Scary exchanges:
“Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Friday denied he was involved in plans to hatch a coup d’etat against presumptive President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, saying there are legal ways to unseat a duly elected chief executive
“Trillanes, who had led two failed uprisings against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, was reacting to statements from Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison that the “Trillanes gang” had declared war on Duterte
“Let me categorically state that I am not part of or even planning any coup d’etat. Presumptive President-elect Duterte was duly elected by the people and the proper way of removing him from office, in case he violates the Constitution, is through impeachment,” Trillanes said in a statement
“But if members of the military would revolt against the Duterte government, he said he would not wonder why.
“In the unlikely scenario that there would be a coup by disgruntled members of the AFP/PNP in the future, it would only be because they couldn’t stand the sight of Joma Sison and his communist buddies being part of a coalition government after remorselessly killing tens of thousands soldiers, policemen and innocent civilians in pursuit of their universally discredited ideology.” he said.

even a 5 year old kid knows that mr 75% duterte is asking for coup. the way duterte is going on appointing undesirables left, right, and center, some of his appointees cannot even pass police clearance, let alone nbi clearance. presumably, joma has no biometric, not registered voter and should not be part of our government.
it’s alarming giving joma and fellow commies access to the masses mainly via social welfare and agrarian reforms. that’s what communists always do: access the masses and indoctrinate them with communist manifesto where children eventually end up spying on their parents, friends and relatives.

I AGREE with everybody here , VILLAR is not qualified to head the DPWH..With conflict of interest on their family corporations and ZERO experience to manage DPWH ..Duterte must change Villar for that post…
We have also to watch out CUSI — He might not be also the more Qualified for Energy head..
Panelo should also be out from yhe would be cabinet of DUTERTE..conflict of interest and with due respect to the families of the victims on that Maguindanao massacre , Panelo should not accept auch appointment also.

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I flew from Manila to the US to attend grad school in December of 1974, acquired US citizenship in 1981, and have lived in the US since then. As Marcos imposed martial law in September of 1972, my first-hand experience of living under martial law spanned a brief 2 years and 2 months.
After the initial shock of the martial law declaration wore off, I had high hopes that the new structure and discipline would result in peace, prosperity, and security for the Philippines. Working as a sales engineer, the only negative impact of martial law I experienced was that it curtailed my business dinners and nights out as I had to make sure I was home by 12 midnight.
Many years later, I started reading books about the Marcos years before, during and after martial law. I was shocked to learn about the atrocities committed by the police and the military, the plundering of funds by both husband and wife, and the extent of Imelda’s wasteful extravagance.
I therefore approached Myles Garcia’s book with a curiosity to find out if Myles offered a new perspective on the Marcos-era years. The book did not disappoint me. The night I started the 183-page book, I stayed up to 2:00 am to finish the book in one sitting.
The book does an excellent job of organizing the information in an easy-to-follow manner. Even though the topic is “deadly” serious, Myles’ writing style is light and entertaining. It does not follow the heavy and ponderous tone so typical of the other books of this genre.
In my case, it fills in my personal knowledge gaps of Philippine events. For example, the book unabashedly identifies three pre-martial law cronies (called X, Y, & Z). I did not realize that Mr. Z was also involved in the Benguet-Bahamas deal. Another example I found both amusing and embarrassing is the story behind the upside-down tiara that Imelda wore for the 1971 Persepolis bash. There are many more of these gems in the book.
For Filipinos and for people with Filipino friends, the book will bring more substance and depth to your political discussions during your backyard barbeques and dinners.
For the history buff, it is a powerful reminder to all rational and righteous people that we should never let it happen again. It is particularly relevant to Filipinos who are voting in the Philippine elections in May 2016.
“Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.” Quote from George Santayana, Spanish philosopher and poet.
I highly recommend the book!

I think, the book is outdated. the heirs of primitivo mijares ought to publish a revision, a newer version of the book where names of characters are spelled out, hwag lang yong panay initials, so many initials, unverifiable.
people these days are not the same people in primitivo’s time. they need to search the names, get to know more about them, their faces and how they look, they want to know the person, not their initials, and all they have to go on is damn initials, always initials. I would not be surprised if readers end up ignoring the ebook, or burning the hard copy in frustration.
cheers, baycas.

