Just my opinion
By Raïssa Robles
The explanation is quite simple.
It’s not “Plan B”, as Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. claims.
It’s Rodrigo Duterte.
Before Duterte’s miting de avance (final rally) last Saturday, Marcos was grafting himself to almost every presidential candidate, including Duterte. In fact, he had boasted that Duterte had said that if in six months’ time he failed to reduce criminality he (Duterte) would resign and hand the presidency over to Bongbong Marcos.
Last Thursday, during the Rotary Club of Manila meeting which I attended, Marcos announced that he would suggest to Duterte that they should “join forces” to ensure each other’s victory and to prevent cheating. He also said the only way he could lose was if he was cheated.
However, Duterte himself threw Marcos’ plans in a spanner last Saturday. During his miting de avance, Duterte appealed for the first time to his supporters to vote for Alan Peter Cayetano because it was Cayetano he was comfortable with. For the first time, Duterte categorically said that Cayetano was the person who had his back.
Such a move meant that Duterte supporters would follow and drop Marcos in favor of Cayetano. I was wondering if this late move of Duterte would propel Cayetano to the very top. But I doubted this would happen because there would not be enough momentum to do that.
However, Duterte’s move would shave votes from Marcos. Votes that he was banking on to propel him to victory.
During last week’s Rotary Club meeting, Marcos had jokingly told the businessmen present that making him the vice-president would effectively shield Duterte from any impeachment move because people would not want him to become president.
If Leni Robredo wins, this introduces a note of instability to his presidency. It makes him temptingly impeachable.
Ironically, it was Duterte himself who told his supporters to vote for Cayetano in order to shield himself from impeachment moves.
Of course, Leni Robredo might not get the numbers in the end. But right now, the race is neck-and-neck, thanks in part to Duterte.

Maxima says
Really? Lemme see…
Key words..genuine land reform, industrialization, economic development, jobs, removal of US troops..
A quick review of “The List” would make one wonder where the NPA is coming from, what its intents are and where it is going. Is the NPA, sincerely hoping to sit down to do peace talks now or in the near future?
The list gives me the impression that the NPAs feel that they are in position of power as it displays such audacity to present such demands. Are they deliverable? In what time frame? How do they define and what are the parameters for their industrialization and economic growth. To some, economic development is relative. As some claimed, the economic growth under Aquino govt is meaningless because it cannot be felt down to the mass level. No GDPs not economic statistics mean anything to them as they spin whatever serves them.
Industrialization, economic growth, etc. takes time. And, when a company pursues industrialization, it has been observed that the reds are the first in line to go on picket lines to stop it. Necessary changes in policies and programs of the entire government – like what? In a jiffy? Removal of the US forces, yeah, right. It seems like the intent is to do the peace talks waaaay beyond the horizon.
So…let’s weigh in the pros and cons in giving in to their demands. Will it be beneficial for the whole Philippine nation or would this “pursuit for peace with the Reds” put the whole nation in a more precarious position?
What happens if after all reasonable efforts, peaceful, co-existence with the reds is not achievable? Meantime, Duterte has dangerously danced with the reds as he was given the palace keys.
Common sentiment is that while a leader’s magnanimous spirit and search for peace is commendable, as it tries to cater to some “requests” not demands, it is absolutely ridiculous and incomprehensible for the reds to think that they are in a position of power to impose their demands for peace talks.
leona says
To ‘RELENTLESSLY criticize and oppose ANY and ALL anti-people and Pro-imperialist policy and measure’ as one of CPPs goals and intentions,
. . . this is totally saying isolate ourselves from everything of ‘pro-imperialist and anti-people’ policy.
So, leap greatly backwards then! Let us all live in the caves.

leona says
This answers Maxima’s – ‘ “The List” would make one wonder where the NPA is coming from, what its intents are and where it is going.”?
China’s economic wealth now is mainly due to embracing ‘pro-imperialist’ policy – TRADE, which benefits its people which is inconsistent with its ‘anti-people policy’ of the imperialists.
A rejection of Mao’s by Mr. Deng.
Maxima says
But…and…people have to adopt communism, joma’s ideology because???
I remember going to China, the icon for communism, a few moons ago. People we met admit to massive corruption in their system as well. They said that the telling sign for the ranks of their military is their belly. The bigger the belly, the higher the rank and their level of corruption is proportionate to that. I didn’t say that, they did.
And where did the sweat shop standard become the norm? Their production cost for a gazillion things is criminally low and the “country” with the few leaders became rich at the expense of their people. Undeniably, many Chinese enriched themselves as they embraced capitalism. And the Panama documents did have in its list families/ relatives of the Chinese high ranking government leaders.
It’s “funny” to note that the communist country itself flipped significantly to adopt capitalism to dominate the global economy and more. And here we have some red-natics who would like to impose their idealism, yes, an absolute phantasm of a superior system to the rest of the country….You are right Leona, we are heading back to the cabe.
What we need is to have a levelled playing field with less bureaucracy, discipline, relevant education system, confidence, entrepreneurship, etc. But, it takes a long time to change its course. People must not rely on the government and must not use the government as an excuse for their sorry state.
leona says
Btw, why did JOMA settle in Netherlands and not in North Korea? Or China itself? Late for Cuba now.

