Due to the drug smuggling mess in the Bureau of Customs
Just My Opinion by Raïssa Robles
This time of year, families with relatives working abroad await the yearly “padala” of balikbayan boxes.
The boxes are stuffed lovingly by fathers, mothers, wives and husbands, sons and daughters with lots of goodies for their loved ones back home.
But wait.
There’s a huge spoiler in the works that—if not addressed—could result in rage and frustration toward the Bureau of Customs and even President Rodrigo Duterte.
Remember the two separate smuggled shipments of nearly two tons of shabu that caused Duterte to sack all top officials of Customs and bring in the army?
Then he ordered the army chief: “Giingnan nako — si Chief of Staff sa Army, bungkaga na tanan, og di ka makuntento ihulog sa dagat aron way samok. Ingna bayran nato sila ugma. Nganong mopasubo man ta ana?”
According to CNN Philippines, Duterte said in translation: “I told the Chief of Staff of the Army to open everything and to throw it in the sea if they’re not contented just to avoid any more issues. Tell them we’ll pay them tomorrow. Why should we take that risk?”
It is, in my view, a reckless order that could put at risk your balikbayan boxes and the reputation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It gives soldiers the authority to “open everything” and you know how that goes. Unscrupulous persons could exploit this and start filching from your balikbayan boxes AND THEN BLAME THE SOLDIERS.
If your boxes aren’t torn open, their release from the ports could be much delayed due to the more stringent measures Customs now has to take.
According to former Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon, an entire shipload of containers was issued an “alert order” just before Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña was removed.
Congressman Biazon estimated that this would number around 492 containers that would now have to be opened one by one and their contents manually checked.
“If they will be forced to have all those containers inspected, it will take more than a month,” Biazon told me.
“An alert order is issued when there is derogatory information or suspected goods,” he explained. “And if you alert an entire shipload, you will have to examine all the goods one by one.”
And consider this, he said, “everyday, containers are coming in. These [containers] will pile up because you only have so many people doing the inspections, and processing, and all the paperwork for that”
“Congestion could be of nightmarish proportions,” he said. Which is why, “they have to act fast on this.”
He also said he was told of other ships coming in “with pending alert orders”. During his time, Biazon said only the official who had issued the alert order could lift the order. He heard that the issuance of alert orders was centralized during the time of Nicanor Faeldon. Only Faeldon could issue it and lift it. He doesn’t know if Lapena had changed that.
So if your balikbayan box is delayed, or have items missing or simply disappeared, you know why. If you are a Duterte supporter, just grin and bear it and tell yourself, #ChangeIsComing.

VP Leni Robredo has better and more justice thinking on former first Lady Marcos’ cases in flight. What is P150,000.00 BAIL to $200 MILLION which now is about $680 MILLION in sum to soar free above in the air and on the ground!
Remember the Hawaii court requiring bail in the CASH AMOUNT OF US$1 MILLION on her for the cases? She had to borrow that money [kuno] from a rich-friend heiress, Doris Duke.
US judges have better and more justice thinking compared to ours who believes our Ph Pesos are still now worth stealing. Our People are always ‘computed’ via US dollar to Ph Peso value for food, etc., anything to have under the sky, the moon, the stars and with the birds atbpa.
Lesson for our Trial Judges: Bail should always, in corruption cases, be computed to US dollar before arriving to Ph Peso amount. a SC Committee should recommend changing our rules on this for heaven’s sake, otherwise stealers and corrupts leaders/officials are laughing at our poor justice system and at the courts. Please DO MORE.
What bail did the former First lady get is like having been given a PAUPER’s BAIL Sa Wikang Filipino: BADOY.
leona says
The cash bail amount should be no less than Ph P20,000,000.00 computed at 10% of US $200 Million at Ph P53.00/us $, disregarding na lang the BARYA/small change.
With that, mayroon sandigan talaga ang Hukom natin sa Bayan.
PhP150,000.00 is like a ‘Recognizance’ in place – no value-amount for temp. liberty given.

uhm, methink, the day to day jewels that imelda wore cost more than bail money. the cost of her tent dress could feed families and yet bail money set is napakababa, betting po ako, binayaran kaagad yang bail without imelda breaking an almighty sweat.
the little bail bond imelda paid should only last for a few days, not months.

Sandiganbayan defers arrest of Imelda Marcos. There it is.
The secret Marcos deposits had ballooned to $680 million by the time the dictator was toppled from power in 1986.
Some lawyers have questioned why the warrant was not immediately issued. University of the Philippines law professor Theodore Te said that under the Rules of Court, “not showing up has specific consequences and one of those is that the court must order her arrest.
Flouting justice system. Sen. Panfilo Lacson derided the deferment of the issuance of a warrant against Marcos, saying it told another story of privilege flouting the justice system.
[If] it were an ordinary Juan or Juana de la Cruz without access to pricey lawyers, he or she would have been hauled to prison upon conviction and while awaiting appeal. .

anyhow, imelda is out on bail. may 7 ailments kuno, 7 ailments to correspond with the 7 grafts she is indicted with, he, he, he. 7:7.
those 7ailments are not life threatening, chonic ang mga yon, meaning long term na sakit, not acute at kaagad-agad na ikamamatay. chronic ang mga sakit niya at under control kaya up and about siya, functional and making mischief pa rin. those not in the know would think nakakatakot ang mga 7 ailments na yon. pero not really, common ailments yan ng mga matatanda. kaya dapat magretire na sila. the body is slowing down and getting ready for the final trip. for her to be running for governorship at her age is foolish. busy job yan, unless kung matutulog lang naman siya!
sa kulungan, she would have nothing to do but rest and sleep. arroyo recuperated while under house arrest at gumaling ng husto, kaya nong nakalaya, diretso kaagad sa trabaho yang si arroyo.
matagal ng alam ni imelda na may 7 ailments siya and manage her conditions quite well, going overseas on long haul flights pa nga. well medicated kasi e. the best money can buy.
incidentally sa cambodia, those sangkot sa killing fields ay matatanda na rin po, the remaining few that are still alive are serving life sentences in jail.