I thought the book Marcos Martial Law Never Again would be a quick read. But when I got my hands on it, I found out it was a painful and difficult task – like having to identify a loved one in the morgue.
But as Filipinos, I believe it is our duty to read it – for us to know what happened, remember what happened and to do something about it.
MMLNA is not just about Marcos. It is also our people’s cry for justice that we had not really gotten yet. But like the freedom and democracy we fought for, justice will not be handed us on a silver platter but that we also have to fight for it. We should be pursuing justice above all not money.
This book made me remember and wonder what happened to Stephen Salcedo. He may have been the last person to suffer an untimely death in the dying paroxysm of the fallen Marcos regime where his only fault was to be in the wrong place at the wrong time wearing the wrong colored shirt. I hope his killers were also brought to justice.
Thank you Ms. Raissa for this important well written book – and for making it very affordable to many people.
I was thinking of who to give the book to after I read it and maybe I think I will give it to a group connected with Baclaran Church.

‘Go! Kill now and ask questions later.’ Is this country going into this stage under the new Administration? I hope it won’t.
What about ‘Marcos’ Martial Law Never Again’? ‘Go! Take him/her in! Never again to be seen.’
What’s the difference from the other new stage? Or the ‘Pay-Per-Hit’?
Will the ‘rule of law’ a civilized doctrine by civilized people be discarded? Where are we heading into?
When a person is killed was the person meted out with justice ahead of the rule of law? Dead na!
Coming soon – ‘Rule of Death Law’?

show me the money! to be taken seriously, tommy osmenya ought to show the bank account there the pay-per-hit money is kept, ready to be dispensed at a moment’s notice. that there is fund talaga set aside solely for the purpose. also, there must be city ordinance absolving the kapulisan for killing a human being, exempting them from court case in case the families of the crims become agrabyado.. without these two elements, I say, tommy osmenya is nagmamayabang at nakipagtaasan ng ihi with duterte.

“Coming home? Joma wants release of political prisoners, ceasefire first.” According to NDF chairperson Luis Jalandoni, there are 543 political prisoners at present, 88 of them sick and elderly, 18 of them NDF peace consultants, and 3 sentenced to life imprisonment. Among those in prison are alleged CCP chief Benito Tiamzon and wife Wilma who were arrested in March 2014 in Cebu over standing warrants of arrest for crimes against humanity, including murder, multiple murder, and frustrated murder charges. The CCP maintained these are trump up charges. http://bit.ly/1TrkrCF
Duterte offered 4 sensitive departments to the communists – DAR, DENR, DSWD & DOLE and unnamed juicy position to Joma, possibly executive secretary.
Du30 was voted overwhelmingly on his promise of eradicating illegal drugs, crimes within 6 months. He never mentioned that his government will be composed substantially of communists.
We can only pray and hope that his left-leaning cabinet and former NPAs will not imitate the ferocious Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot who came to power in Cambodia from 1975-79 and enforced its social engineering policies like land reform that led to widespread famine due to execution of millions of landlords, merchants, intelligentsia popularly known as the Killing Fields. frankly, i am anticipating a hair-raising & horrible scenario if and when joma is accommodated for a sensitive and a high position in duterte’s administration together with his comrades for the 4 cabinet positions
.
the risk is just to much to handle for a country who have started to bounce back from economic sabotage and failure.
BPOs, & IT Investments have already flourished and the stock market is alive & kicking. the country is indeed on the right track to be well again.
and 48 days from this posting we will be confronted by a lot of uncertainties when duterte assumes office. uncertainties of how he runs the country economically and peacefully.
i commend his vision to unite the country…indeed a noble task but it’s just as gigantic and risky act to do without a credible and doable economic program to follow. God bless our country!
running the whole country is not just a simple abc or a do, re, mi…..he maybe idolized as “the punisher” or whatever for the lawless and bad elements but doing this requires calculation and thorough planning along with his trusted and competent associates.
if he thinks he can entice the left by accommodating them to be part of the “decision makers” of the country without collateral guarantee then he is in serious trouble. i mean the country is in a very serious trouble.
my associations with my leftist friends during the 1st quarter storm would tell me that joma will not settle for something inadequate. he left our country in a self-style exile because he is a coward. by nature he loves to be called the che guevara of cuba and the brain of philippine-marxist-maoist revolution. but he failed and fled.
ninoy aquino fled but he came back to die with honor….that’s the real revolution! now duterte wants joma to sit and sing him lullabys? God bless the Philippines.
moonie says
about joma, he has been out of the country so long, his philippine passport must be expired, he would have to travel using dutch passport.
I’m not even sure joma voted last election, and for him to have a bigger say now goes against my grain.