Excellent question – because what he espouses is Lenninist-Marxist-Maoist ideology. He will be squished like a fly if he runs to China. He exploits the principles of democracy to promote his brand of communist ideologies. Irony?
When Cory set him free, he went around Europe attacking Cory for her alleged human rights violations. Now he is considering to come home under Duterte’s leadership, whose ,image is awash with blood of human rights violations.
Just wondering if Joma’s leadership is still that strong with the NPAs who have grown clusters while Joma is away. There are concessions being considered to entice him to come home. The question is—do we really want him to come home?
In transactional principles, who wants the most of what to get what.
Btw – trivia – Joma’s wife is Leila De Lima’s aunt. (Sabi da.)

I wonder how the CPP would undertake the dswp, land reform,
Labor dept, agriculture where they said need utmost overhauling to uplift and better the lives of the poor, poorest people where one can’t help but think how they are going to accomplish that, is it by subjugation, indoctrination to their causes, torture to those who refuse to abide to their wishes. Follow us as they say, we give you these or else……… As they haven’t managerial skills and technological know how, well given only few months of training, and then give all their input and output to the poorest concern, is that enough to handle those government departments. The poorest can’t complain or else…… So we can’t know how they are uplifted from their social, educational and economic beings, is it forward or backward
moonie says
somehow, the people who voted for duterte thinking they’ll get better deal, this is it: can of worms is being opened. the country is being brought back to year zero.
Maxima says
to LetLet and Moonie – those are excellent points and it is painful to think where we could be heading.
To uplift people’s lives, the govt can only do things up to a certain extent. Let’s see how the Duterte phenomenon will unroll. The acceptance of Duterte’s spectacular Machiavellian/messiah complex is something that shocked many.
But then…millions of our OFW’s for many years have lived or have been exposed to UNdemocratic or paternalistic system. Many have worked in the Middle East where democracy is not the norm. As OFW’s many of our people have to live through situations where suppression is prevalent or key to survival. The subservient mentality that the Hispanic rule has bestowed upon us still prevails.
When I go shopping, I am uncomfortable to be attended by sales clerks who pepper me with the word ma’am with some tone of subservience. Many times, I expressed my discomfort and said that they should offer their assistance with confidence and respect. Customer service is not subservience. But I was told that is the training and corporate culture that they must adhere to. I sought a meeting with their HR and training dept. and I realized I have to give up because they were treating me in the same fashion. My heart sank and walked away.
Meantime, while it is good to see that some improvements have kicked in, financial management/education is something needed by many so badly. While mothers or fathers work hard overseas, we see very young kids with expensive flashy cell phones and electronic gadgets. After many years of sacrifice, many come home with no savings and back to the same situation. Back to social welfare assistance system. Squandered opportunity!

