President Duterte directed his “son of a whore” expletive at Obama, not at anybody else

Analysis by Raïssa Robles

just-for-the-record-thumbPresident Rodrigo Duterte is now trying to blame the press for his troublesome mouth, which gained him worldwide notoriety a few days ago.

After calling President Barack Obama the “son of a whore”, which his aides claimed he had apologized for, (an apology which didn’t alter Obama’s decision to cancel a personal meeting with the Philippine president) Duterte seems to have decided it’s all the journalists’ fault.

He accuses media of “misquoting” him and “spinning” what he said during that fateful press conference in Davao International Airport prior to his departure for Laos.

UPDATE as of 8:17 PM, Sept. 9, 2016: To those who are saying that I’m mistranslating putangina in another language and giving it more meaning than it deserves, let me say this. The Philippine is a macho society. Many men like saying putangina and they think it’s cool. It’s actually a highly abusive word. Whenever you say putangina to someone, you are cursing that person’s mother.

I have a challenge for those who say I’m mistranslating the word. Just walk down the street and say the word putangina to the first man you happen to meet going the opposite direction. See what he will do.

Duterte told Filipinos he met in Jakarta today that during his brief meeting with Obama in Vientiane, he told the US president – ‘President Obama, I’m President Duterte. I’ve never made that statement. You can check it out. Check it out.’

Duterte explained to the Filipinos in Jakarta, “I never made any reference to Obama. You can review the tapes. I did not say [son of a whore to Obama]. I did say [son of a whore] but not in relation to Obama. I said, ‘Do not disrespect me. Son of a whore, we will be wallowing in the mud like pigs if you do that.’ That’s what I said.”

To back up his claim,  Duterte even told the crowd that TV5 News Anchor Ed Lingao had apologized for getting this story wrong.

The only problem is Ed Lingao did no such thing.

Lingao said on a Facebook post yesterday that he had apologized for a story that was based on an ambush interview in Laos and NOT for his reportage of that fateful Davao airport presser.

“That, we reported correctly,” Lingao said.

Before the public blames media for all these, I’d like everyone to look at a portion of the official transcript of Duterte’s Davao press conference. This extract was the only time he said the word “putangina”, when he was asked how he would react if Obama raised with him the matter of extrajudicial killings.

Duterte was mistaken. He did not say “putangina” when he mentioned the word “magkababuyan” or what he referred to as “wallow in the mud like pigs”:

Magka–gusto mo, yeah the right word, magkababuyan tayo doon ‘pag ginawa mo sa akin ‘yan. I do not accept that proposition that anybody is superior than me. We are supposed to be equal there. My country might be small, hardly keeping up with the economic problems but I will not allow myself—iinsultuhin mo, iinsultuhin mo ‘yung Pilipino. But there are others whose mental—who has the mental capacity of dogs who laugh at the ass of the Americans.

The only time Duterte said “putangina” was when he said:

Putang-ina, mumurahin kita diyan sa forum na ‘yan. Huwag mo akong ganunin.

The literal translation of this is:

“Son of a whore, I will swear at you in that forum. Don’t do that to me.”

If Duterte was talking about columnists, the sentence doesn’t make sense. Why would he and the columnists be in the same forum?

If Duterte was cursing the columnists – which is plural – he would have used a plural pronoun like “kayo“.

But notice that he used the singular pronoun – “kita“:

Putang-ina, mumurahin kita diyan sa forum na ‘yan. Don’t do that to me.”

“Kita” or “You” obviously referred to the person whom Duterte called “son of a whore”, which is singular. And the only singular person he was talking about at that time was Obama.

Besides, why would Duterte tell columnists – “Don’t do that to me” – when he feels far more superior than they. He’d simply tell them to get lost.

So I think, it’s Duterte who is spinning madly, trying to get out of a hole of his own making.

Below is the pertinent text:

PRES. DUTERTE: Extrajudicial killings?

Q: Yes, human rights.

PRES. DUTERTE: To whom shall I address myself to? And who will be asking the question may I know?

Q: Obama sir.