2) may soft tissue infirmity at may sakit sa gums, they’re receding na, exposing the lower part of the dentine and the teeth become sensitive. some fall off. replaced with false teeth.
3) too much subcutaneous fat, may fat pad sa stomach at naging posunin, and wearing tight sexy jeans is problematic. kaya, gotta wear dresses na like tent na lang, gaya ni imelda.
4) may infirmity sa organ of sight and wearing eye glasses that need updating now and then. may glaucoma, may cataract ang iba. and yet they still have to ilk a living.
5) may infirmity sa organ of hearing and wearing hearing aid. mahal yang battery sa hearing aid.
6) high blood pressure is common for many pinoys, stress sila dahil mahal masyado ang bibilhin, higher and more taxes to pay and their take home pay is hindi na sapat sa kabuhayan.
7) heart disease, unlike imelda, many pinoys cannot afford a transplant. they just have to make do with a sickly heart. and they know their limit, know what they can do and not do. and they still have to go to work, kuya kim said stroke is the best thing!

to have multiple organ infirmities is common occurence. imelda is not unique. what make her unique is that she in convicted for 7grafts, and has 7 corresponding ailments! he, he, he.

duterte is so wasteful, pinas has a wealth of legal resources and people with legal mind better than most, and yet, duterte is not tapping them, not using them to further our cause, our sovereignty defended. for sure china will only further its own cause, always its own cause, not ours. chinas has vested interest and we are being squeezed, and yet duterte cannot see it.

Just a bit of speculation why D030 left P NEW GUINEA early, maybe he felt out of place and intimidated by the presence of close allies of the US like Australia, India, Japan while he is the most obvious lapdog of China.
Interesting to know that US would build American bases in PNEW GUINEA while Do30 is dreaming of building schools in that country. His mouth is frothing with baloney and lies again.
“Tensions between the two nations are likely to deteriorate even more after the US took aim at China’s territorial ambitions. While not referring directly to Chinese claims over various disputed waters in the region, Pence said the United States would work to help protect maritime rights and said that the US seeks to establish a military base in Papua New Guinea, aka China’s back yard.
“We will continue to fly and sail where ever international law allows and our interests demand. Harassment will only strengthen our resolve.”
In a further provocation to the Trump Admin, Xi also made a veiled reference to a new grouping known as “the Quad” that aims to counter China’s influence in the Asia-Pacific. Consisting of the U.S., Japan, India and Australia, the group met in Singapore for the third time this week to discuss ways to cooperate. “Attempts to form exclusive blocs or impose one’s will on others should be rejected,” Xi said. “History has shown that confrontation, whether in the form of a cold war, a hot war or a trade war, will produce no winners.”
It looks like Do30 is digging his debtor slavery relationship with China, to hell with the consequences for the Filipino people… you are sold.

I heard the military looted marawi city po, so if they can loot marawi city, they can loot balikbayan boxes too.
the military’s relatives can then sell some of the contents of the balikbayan boxes in the market.

STEALING is an immoral big trouble IF done by military people.
Let’s hope such act DOES NOT happen because PEOPLE will create a BIGGER Christmas TROUBLE for it.
Warning: Don’t Even Think of Stealing it.
Warning: Do It At Your Risk.
LAST Warning: It Is A CRIME.

uhm, ofws na may kapamilya’t relatives sa military are mayhap lucky po; most likely they’ll receive their balikbayan boxes intact. the military will see to it.
methink po only those that have no relatives sa military will be badly affected at mamimiligro ang boxes nila.

PRRD says Burogues of Corruption cannot be stopped from corruption.
yea…’cause there is no apprehension/arrests of the rogues in that Burogues. In SHORT, it is PRRD’s policy to transfer and promote the incompetents and rogues.
Time to stop going into inconclusive conclusions.

bureau of customs, now bureau of corruptions, cannot stop corruption that we understand only too well. what boc can do is minimize corruption to the barest minimum, dapat yan ang goal.
minimize, minimize, minimize, not palosutin ang bilyones worth of illegal drugs and other shipments na would have netted customs collection humongous amount of tariff for the nation. the billions and billions that would have helped our country’s infrastructures and make us economically sufficient, and less reliant on utang sa ibang bansa, china specially.
corruption cannot be stop sa customs but by god, corruption can be minimized to the barest minimum. not palusution to the highest maximum.
it appearing tuloy that duterte’s best and brightest are best in corruption. tops.

Good thing my sister in California, who’s been religiously sending home 3 or 4 Balikbayan boxes yearly to not send anymore.
raissa says
Why not?
Marmee Cruz says
She has a hard time shopping and then worries whether the boxes will be delivered unscathed. So, I asked her not to send anymore to save her from the stress.
arc says
uhm, your sister can always send money home, right? maybe easier that way, saves her the stress and the packing and freight charges, forms to fill up and maybe insurance to pay, plus it gives the receiver back home the pleasure of doing shopping anywhere and anytime they want, bargaining and choosing and maybe with the receipts, defective goods can be returned.
those opting not to spend big on christmas but save their money for after christmas sales aba, mas makakamura sila. just tell na after christmas ang big party ninyo, relatives and friends would understand po. times are hard and getting harder and. desperate measures are needed. .
and those that gossip na barat po kayo, dont have good intention at heart.
good friends may ask questions but supportive over all. cheers po.
leona says