Harvey Keh’s FB post;
My former teacher and mentor, Dr. Christina A. Astorga share her reflection on how God truly works in mysterious ways:
IF WE HAD GRACE, WE WOULD HAVE NO LENI!
When Grace refused the offer to be vice president of Mar, I was crestfallen. I thought they were a power team. But when she run for president against Mar, I was disenchanted. Here is someone who left the country, renounced us, and then comes back, and hardly completing her senate term, asks us to grant her the highest honor that any Filipino can have in a lifetime– the presidency of the land!
We did not know her, for she was not there with us, during the darkest time of our history, when we fought with our lives for our freedom and democracy. There were hardly any marks in her hands, feet, heart, for her labor of love for our country, for our people, for our poor. The one time that she could have thrown herself completely on the side of the poor was in the case of our poor coco farmers fighting for their future and the future of their children through their rightful claim to the coco levy fund. In the end, the farmers in their collective statement, said they lost their trust in her, for they realized that that she was more beholden to her padrino, Danding Cojuangco, than she was committed to their cause.
At the twilight of our election, when Mar called out to her to consider forging forces to avert an impending defeat of democracy and freedom, she said “no” even before they could meet and talk. Asserting that she was the one who alone could stop the win of a Duterte presidency, her campaign insisted that it had to be Mar to give way to her. All that possibility is now water under the bridge. But what a sweet victory for Mar to have won over Grace, to seal once and for all, that it was him not her who could have carried the torch of our common cause for democracy and freedom.
With her “no” she lost a place in our hearts, and much more a place in history. It was clear that while she won the SC vote for her citizenship, she does not have the fire of love for our country in her heart and soul, that fire that could make one die for one’s country– “bayan bago sarili,” Her name and her memory would fade as the dust of history settles. There will be no sadness nor weeping, as when one says goodbye to a true patriot and statesperson.
But Grace could have been our vice president, but had we have her, we would have no Leni. And that would have been a real loss. We would have lost a diamond for a platinum. The first time I heard about Leni was through a posting of Lino Rivera who was completely spellbound by Leni in her conversation with his group. He said that they were shooting questions covering a wide and broad range in their conversation, and they were simply taken over by her intelligence, her insights, her competence, her grassroot experience, and her love for the poor.
From that time on, I too was spellbound. Her competence was beyond question– a human rights lawyer, a former judge, and representative. Her commitment to the cause of the poor, ang mga nasa laylayan, was worthy of admiration and emulation. She practically spent all of her life fighting for justice for the poor, and taking that fight to far-flung barrios, as she crossed lands and rivers to reach her people. The Sumilao farmers, whose rightful claim to their land, she fought for years, have never forgotten her. When it was her turn to fight the greatest battle in her life, they were there for her too, as they marched for her victory.
When Leni was discerning whether to accept the offer of P-Noy and Mar as Vice President, I was praying with and for her. I wrote a plea to her in a posting, and I asked Harvey Keh, a former student of mine, and one of Leni’s most ardent and indefatigable campaigners and supporters, to send my plea to her. I hoped then that my plea would resonate in her discerning heart. I found myself accompanying her in her journey, as I lighted candles for her on my small altar, in my daily prayer with and for her. When she finally accepted to be the Vice President of Mar, I was so overjoyed, that I wept.
With her yes, and with the team of Mar-Len forged, the rest of my life, along with others, began. With our gears and boots on, we became their tireless and fearless warriors, some on the ground, others on social media– on every front the battle was fought. Mar-Len was the perfect team to move our country forward. They likened their team to cooking bibingka, with fire below and fire above. The fire above was likened to Mar and his leadership in the realm of national and global issues; the fire below was likened to Leni and her leadership in the realm of local and grassroot issues. Their program was not only coherent; it was broad, as its reach went from urban to rural. Lahat ay mabibigyan ng alaga at pag-aaruga. While Mar was the pillar of strength for the country, Leni was its guiding light.
From 1% to Vice President! That summarizes succintly the incredible narrative of Leni’s win. When BBM cries foul and accuses Leni of cheating her way to her win, he insults the extraordinary labor of Leni, who among all the candidates, had reached the most number of places in the country, even the remotest of places. He insults the tireless, fearless, and truly heroic labor of her supporters across all sectors of the country, who poured practically their lives into this one singular cause— the VP win against all odds and obstacles. And we won! Yes, “the last man standing is a woman” the final line in her outstanding debate performance that catapulted her to the top came to fruition!
But then Mar Lost. And we grieved, mourned, and wept for the loss of a true patriot and statesman for president. Never have we shed tears for the loss of a candidate. Never have we mourned and grieved, but this was a loss like no other. It was a loss for the country we love. And like death, this loss was irreversible; it was final. And our hearts were broken, beyond repair. Mar fought the battle with honor, and stood with dignity against the most vicious black propaganda ever crafted by malevolent minds against a candidate. But so justly and sweetly is he vindicated by recent events. The people of Leyte and Samar, the Yolanda-striken regions, gave him the highest votes, defying all the lies and fakeries of the Duterte supporters. The people knew who was truly with them in their deepest need and in their darkest hours.
And the trains have arrived, as Mar promised. But no one believed him then. He was mocked and vilified for his incompetence in not being able to solve the traffic problems. Duterte, resorting to the lowest form of discourse, revealing his intellectual bankruptcy, when challenged by facts and data, called Mar, “bayot.” But now he is backtracking. He now says that the traffic problem cannot be solved in 6 years. But not only have the trains arrived, the massive infrastructure that will decongest Metro Manila as it will make travel accessible, is under way. These are the projects of P-noy and Mar for the country.
And the country’s economy is being globally praised as the fastest economy in Asia, as reported by CNN Philippines and also by Moody ratings. P-noy and Mar were the master architects of this economy. And Duterte who campaigned as change president (pagbabago ng bulok na sistema!), will end up as a continuity president. This economic system which he and his supporters relentlessly demolished in their black propaganda will be continued by him. He now praises it as good economy, so why should he fix it. In the end, people voted for Duterte, and they got P-noy and Mar. What an irony!
But for Mar, the success of Duterte is the success of the country. When he conceded with honor, without rancor and bitterness, he carved a special place in our hearts and a distinguished place in our history. Even In his defeat, his final word was love for country. And it is this love for country that makes both P-noy and Mar patriots and statesmen of the highest order. P-noy shall forever be remembered as the president who labored for 6 years to transform this country from the sick man of Asia to the rising new Asian Tiger, with a 30 trillion dollar economic trajectory! Mar shall be remembered as the man who gave way to P-noy and gave up his own run for presidency, for love of country. “Bayan muna bago sarili.” It will be a long time till we shall have the same men of such stature and magnitude in their love for country like their forbears. Their legacy shall live on forever!
With the loss of Mar, we all found ourselves in the darkness, wailing, mourning, and grieving. But with the win of Leni, there was a crack in the darkness, and some light has come through. And we are now finding our way through the darkness, guided by the light coming through the crack. Leni shall be our guiding, inspiring, empowering light as we continue our fight for justice, freedom, and democracy. As Dylan Thomas writes: “Do not go gentle into the night; Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.” And we shall draw from the enduring promise of the Gospel: “The light shines in the darkness; and the darkness has not overcome it.” (Jn.1:5).
Yes, if we had Grace, we would have no Leni. The divine strategy was beyond our understanding, then, but now we know, now we understand. And we are truly grateful to the God of history, to the God of the universe. Amen.