PRES. DUTERTE: You know, the Philippines is not a vassal state. We have long ceased to be a colony of the United States. Alam mo, marami diyan, sa mga kolumnista, they look upon Obama and the United States as if we are the lap dogs of this country. I do not respond to anybody but to the people of the Republic of the Philippines. Wala akong pakialam sa kaniya. Who is he? When as a matter of a fact, at the turn of the century, before the Americans left the Philippines in the pacification campaign of the Moro in this island, there were about six million ang population ng Moro. How many died? Six hundred. If he can answer that question and give the apology, I will answer him.

I am not beholden to anybody. Iyong mga kolumnista diyan na ‘wait until he meets,’ who is he? I am a President of a sovereign state, and we have long ceased to be a colony. I do not have any master, except the Filipino people, nobody but nobody…

You must be respectful. Do not just throw questions and statements. Putang-ina, mumurahin kita diyan sa forum na ‘yan. Huwag mo akong ganunin. Tell that to everybody. Itong mga kolumnista, para ba akong tinatakot, anak ka ng — umalis kayo diyan sa Pilipinas, pumunta kayo doon sa Amerika. You write kung ano nasa isip — the lap dogs of this American. Who is he (Obama) to confront me? As a matter of fact, he has too many — America has one too many to answer for the misdeeds in this country. Hanggang ngayon hindi pa tayo nakatikim ng apology niyan. That is the reason why Mindanao continues to boil.

Who deserved to be “putang ina’d”?

Is it Obama who wants respect for Philippines territorial sovereignty or China President whose policies actually grabbed several of our islands and disrespected our sovereignty?

Do we still own the Philippines or we dont?
Du30’s reaction is just like any Chinese bureaucrat upon meeting Obama-{“ginugulo mo kami umalis ka dito”}.

Mukhang nalihis na naman ni DU30 ang usapan.

Is he really filipino o chinese?.

” Clever these chinese, stupid these old men” .

        Yeah you’re right!.

It is to Chinese advantage that US stay out of the Philippines that’s why we have a President who has to be fiercely anti american, and that the Philippine population be in a state of disarray with all these killings so the land grabbing to accommodate their bases will not meet much resistance.

It isnt madness after all, there is sanity to all these.

Ms. Raissa, and or, people involved with CARMMA and everyone who are against the burial of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani. The recent action of Duterte has given us an opening. In the midst of different Heads of State including Ban Ki-moon and President Obama, Duterte showed them pictures of Filipinos he claimed were victims of Human Rights abuses during the time of American Occupation. This Duterte is a true statesman. Now I suggest we also send Duterte images and pictures of all victims of Martial Law during the time of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Better yet, let us also send Duterte the names and pictures of the victims of the Jabidah Massacre which was the inspiration in the formation of the MNLF and MILF. In reality, Duterte’s idol, Ferdinand Marcos Sr. contributed a lot in the destabilization of Mindanao. What should be good for the goose should also be good for the gander.

Do Dirty told the journalist daw not to hesitate to criticize him if he makes mistakes

Malaki na siya and .. he knows what is right and wrong ..baka later sasabihin YOU SOB who are you?
    hehehe

    ————————————————————————————————————
MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday urged journalists to criticize him if he is doing something wrong in his job.
Duterte issued the statement during a press conference after he arrived in Davao City from his state visit in Indonesia.
“Do not hesitate to attack me, criticize me, if I do wrong in my job,” Duterte told reporters, after being asked if he is angry at journalists.
“I am not at liberty to be angry at anybody. It is your sworn duty to ask questions. It is also my obligation to my people for the money spent in this trip and for all the things that cost the Filipino, I have to make an official report. Wala akong galit sa inyo,” he said.
He reminded members of the media of the important role they play in society.
“Every time you press that button in your camera, you record history of this country kaya importante kayo (that’s why you are important),” the president said.

Duterte earlier hit media “spin doctors” during a speech before the Filipino community in Indonesia. He cautioned Filipinos to “watch out” because the media can supposedly make people appear worse than they really are.

Duterte accused the media of “spinning stories several times over,” or allegedly leaving out relevant facts and telling lies to crucify him.

Mother/Saint Teresa, Nelson Mandela, and Rodrigo Duterte were all at the gate of heaven.