akoy naguguluhan…kung RP got into the number one spot as having asia’s strongest economy without the government sharing power with communists ano ang relevance ng power sharing ni duterte with the communists sa ikauunlad ng Pinas, di bat spent force na ang NPA bakit pilit pinalalakas at bibigyan pa ng power, hindi naman talo ang gobyerno vs NPA. Bakit naging priority ang power sharing with the NPA?At bakit parang nagmamadali makipagdeal sa Russia at china ang duterte government? Positioning ba to for what will happen soon? ala North Korea?

sabi ni johnny lin, the people got the government they deserved.
we’ll brace ourselves then for the coming political upheaval courtesy of the mr 75 per cent pandemic from davao. he’s nepotistic and inviting all his communists friends back, come one, come all. they’ll have free run of the country, free access to our natural resources, and free to impose communist manifesto.

Tempest brewing in Davao enclave!
Sonny Dominguez rejected Finance Secretary appointment! Tugade did not yet announce acceptance of DOTC Sec. Only Mark Villar of DPWH, Pinol of Agriculture, Yasay of DFA and Domingo of Pagcor announced acceptance of appointments.
Little birdie tweeted that satisfaction with the appointments composed mostly of traditional politicians, old GMA guards and barters with different political parties for control of Congress did not suit well with his erstwhile advisers. Most were displeased with the presence of a losing governor with graft case talking to Duterte for a job. Appearance seemed contrary to the announcement of the transition party to present a clean image of Duterte.

having mark villar in dwph, it will be like his father’s c5again. only this time, developer mark villar will be in much better position to authorize building of sealed roads in his private estates and subdivisions, the bill charged to the rep of the philippines.
mark villar is elected official having just won a seat in las pinyas at last election, but got a better offer from duterte and immediately turn his back on the people that voted him in. naturally, the people felt aggrieved. duplicitous pala itong si mark villar, promised to do good by them but jumped when a better offer comes along. now, his district may have to hold another election.
duterte is partly to blame, he seems to be in a habit of just offering jobs without checking people’s suitability and prior commitments.

In the course of road construction, it is unavoidable that some concrete deliveries gets rejected by site engineer due to large number of reasons – the mix at times appear to have too much water, short of cement, or simply did not come on time. Ano ba naman yung idivert yung rejected delivery from road construction to private subdivision for a few quid instead of bringing back the mix to the concrete plant. Kahit anong window dressing ang gawin nila kay villar, hindi nun maaalis ang obvious conflict of interest na dala dala niya pag upo nya sa gabinete.

Mark Villar might return to his congressional seat claiming to have listened to the sentiments of constituents.
Panelo is a little stubborn, wants to influence freedom of GMA first and foremost discussed privately during her last birthday celebration at La Vista. Last trip of FG to Hongkong was to withdraw the finances for Duterte campaign. Current trip to Eurooe was for the final payment of the promised funds under control by “spokesperson”. DOJ or SolGen would have been the right cabinet post but too obvious if GMA is released immediately.
Partnership of Alvarez and Cusi reformatted in Duterte rule; remember their partnership at NAIAA3 and airport management. Corruption at Energy redux. Cusi’s Energy dept controlling Oil and outsourcing alternative minerals for energy source or components coupled with right legislation controlled by Alvarez as speaker. No PDAF for Congressmen but logistics from oil and minerals are endless. Oil is at its lowest price, no where to go but up. Malampaya will sound like Maligaya to Congress members. Minerals are needed for alternative energy other than oil and coal.

let me reiterate a CPMer’s suggestion here not so long ago, forgive my almost gone memory, about bringing this book to the mainstream before the marcoses will buy this edition and burn it.
with this book i’m sure the naive filipino especially the youths will be enlightened about the atrocities the marcoses & their cronies (cojuancos, tatads, romualdezes, ect) did during martial law.
frankly, people of this generation and the coming gens are no longer interested in this part of history. some perhaps are still sentimental about it but mostly just forget and don’t care about it anymore. what more with the coming generations?
and the callous marcoses just took advantage of these “uncaring” generations to pursue their dreams to once again inhabit malacanang. and this really inspires them a lot….the results of the just concluded elections are so encouraging so to speak.
and before we know it…bbm will be the next phil pres in 2022.