the question now is how well can leni work with duterte and his gabinete? already she is being denied the cabinet post of dswb. what else is she going to be denied of again? she is elected official and yet those not elected, namely joma at iba pang mga kaibigan, kaklase at kasing-kayabangan ni duterte are going to get the better jobs. leni may have to cut ties with liberal party, and joined duterte’s party just so she can have a meaningful post. and if she does, I can understand her re-inventing herself. make herself relevant.
Maxima says
This made me roar. Kasing kayabangan must be patented.
I think I heard her say before that with or without cabinet portfolio she will push forward her own advocacy which sounds like a great plan because with her ears to the ground, she will keep her connection with the masang laylayan.
moonie says
leni may come up against the joint forces of joma and npa on the ground, and denied access to the masa. also, duterte can starve her of much needed funds, the way gloria arroyo once starved aquino of funds before aquino became president. aquino’s constituents suffered as a result, and aquino got isolated in the senate, laws he intended to pass got blocked.
politics can be dirty game. I hope leni is quick study and comes prepared.

hindi pa yata lost ang shoal, we are still fighting it out in international court. ruling will be in about 2months.
anyhow, hindi pa nga sworn in si duterte, already nanghingi na siya ng list sa pdea, gusto na raw umpisahan ang killing of druggies.
moonie says
hoy, hwag ibigay ang list, malay mo kung saan mapunta yan. baka npa will approach those nakalista at mangikil, give money and we’ll let you get out of the country. no money and you’ll get executed. buy your freedom and we’ll struck you off the list. or give us your real estate properties and your haciendas and we’ll let you off the hook. or if you work for me and be drug runner overseas, your name will miraculously vanish from said list.
why is human rights chair very quiet about this? druggies might be at the bottom of the pit but they still have human rights, and protected by the law.
moonie says
death penalty is not law yet, not been passed at senate and not yet sanctioned by the state. killing of druggies now is homicide or murder and carries jail sentence.

as for trilla, napag-initan yata siya ni duterte dahil trilla revealed duterte’s tagong yaman at mga tagong properties. then, trilla mention impeachment. kabado tuloy si duterte, and will do all to put federalism in place, the soonest the better, preferably before impeachment process can start.

Duterte made earlier announcements that the VP can have his/her choice cabinet post. Leni has expressed interest to have the portfolio which would give her the opportunity to work directly with the poor, e.g. DWSD.
Duterte has just announced that he will give four cabinet posts to the Communist party: Agrarian reform, DOLE, DSWD, and natural resources. He has named a former classmate to a cabinet post. Joma a former professor will certainly get a juicy role. Hmmm. they assailed Aquino before for the KKK issue.
While I’d like to give him the benefit of the doubt as he forms his own KKK, He now makes me chuckle as he is following the same pattern. While I recognize the reality and rationale of these appointments, let’s see how Duterte will be the opposite of Aquino.
I honestly froze upon reading his announcement. I strongly hope that he appoints the right people for those critical posts and not just do token appointments for those important seats, just because…
I hope that we can thwart the Chinese claim of our lands. Most importantly, I hope that the the communist ideology will not rule over our democracy. He is playing his game…very dangerously. I shudder at the thought of his possible game plan.
There are circulations, some planting with incredulous writing, painting Aquino in such a terrible angle. Duterte’s victory was not based on his ability nor his charm but it was his skilful propaganda. Some “whispers” say that some people are not just intent to put him in jail…but they want him completely “out of the scene” because he still stands as a plausible strong force to fight Duterte if push comes to a shove.
leona says
Pres.-elect Duterte and the CPP! Did the former give the CPP a public office position in Davao City?
Why plan to offer CPP Cabinet posts in the National Government? Can the ‘two’ get along progressively?
Or they can become the meanest of enemies against each other thereon?
Of what good use would OIL or WATER mixed together? The Soviets never did this. How about China?
Tell us of what good use will it be.
:-)
moonie says
he, he, he, you need oil and vinegar, good salad dressing yan. but oil and water can mix quite well, you just need a surfactant (?) as catalyst.
anyhow, I think, cpp already has well paid ghost post in davao, and this time though, duts is letting them go national so his federalistic dream can become reality. cpp will be catalyst that helps duts secure federalism, earlier if need be. duts is not getting any younger kasi.