God asked Mother Teresa, ‘why should you be allowed to enter’.
She replied, ‘i have served you by dedicating my life to helping the poor’.
God replied, ‘indeed you have. Please come and take a seat on my right’.

God then asked the same question to Nelson Mandela, who said, ‘my life has been devoted to the betterment of my countrymen, and for equality, but i want no reward for simply doing my duty’.
God asked Mandela to take a seat on his left.

God then asked Rodrigo Duterte why he should be allowed to enter.
‘F#ck that’ said Duterte, ‘and get out of my chair, you son of a bitch!’.
God replied, ‘to Hell with you, and for you’

Besides, if it’s not for Obama why it took couple of days before they said that it’s for the media people? It’s a human instinct to defend yourself right away when you are accused of something you didn’t do. And why did he asked for apology and regret if it’s not for Obama? And why did Alan Cayetano send an open letter to Obama explaining why it happened and asking for another chance?

27% of barangays “drug affected”, and not, 98% of barangays “drug infected”. A huge difference.

“According to the 2015 Annual Report of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), 11,321 out of 42,036 barangays (26.93 percent) were drug-affected.
A barangay is said to be drug-affected, according to former PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. in a report dated February 18, 2015, “when there is a determined
existence of a drug user, pusher, manufacturer, marijuana cultivator or other drug personality regardless of number in the area.”

I hate drugs, but i also hate being lied to by fools and political pariahs, who are intellectual pygmies and life’s non-achievers. Duterte et al are proving themselves to be clueless, witless, and useless, at every opportunity. Consumed by the past, these are yesterday’s men.
A boorish provincial bully way out of his depth, and a banal cabal of old age pensioners and sycophants. From a 3rd rate mayor to a 5star cock up merchant. From mediocrity to inferiority. The Peter Principle in practice.

It takes a village to raise a child, and it takes 16 million idiots to elect one of their own.

Sad that there is no debate/focus upon poverty, malnutrition, job generation, educational standards, innovation, smuggling, tax evaders, etc. Subjects which are clearly beyond the limited intellect, and interests, of duterte who only has one obsession – ‘kill’, ‘destroy’.

    LUCK

on my first week in the US in research, my mentor imparted this lesson.
“if you cross a busy intersection recklessly a thousand times escaping without a scratch, odds become greater your luck is gonna run out every second. On the other hand if anything you task is planned and thought of carefully, you don’t need luck to succeed”. Professional gamblers observe the same discipline profitably more with luck on their side.

How does this principle affect Du30? They say that swearing is his habit as mayor, scaring people in Davao city. He always got away with his attitude in that isolated pathway. Now that he is president, he is acting the same way. Unfortunately, being a country leader in this wide world is similar to a busy intersection. Eventually, he will be derailed.

Snub by Obama on Duterte is similar to breaking a leg when sideswiped by a vehicle. Will Du30 wait to be run over Fatally before changing his poor diplomatic behavior? Probably, he will not mend his ways because his Apologists are embellishing his bad attitude with Black Propaganda aimed at poor FILIPINOS.
    “Subservient dogs blind the master”

Duterte mode has been – Attack and Deny! He is actually telling the entire Filipino nations that Davaouenos are geographically dumb for tolerating him for decades.

“Narcissists fear rejection, want attention, crave affection, need adoration, and dream of perfection”

Narcissism is not all bad, but in context, in degrees, and in balance.
The creative narcissist can achieve great things, when driven by positivity and ability, such as steve jobs. It is the destructive twin who is a very different animal. Out of balance, and invariably out of control, particularly when out of his carefully constructed comfort zone.

They employ standard techniques of manipulation, primarily to instil fear through anger outbursts, and being unpredictable to keep you ‘off-balance’/on edge, especially when questioned, doubted, or criticised.
    – Blameshifting
    – Verbal bullying
    – Intimidation/threats
    – Gaslighting – shout, swear, make others feel fearful
    – Subservience – demands loyalty
    – Humiliate
    – Belittle
    – Feign superiority
    – hyperbole & exaggeration
    – outright denial. Lie & deny.

