But I’m sure you haven’t forgotten.

You just don’t want the generations born after Ferdinand Marcos’ 1989 death to know that once upon a time, you told the New York Times reporter and other journalists that not only you, but also your father, knew about the human rights abuses then going on.

But you said it was hard for your dad to stop the abuses because you added, ”It is not easy to fire all these people.”

You said you also knew there were political detainees. In fact, you said you tried to help some of them.

And you called Malacañang Palace a “snake pit”.

Before I show proof of what I’m saying, let’s recall what you said last week on national TV (ANC) about the human rights abuses during your dad’s dictatorship, whose remains you want to bury inside the Heroes’ Cemetery.

Your exact words were:

“‘Yung admission of guilt, unang-una ang liit-liit ko noon. Paano ko ia-admit hindi ko naman alam.”
(“The admission of guilt, in the first place, I was too young to know. How can I admit when I didn’t even know about it.”)

One newspaper, which picked up what you said, accompanied the story with a photo of you looking like a grade-schooler.

That photo is wrong.

The photo below shows more accurately your age at that time.

You also called the human rights abuses committed by your father’s regime “unintentional” and “not (government) policy”. I will show this is not true in a separate piece to follow, using the case of Archimedes Trajano – the student your bodyguards killed intentionally.

Meanwhile, let me show you first the proof that you knew all about the torture happening then.

Below is a screenshot of a New York Times article quoting you by name after an interview. It describes you as a 29-year-old.

When you told American reporters that “My father is aware of abuses  committed by some of his people, but it is not so easy to fire all these people.”

You seemed to know who they are. Do tell us who they are. Did “some” refer to then Philippine Constabulary Chief Fidel V. Ramos, your uncle? And to then Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile?

It’s time to tell all that you know.

  4. I remember seeing Imee Marcos guesting at Kulit Bulilit tv show in RPN 9. She was then the producer of the show and she was wearing a Kabataang Barangay shirt. She was already an adult at that time. Kabataang Barangay was founded by Imee. I noticed then their fascination with anything that has an acronym that starts with KB ie. Kabataang Barangay, Kulit Bulilit, Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, etc. They also attribute their wealth from a Kayamanang Binaon. Duterte’s order for the burial of FM in LNMB was due to a Kampanyang Binayaran. And once FM settles at the LNMB, he will be known as the Kahindik-hindik na Bayani.

    The key words here are: “she admitted to having acted on her own authority…”

    This case was about the torture and murder of student Archimedes Trajano, a staunch critic of Imee Marcos-Manotoc and of the Marcos dictatorship.

  6. We can’t expect any Marcoses to tell the world the truth that they are guilty of martial law crimes. They are who they are, thieves, killers, demonyong nagkatawang tao.

    The fault is to Filipinos who believe that they are innocent and to those who voted and will continue to vote for them, their associates and dumb followers like Digong. The fault also lies to those who do nothing knowing the truth. Pag may nagpapauto, may manguuto, pag may nagpapaloko, may manloloko.
    Filipinos should study and use history in choosing the leaders we’ll have.

    • The problem is that the newer generation of voters have NO IDEA about what really transpired during the Marcos regime. It’s a big oversight that history books in school focus more on the Spanish era rather than on the more recent events.

      There is barely any mention or discussion about the Marcos regime in school history books.

        • I shared the same moment and painful hours when Ive heard this news same as my workmates here abroad! we are almost 500 nurses working in this hospital. It was like a traumatic day for each and every filipinos over here. We simply were staring on blank walls, shocked and helpless..we thought back of the countless tortured, the harrassed, the killed student leaders and professors and writers and media people to name a few thousands, extremely stunning and so sad! This daughter IMEE and her family wouldnt understand a bit, even a bit of the Sufferings and Anguish and FEAR endured till the last hour, the martial law victims as theyve been cradled in golden spoon and milky bath each day.

          There is a certain limitation as to when a son or a daughter or a wife will judge a father so biased as theirs then to a complete Denial.       Check these names: Lily Hilao, Dr. Juan Escandor, Butch Dalisay, Pete Lacaba. AFAIK, none of those Martial Law victims committed any crime—much more joined any activist or armed movement.

      For a recent example of a country allowing its citizens to protest, read what’s happening in South Korea.

    • Ines was at Princeton college when I was in nursing school, I am already 59!years old. I am a nurse, I know her father does not have asthma only. I cannot understand why the people have them back in power again when we all sufferred economically in his regime. They were having a lavish lifestyle while the country was in poverty.