Initially, nobody was interested in the undiscovered natural resources in this SEA part.
After discovery by US/European drilling companies, everybody in the area claims interests.
Is it confirmed that there are such oil and gas, etc., resources in that SEA part in vast reserves?
Funny to say ‘only the SEA has claim to it.’ No other country has absolute ownership over those natural resources. Not China primarily. Madamot ang Tsina!
Funny to resolve it this way: Let every country share from it equally.
Funny also to believe that those natural resources are ‘South’ of China because geographically it is ‘East’ of China. Where is the ‘North’ of China? And ‘West’?
Funny again to say that the claim of the 9-Dash Lines are actually pointing to ‘South’ of China are countries like: Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, etc.

Another war, violence, upheaval, plague and sickness, calamities?
From the original article, it seems that the PH is the one doing the grabbing and instigating trouble to the poor Chinese fisherman and many other things, and China is the one showing a reasonable kind of restraint.
I don’t know the real historical origin where all these are coming from, the bottom line is greed for the minerals and control of the navigation which also brings in money to the powerful.

On war. . . when a country gets so rich it creates a reason to go to war.
Maybe, in all probability, China did not want to participate in the Arbitration case because the real historical origin of Its claims on the disputed islands is incredibly without valid historical basis.
Whether there are vast natural resources in that SEA part or not, China secondly does not care and just want to challenge everyone that It controls the sea lanes in that area.
Before it was Japan. Now China. And USA needs to go back into that area again with Its armed forces. A shooting war can take place there anytime soon.
WW 3? I doubt. Unless USA attacks mainland China.

Raissa titled the current blog as “Why Leni Robredo could still win” perhaps in fairness to the hot VP race and the early election returns number.
May be now Raissa can run an update: “Why Marcos cannot win.”
My take — with all other VP candidates except Marcos conceding to Robredo; and the warmth with which Robredo is being received by the Administration of the Presumptive President Duterte, it is time for Marcos to do the gentlemanly courtesy and not continue with the sour-graping.
aberato says
and when did the remaining marcoses gentlemanly acknowledged the disaster they wrecked havoc on the filipinos? NEVER!

I have been following CPM for sometime. Recently, I have been amused, nah, rather perplexed with some changes in the exchange of opinions.
I felt that in the past, we helped refine each other’s thoughts. Info were vetted, thoughts, theories and opinions were discussed. But, there were no aggressive personal attacks or name calling. At times, there were off colour jokes and misogynistic comments but overall, decent exchanges prevailed. I hope that we can preserve that CPM culture– the way that it has been–objective, intelligent, respectful and cordial.
IMHO, there are those who have earned their stripes in this forum, to name a few: Buddy G., Leona, Yvonne, Johnny L. Parekoy, kalahari, Tony, and more–thank you for the wonderful contributions you have shared with the group.
Raissa and Allan are well-known and respected journalists. Excellent materials are pitched and CPMERs join in. Raissa and Alan have helped shape the Philippines’ political landscape. Let’s thank them for opening this platform where we share our pieces. I hope that we can continue to have this as an important medium for information exchange and even a spot for cyber friendship. As well, I’d like to keep this as a special forum for my young sons to learn and appreciate their Filipino roots.

“Sa buhay, hindi mo mape-please lahat. Ito, saradong konklusyon na ito. In the end, palaging tama ang mananaig. Hindi necessary na every step of the way ay dinedepensahan natin ang mga sarili natin. Ang sa akin lang, magbigay tayo ng mas maraming allowances. After nito ang mas malaking struggle, ‘yung pagbuo natin sa ating bansa,” she said.

apparently pres noy is hard act to follow. duterte is proposing federalism; thus, he wont be judged under the current democratic yardstick imposed by pres noy.
referendum about federalism will cost us millions. federalism or not, we’re still be filipinos, living in the same houses, using the same cars, same enemies and friends, same street signs, and our money will still be the peso. and there will still be absences in the upper and lower houses, like what manny pacquiao and his ilk had been doing. panay absent sa trabaho, bored with work.
though, school textbooks across the board will have to be changed, the term democracy changed with federalism, there will be new logo too, etc. and so, we can expect more expenses, just when taxpayers money is to be paid to npa as well. more money going out, less money coming in.
and, if federalism lost the referendum, that’s another millions down the drain.
sometimes, I think, duterte does not care how the public money is being spent. so long as his tagong yaman (all 17 bank accounts) is protected, he’s happy.
Kamote Procopio says
Not sure if there could be a workaround on incorporating the advantageous provisions of federalism into our Constitution, that would be desirable.

