 75.89% with the same lead by Leni.

If my memory serves me right, based on my past volunteering experience, each camp has their own process in which trained volunteers report results from various precincts. They validate these reports as well. With LP’s machinery, I will not doubt that they have this in place. At this time, Leni should already know if she made it or not.