      • in those days, to the hungry and the impoverished, imelda used to give them her glossy and signed photograph, smiling in her expensive terno complete with dazzling jewels. looking at her pic and admiring her clothes and jewels was supposed to alleviate the suffering of the people, made them forget hunger and their sad lot in life. kaso, it did not take long for people to realize her glossy pic did little to appease a growling stomach.

        in those days too, the marcoses were front pagers, parties here and there, imelda dazzling in her designer gowns, invited guests similarly attired. the populace can only watched in horror, their livelihood gone, their freedoms eroded, their safety compromised and their children gone missing.

        lines were drawn, and no one wants to be reminded of the hardships makoy’s martial law brought about. and burying makoy sa libingan under the full glare of the sun, in the full view of the nation, only serves to awaken the hurt and suffering of the down and trodden. only this time, they wont be quiet, despite what supreme court says.

      • if last will regarding burial gets probated, it will be all about makoy and will center around him. imelda cannot accept that. this is not about marcos and what he wanted, this is now about imelda and what she wanted. makoy is just a prop now, her trophy, to do as she likes, to be displayed as she likes.

        makoy’s will does not matter anymore, imelda has thrashed it. and imee bilang imelda marcos junior, is siding with the mother. this must be their revenge for the humiliation they have both suffered while makoy was alive, the beauties marcos paraded around and bedded as well, time and again, all more beautiful than both imee and imelda. the time marcos spent on his mistresses was time not spent with his own family.

        imee and imelda just have to bear and grin and be accepting of marcos extracurricular activities, no choice sila. else they lost influence and all that riches.

        the monies and trusts makoy opened for his mistresses, imee and imelda could not overturn them dahil marcos was no fool, the trusts were set in concrete and out of the bounds of the mag-ina. wala silang habol, but makoy’s will may habol sila. probate not done, e?

        there is will but no probate done. suits imelda and imee just fine.

        makoy’s mistake is leaving his will with imelda instead of leaving it with someone more trusted, one who can act on his behalf.

  12. Imee Marcos who was born in 1955 was 17 when martial law was declared by her father. I am only 3 years older than her and l know and experienced martial law. Like me senior citizen na rin sya.

    In 1972 she was in England with Irene and Bongbong studying but came home for christmas and summer holidays (Wikipedia).

    After completing BA degree in Religion and POLITICS at Princeton University she returned to the Philippines and was appointed by her father as chairperson of the Kabataang Barangay (precursor if Sangguniang Kabataan) abd founding chair of the Kabataang Barangay Foundation (1975-1986).

    She was a protegee of the dictator father and the KB is the political arm of the youth then.

    and of course, imee blamed international monetary fund for lending money to fund overpriced projects of makoy and imelda, and interests were charged. our country has hard time paying off debts incurred, habang ang pamilya ni marcos enjoyed kickbacks. at lalong lumaki ang art collection ni imelda, ang jewels niya ay parang crown jewels ng rayna, sa ibang bansa pa nagshopping at arkila ang eroplano. at one time, imelda treated banko sentral bilang alkansiya niya, napakawaldas.

  14. Oh dear. Imee would you define or qualify your term “ang liit liit”?

    Even in 1972, the year Martial Law was declared you were not “ang liit, liit” anymore. I am much younger than you are but I very much remember. I am a Martial Law baby and so is my husband and the rest of my younger siblings. They too very much remember.

    Selective amnesia you and your family have. You know what, I could even remember when I was 4 years old I got ill with meningitis. I was at death’s door. I still remember up to this day where was I, the crying of my mother as she held me in her arms while waiting for that ride to the hospital. I knew what was going on but I could not even move or utter a word. The infection in my brain was so severe that I was totally paralyzed I feel as if I was imprisoned in my own body. I could only gaze at the people and my loved ones around me. I was so helpless and it was so frightening. It was traumatic.

    Martial Law was traumatic and more so for the thousands whose loved ones have died, have disappeared and tortured. I would not even imagine how there families imagined the harrowing and inhuman torture the dead must have undergone before they were murdered. Some don’t even have a body to bury that made forgetting, healing and closure quite impossible.

    And you have the gall to say they died of unintentional incidence? Maybe Archimedes Trajano was so frightened with guilt after the questioning incidence that he decided to commit suicide. Or Boyet Mijares was so excited riding a helicopter he accidentally stayed too close to the edge and he fell to his own death?

    Lies, denials, feigning innocence, accidents, blame gaming (even the IMF really) and maybe collateral damage. You and your family seemed to have existed in a different world.

  15. Anger and sadness filled me when I heard what Imee said on national TV. The Marcos family is truly evil incarnate! This family is excellent in reversing the history. I am sick and tired of their evil doings, then and now. To this evil family: You can bury your dictator father in the Heroes’ Cemetery but the fact still remains that in the minds and hearts of many of us, HE IS NO HERO!!! If there is really hell, for sure he has a very good place there, waiting for Meldy, Imee, Bongbong, Irene, et al. That is the perfect place for people who did and still do evil things here on Earth, and yet couldn’t admit and repent for them.