‘Swift justice for criminals’ – death?
“According to international human rights organizations, China is a country with the largest number of death sentences. However, the official statistics of executions in the country is kept secret. Currently seven Russians are sentenced to death in China, all of them are drug dealers. They still have a chance to survive.”
In China, too many drug lords are executed. They keep it a secret because China has the largest death sentences carried out very often.
Here in our ‘Pinas, maybe they become KINGS of Drugs (not ‘lords’ anymore).
“Russian national Maria Lopatina who was sentenced to death by the court of a Southern China city of Zhuhai for drug smuggling with a two-year postponement of the execution can expect a reduced sentence.”
“In 2007, a resident of Glasgow Akmal Shaikh was arrested in the Chinese city of Urumqi. He was charged with possession of as many as four kilos of heroin. The British denied the charges until his last day. In 2007 he was sentenced to death with a two-year sentence suspension. No one believed that the man would be executed. Nearly the entire world rose to defend the British.”
“Death sentence is provided by over 60 articles of the Chinese criminal law. For example, the death penalty can be given for financial fraud, pimping, violent crime, bribery, sale of counterfeit drugs, damage to electrical wires, unauthorized excavation of ancient tombs and a whole bunch of crimes for which in Russia one cat get no more than probation. I am not talking about corrupt officials or drug dealers.”
“Interestingly, the official statistics of executions in China has never been published. But, according to observers, thousands of criminals are executed in the country every year. Previously offenders were shot, but now, as far as I know, more often lethal injections are used.”
Financial fraud? We do not have it here. Pimping? Same. Bribery? We can love this!
“Last year four Japanese nationals charged with drug dealing were executed in China. The Japanese authorities had been addressing the Chinese Themis with numerous petitions for years. However, the Japanese drug traffickers have been executed.” [04-2015]
“Another peculiarity of the Chinese justice is the speed of execution of death sentences. In Russia a trial can drag on for years. In developed countries, death sentence is always preceded by a long-term trial on different levels, and the convicted shall have an opportunity for an appeal. This often leads to the fact that years or even decades pass between the sentence and its execution.”
Speed of execution. Must be fast as it has speed in China.
Soon, ‘Pinas might have death penalty again – by hanging. With SPEED? I don’t know if we can love speed on it.

china is just mean and don’t want to feed and accommodate prisoners, better kill them soonest and keep the money to themselves. there are many corrupt officials in china. and now that duts is our president, many chinese drug lords will immigrate to our country, getting harder for them kasi to live in china dahil profits are getting meager. parami ng parami ang mga drug lords at lumiliit ang client base nila, either send to prison and executed.
sa pinas, with our population now close to 95millions, that’s a lot of potential drug users, more money to be made, and business is going to be 70-30. duts wants trade with china, I cant exclude drug trade though.

