At 12:38 this morning, a third year college student named Yani Jebulan was shot dead with a single bullet by a masked rider on a motorcycle. The driver was also masked.
In a country where 2,210 men, women and children have been mysteriously gunned down over the past five months, Yani Jebulan’s death seemed to be just another statistic labeled as “collateral damage” in President Rodrigo Duterte’s “war on drugs”.
The victim’s father, however, refused to let his loss become a mere DUI (death under investigation). Alfredo Jebulan, a retired police officer, swiftly wrote a letter to Duterte – a letter that minced no words and conveyed the rage and grief in his heart.