They always abuse power and they always want to inflict pain – physical, emotional, psychological.
Sadism is the outward representation of their inner anger.
Other peoples suffering is the life-blood of the narcissist as it self-validates his perceived power and omnipotence.
They choose weak and easy targets ( especially women, as they have a need to be seen as macho) – the narcissist is a coward at heart.

Things the narcissist hates to an extreme and which can trigger violent responses:
    Abandonment or rejection
    Being made fun of
    Being disrespected
    Being ignored
    Being confronted with the truth
    Logic and intellect
Loss of youth and trappings of power/status
Individuality and independence – the narcissist wants control through conformity. Collectivity through subservience.
Being exposed – their biggest fear

His self-delusional idealisation is akin to a religious leader, but with no belief except himself, a utopia of his own making, a messiah to rid the world of what he dislikes. A rockstar! A philosopher king!
The truth is always the opposite of what he sees in his own mirror.
The truth is an obnoxious nasty and angry individual who only serves his own interests and damaged ego whilst displaying the height of hypocricy. Deceit is a part of his being, and he will paint black as white when it suits his motives.
He protects his fragile ego at all costs. When he says he does not care what others think, he really means precisely the opposite. He cares that much that he will even make a point of saying that he does not care!

Before he spoke 1, he is talking about him and POTUS being of equal footings, that he cannot just lecture him on human rights on the EJK. This makes it strong that it is addressed to Obama.
He asked that Obama must be respectful but then he swore that he will cuss him in that forum. Talking about respect!

senile na kasi si digong. and he has highly paid flatterers working for him, sina misinformation chief andanar, yasay who makes things perfect as his name perfecto implied, cayetano whose main job is to divert the truth and make digong’s lies into quasi truths. much resources focused on one man, while the country stews, its people being killed, and its economy being drained. thanks the lord, the previous admin nag-iwan ng surplus na pera, but that wont last long.

less talk pls and more of governing the nation, and less post mortem-ing his stupidity. it cannot make him a wiser man and a better person. only served to highlight his mistakes and shortcomings.

so what did we gain from asean meeting? have we made any concessions?

digong spend so much time bolstering his sagging reputation, whitewashing his damaged image, while his entourage busied themselves propping up a fallen idol, so much of thier time spent on useless and lesser pursuits. what happened to good governance? can’t govern themselves, eh?

it’s high time for digong and his gabinete of fools to take a u-turn and be trusted public service officials for once.

and if the palace make it their job to continue on making excuses for digong’s multitude gaffes, palace ought to know now that excuses and saving graces have to be done soonest, not few days later. doing so would only make it an after thought, ipso facto. the horse has already gone and bolted. if horsy is to be contained, containment must be done while horsy is still within whipping distance, not miles and miles galloping away already.

and by now, place should be already shock proof with ready made excuses on file, to be resurrected and applied the moment digong makes fool of himself, again.

else, cayetano, andanar and yasay can put their heads together, treasoned and bumped off digong, save the country from more digong-related-disasters, and save themselves further humiliation too. jokeeeeee! he, he, he.

True. Pang mayor lang si Duterte. He is not fitted to be president. Dapat Duterte RESIGN. Puro yabang lang, pero walang talino. Yong pagkukulang nya sa kaalaman dinadaan na lang sa mura para hindi sya matanong. Kung baga sa strategy — unahan lang.

maybe not unahan lang, sorry, po, dahil tinatanong-tanong din siya, maybe not right away, pero may mga tanong. kaso, may stunned silence muna dahil hindi kapani-paniwala na ang presidente mismo ay walang manners when a president is supposed to be paragon of virtue and best diplomat in the country.

on hearing digong’s foul language, people needed to double take, scratched their ears to ensure there was no interfering earwax, that they really did hear something and not just imagining things.

if that was digong’s strats to stun people so they lay off him, I say, it was very poor strat. instead of laying off him, people pursued him and ask more questions, more clarifications, more emphasis. and in the end, digong ends up shooting his own foot, sometimes shoving his own foot in his mouth.

True @Moonie, I believe you. Talagang walang kwenta itong presidente natin. Hindi kapaniniwala ang mga sinasabi at wala sa ayos. Tapos pag na-corner laging media ang sinisisi.