Johnny Lin says
Economic policy of PNoy improved the economy not because he was a brilliant economist but due to one factor which stimulated foreign investments and local trading.
That factor: reducing corruption.
Duterte will follow the economic path of Aquilino because it’s working, fight corruption. Duts is upping the ante by announcing early to change the constitution on foreign ownership of land. About 6 yrs ago, in the early days of Aquino administration, I posted this agenda to improve foreign investments is to change constitution allowing foreign ownership of land. Foreign PhilAm chamber of commerce have recommended same idea since Ramos and every incoming president thereafter.
One word why we Filipinos are lagging economically from other Asian countries. We faltered in our vision of excessive nationalism by revising 1987 Constitution as a knee jerk reaction to Marcos Martial Law by having too much of this one word:
PROTECTIONISM!
BFD says
@Johnny Lin
I will concur with the framers of the 1987 Constitution in upholding in limiting foreign ownership. It’s not protectionism per se, but protectionism from the manipulation of rich country in the economic blood of the country.
It’s like the requirement of being NBFC of a presidential candidate, it’s supposed to protect us from outright foreign manipulation and control of a rich foreign country like China who is in a buying spree all over the world.
Johnny Lin says
No third world country has progressed towards first rate with economic protectionism.
Accepting dole outs, repatriation, financial aids, interest free loan in exchange of something is the cause of manipulation. Freedom from protectionism leads to competitiveness. Tourism will be the first beneficiary of this economic freedom.entire So lovely and beautiful are Philippine country sides but it’s tourist industry is way much behind other countries in the Carribean, Thailand, Malaysia. all because large foreign corporations whose business staple is service to tourists are restricted from engaging maximal business investments. one does not need an Einstein brain to calculate income losses from tourism.
Peaceful environment and fun loving places are what the Philippines have to show to stimulate the economy. Duterte is on right track with crime fighting promises.
Or be satisfied being a third world nation and keep your land due to what else?
Fear from being manipulated!
Spaniards instilled fear on the natives thru religious indoctrination. Now the fear is being manipulated if real estate are sold to foreigners for economic prosperity.
Did we not learn our lesson yet?
BFD says
@Johnny Lin, it is not protectionism why we are a third world country, but because we have a warlord/dynastic mentality.
Having said that, our local politicians give doleouts to the poor, but not really to make them competitive via skills training, but to make them subservient to them come election time as we see every election after every election.
This is what we must be free from first, not tinkering with the constitution. Read your history, it is the subservience of the local people to the local warlord/dynastic family that makes them slaves of the tyrant in their midst.
Johnny Lin says
I don’t know where you learned the idea that “third world countries are classified due to warlordism/ dynasty?refer
Try googling history provenance of “world countries or first world, second world and third world countries.
Reference is to highly developed countries like US, Western Europe, Japan and Australua(first world). Second is developed countries allied with Eastern block Russia, China
Third are those economically poor developing countries associated with either USA or Eastern block, Phil North Korea Burma etc.
Now, show me your reference where warlordism or dynasty is the point of reference in classifying world countries.
If you can’t show then your theory on protectionism is fallacious except of course “personal reasoning or idea”
BFD says
The US and other “First World” countries’ histories were littered with protectionist policies.
You try googling their histories and you’ll find out they protect their vital industries.
Johnny Lin says
@BFD
What happened to your Warlordism theory?
Good, you learned something new and read about Protectionism is widespread and practiced not only by Philippines but mainly, USA, Russia and other powerful nations. You should have researched read and researched more. One sentence was not enough.
These countries instituted lots of Protectionism in their assets, riches after becoming First world. THEY COULD AFFORD IT ALREADY BECAUSE MANY ARE DEPENDENT ON THEM. They can Manipulate the system. Remember your initial response the word ” Manipulate”. Yes that’s the result of being powerful. It’s Reality. False pride will not bring success, just misery. Philippines cannot afford the luxury of Protectionism like the First World US because it’s a third world nation.
Nation has to sacrifice to progress like a poor kid walking to school for miles to get education. Upon being educated, worked and successful poor boy can make demands relative to success. Art Tugade, new DOTC Sec of Duterte. He resigned as CDC chairman. He was able to choose his position from living in squatter area. Why, It’s Life!
Very Poor people do not have the luxury to give or invest or give away money freely. Contrary, rich people can afford doing anything with their money including whom they want to fund, dole out to or spite not to give money.
Similarly to what happened to the Philippines who has restrictions on real estate to foreigners. Foreign investors ignored the Philippines with manufacturing investments, large international corporations like FedEx and pharmaceutical companies dismantle their facilities, leave the country for other countries with favorable ownership environment and less corruption.

Unless you don’t understand the meaning of “economic protectionism” the same way you did not understand the relationship of Warlordism and protectionism!

My initial premise was Protectionism could not be afford by a third world country like the Philippines. That’s the center of my discussion, you chose to participate.
You interjected that the reason we are a third world country is because of Warlordism. I told classifying world countries is not about Warlordism but based on economic development of countries divided by USA and Allies and eastern bloc. Then on your next reply you said USA is filled with Protectionism.
Why would you discuss protectionism if you’re only interested on the connection of Warlordism and third world. You should have stuck with your theory and ignored protectionism completely. Read again, hi hi hi
You are parsing your argument while my initial contention was about third world country and protectionism. You introduced Warlordism and protectionism with USA that’s why I asked you the connection of protectionism and USA with Warlordism?
3 interrelated words, protectionism, Warlordism and 3rd World became the center of our discussion after you introduced Warlordism.
BFD says

And how does one explain the voting statistics for Robredo, an essentially political newbie, who everyone knows, was carried by Aquino? She could have been “Roxas-ed” too. How do we rationalize this phenomenon? Is it the personal charisma, the power of the media? I’m not an expert political analyst but whatever the case maybe but we have to apply consistent criteria if we were to prove some hypotheses–my humble opinion.
INC vote – People think that INC chose those who they think can be persuaded (if they haven’t made a deal yet) and who can help them. It was more of a strategic move rather than protest vote. They are facing a big case and challenge and they know that their clout will be least effective with Roxas and Robredo.
There were those who boldly tagged majority of Filipinos as BOBOTANTES who seem to have considered them now as the opposite. Got to figure out where they are coming from. Not that I agree with that labelling but I am trying to figure out how the shifting happened or should we just say–hash tag#trending/flip flopping?

If anyone followed the speeches of Robredo during the campaign she barely touted the slogan “Daan Matuwid” of LP. In fact in the early campaign she contradicted Aquino and Roxas on their endorsement of one issue, I think the veto of raising SS pension.
she is her own woman. She also announced in the late stage of the campaign that the relationship between PNoy and Jesse was not “all rosy”. Google it!
chit navarro says
I beg to disagree on your “protest votes” analysis.
Thise who voted for BBM & Duterte are the results of an UNFAIR MEDIA coverage on Pres. Noy Aquino.
Pres. Noy is a very decent and laid back person that he refused to be taken into the maelstrom of unfair and dishonest media coverage, If only he would have hit back in stronger terms all the media and social media manipulations, there would have been lesser votes to BBM & Duterte.
I believe he wanted people to see and enjoy the freedom of speech that has long been suppressed in previous administration, especially during the Marcos / martial law regime. And that his SOLID ACHIEVEMENTS in infrastructure, the AFP modernization, the 4P’s program, the transparency in govt. spending, etc. would speak for his excellent governance.
Unfortunately, his media handlers spoke in technocrat / geek language that the grassroots level can hardly understand IN CONTRAST to the media handlers of BBM and Duterte. And here we are, adding insult to ininjuyr – instead of helping these achievements trickle down to the grassroots level by our explanation in simple language, we also distort the situation.
Johnny Lin says
Its the prerogative of the people what to believe in the news, true or imaginary.
It’s the duty of the media to report news during Aquino administration.
Before the election these are NATIONAL news DIRECTLY LINKING Aquino and Roxas, NOT media made:
1. Mamasapano and Purisima- Roxas was DILG Secretary- National news lasting too long till start of campaign because Aquino did not tell the truth immediately about Purisima
2. MRT and LRT trains breakdown- Aquino did not participate solving pro actively like firing out Abaya. Affected mostly METROMANILA and NCR voters
3. Manila traffic- mess that Aquino ignored without personal intervention, assigned Almendras to solve. Affected workers from A-E groups in MetroManila
4. Tanim Bala- Palace even denied publicly its significance internationally, affected OFW mostly who voted for Duterte/Marcos
5. Veto of “SS pension raise”by Aquino supported by Roxas right after announcing Roxas is LP candidate for president affecting votes from retirees/senior citizens.
Who will deny the truthfulness of these 5 episodes?
As I said, Aquino legacy will be defined by his election period performance and result rather than by his overall accomplishments.

Performance of Duterte will be forever linked to Aquino.
History will always make a footnote that Duterte was elected contrary to Aquino
and if Duterte will continue anti corruption drive and jail corrupt officials footnote would be Aquino started anti corruption effort similar to current PPPP which all presidential candidates say they will continue Aquino’s 4P but in fact GMA initiated it. Legacy is elusive to facts but more connected to striking events; in case of Aquino the election of the Punisher Duterte.

Comfort room problem looms during the 17th congress
Geraldine Roman, 49, the first transgender politician to be elected as congresswoman from the 1st district of Bataan. She underwent sex reassignment in New York at age 26 from a “he” to a “she,” married a Spanish citizen in Spain where same-sex marriage is recognized.
When the new congress starts on July 1st, what comfort room will she enter if nature calls?
In the US, Pres. Obama told schools across America on Friday, May 13, that they must let transgender students use the comfort room/bathroom of their choice, a move that triggered an immediate backlash from conservatives who perceive it as a threat to children’s well-being.
Will geraldine’s female colleagues in congress allow her to share the privacy of the comfort room knowing that she was formerly a man?

I believe in each person’s right and equality. If Ms. Roman had undergone a sex change, I think she has also the right for the use of the women’s washroom. Some laws were created for us to be divisive but caring and understanding for another is very much forgotten.
At least, the use of two washrooms for men and women is still implemented in the country. I hope the changes that’s about to happen would not include the use of only one for both sexes that is now implemented in some business establishment and in Target stores in the U.S.
But it doesn’t mean that we’ll be lax in letting our kids go alone in the washrooms. We always watch them , like when they were a baby where they are only safe inside their own bedrooms.
With kids, we can’t let our guards down because we are busy and confident nothing will happen.
I have different attitude with those who are pedophile and enjoys hurting and exposing themselves to children. In fact they should be castrated mechanically /medically to destroy their weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and or lose their libido by the use of chemicals. But some psychopathic behavior can’t be separated from the man, then I don’t think he can still be rehabilitated.
